Sox looking at Fukudome, Bay, not Rowand
CanOfCorn replied to beck72's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 09:16 AM) Well scratch Fukudome off the list...he's narrowed his list to two or three teams NOT named the White Sox And Jason bay may end up in Cleveland...The winter meetings just keep getting better and better. I wouldn't cross anyone off the list UNTIL they sign or are traded to another team. See: Torii Hunter and Angels. -
QUOTE(rockren @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 10:49 AM) HAHAHA I don't know what people see in Burke. I'd rather just keep Uribe and have him come off the bench. He's better than Uribe...he got dicked around in an Astros uniform. I have seen him play many times in AAA and he is a smart baseball player in the mold of a David Eckstein with a better arm. He's not awesome at anything, but he is above average at just about everything.

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 09:50 PM) exactly my thoughts... what a joke!! Sorry KW we've accepted your excuses last year with the whole "Market Correction" crap. But if you offer Hunter that much money and then come back and say "im not going to give you a dollar if i only have 50 cents to offer" crap, you lose a TON of credibility. What a joke this offseason is turning out to be... we might as well re-sign Erstad and sign Eckstein at this point. . I love how Kenny thinks he can do what he did in the 2004 offseason again... That 2004 team going into 2005 didn't have as many holes.. all we needed was a couple of pen guys a leadoff hitter and 1 starter. The rest of the team was pretty much filled. . The team we have now has waaaaaaaaayyy too many holes... this team is going nowhere fast.. and even JD sees that. Rowand isn't worth it and Jones probably turned it down (well, Boras did). How's about that for a theory?

QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 09:08 PM) I have lost all faith in this man........does he know what he is doing? *1/3 of the board* "YES!" *1/3 of the board* "NO!" *1/3 of the board* "Who?"

QUOTE(bmags @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 08:10 PM) well yeah. But man, for anthony reyes and jeff weaver dominating. Ugh. What a terrible series. And brandon inge booting every ball. Don't forget their E-1's...

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 08:32 PM) Just throwing things out here, Pie, Soto, and Marmol would be a good start for the best pitcher in baseball. I don't know if MLB would allow that extension to go through, though, considering the Cubs are still up for sale. Unless Cuban buys them. -
QUOTE(max power @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 07:35 PM) Don't forget rogers. Aging, injured last year. I expect this is his last year. I'm starting to wonder if I would trade the sox for the tigers. Though they have a potent offense, their starting rotation is scary weak. Everything about that says possible playoffs with an early exit. Sounds like the '06 and '07 Yankees.

From ESPN (and Steve Phillips so TIFWIW): Could the Sox top this? Would they want to?

I would love to have everyone's foresight into the 2008 season...good or bad. That way I can pick stocks that are going to go up...bet on all the teams that are going to win...and maybe, just maybe stop Britney from having that 4th kid. C'mon guys...I understand disappointment over not getting Hunter and MCab, I'm disappointed too. But until they actually get on the field and play the games, we have no idea what's going to happen. AGAIN, no one really expected the White Sox to win in '05 or the Cards to win in '06. In fact, discounting the two Red Sox wins and possibly the Angels win, the other 4 World Series winners since 2000 weren't expected. So, before we write off the season, can we at least see what might happen by, oh, I don't know, September?

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 07:08 PM) As I said, I respect the Tigers for going for it all right now, but they are in trouble down the line, now more than ever. They have a very old core, and with the Flordia deal, they just traded basically all their replacements. Even if they sign Cabrera long term, they still are in trouble down the road. However if the can win the series in the next two years, it will be worth it. I find that very funny considering the Sox just won TWO YEARS AGO!!! /green

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 06:50 PM) With Johan to the Sawx and Miggy to the Tigers, the National League should withdraw from the World Series. Frankly the Willis pickup doesn't do much for the Tigers but man oh man is Miggy a stud. Its too bad we have a bunch of 35 year olds because I'd be more than willing to accept rebuilding because the division is not looking too good for us now. Hell a rebuilding Minnesota might be better than us "going for it now" and thats even without Johan. I don't understand the age thing...the Tigers are: C Ivan Rodriguez - 36 1B Carlos Guillen - 32 2B Placido Polanco - 32 SS Edgar Renteria - 32 3B Miguel Cabrera - 24 LF Jacque Jones - 32 CF Curtis Granderson - 26 RF Magglio Ordonez - 33 DH Gary Sheffield - 39 Pitchers Bonderman - 25 Verlander - 25 Willis - 26 Rogers - 43 Robertson - 30 White Sox C AJ - 31 1B Paulie - 31 2B Richar - 24 SS O Cab - 33 3B Fields - 25/Crede - 29 LF Quentin - 25 CF Owens - 26 RF Dye - 33 DH Thome - 37 Pitchers Buehrle - 29 Vazquez - 31 Contreras - 36 (supposedly) Danks - 22 Floyd - 25

Cabrera & Willis headed to Detroit (Per ESPNHD)

QUOTE(quickman @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 06:48 PM) Kw gets sideswiped again and this one is a biggie. I wonder if we are now into plan 1C. Seeing Cabrera 19 times a year will kill us, and now the tigers are just loaded for years to come. I really do not see how we can compete with them. Wow, this one hurts more than the hunter thing. Maybe Miggy doesn't want to play with the Tigers? Maybe he can't hit as well in the cold or in the cavernous Comerica National Park? Until they all get on the field and start playing, I'm not declaring anything. On paper, they should destroy all comers...but games aren't played on paper. Plus, who's to say that Ozzie can't tell his pitchers what Miggy's weak spots are. He DID coach him and they ARE friends. -
Interesting that the Palm Beach Post guy hasn't posted on his blog since the "halls were buzzing...." Who else could the Sox be targeting besides Fukudome/Jones/Rowand?

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 06:12 PM) just remember what Jim Thome was supposed to bring to a defending WS champion. Not a knock on Jim, just things don't always work out. Still, it's a great move by Detroit and I tip my hat to them. Their pitching remains a hole, however. Their pen struggled and Bonderman seems to have hit a snag in his development. Compared to the White Sox, their definitely better on paper still. There were teams that were better on paper than the 2005 White Sox, too. But I seem to remember that they wont the World Series that year. Also, with Inge no longer playing 3B...there goes some REAL good defense. Let's see how he season plays out before we write any team off...except for the Pirates. We can write them off.....

You can't blame Kenny or Ozzie for talking...none of this would have happened if fathom didn't start this thread!!! Thanks a lot, buddy!!!
-
QUOTE(That funky motion @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 05:36 PM) What if it wasn't as close as everybody thought, and Kenny drove up the price for Detroit. Because Ken Williams is a moron!! Don't you know that?!?! And the Sox have no chance in 2008, even though it's not even 2008 yet. /green

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 05:27 PM) Wow. It would be great if we could get him with giving them floyd and not danks. *whispering* Should we tell him?
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 05:23 PM) Detroit is retarded to add in that many players. MCab is a good haul, Willis will get lit up in the AL central and they would have been better off keeping Miller instead of taking Dontrelle. I still think this is rumor fodder. It was said in ESPN that the White Sox have an announcement coming up tonight. Where? Is there a link? Or was it on ESPN?
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 05:16 PM) And the White Sox will be relying on what? You really have to be crazy to think unless KW throws a ton of money into the White Sox right now, he can compete with them. I think Konerko is a better 1B than Guillen, but the Tigers have the edge at every other position if this deal goes down. Orlando Cabrera is better than Renteria. But you are right otherwise.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 05:09 PM) Because that's so much better and more intimidating than the lineups the Yankees have trotted out the past 5 years. I was thinking the same thing. Just because you have all that talent, doesn't mean anything. 2 out of the last 3 years, the World Series winner didn't have the best talent. The White Sox didn't have a lot of household names and besides Pujols and possibly Rolen...the Cards didn't have too many household names. Just sayin...
-
QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 05:04 PM) We've been hearing the Cabrera to Tigers reports all day and they have yet to happen. Yes, but once MLB.com picked it up...that's GOT to be close.
-
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 04:56 PM) Yeah, that report can't possibly be true. Poorly written and the return sounds like crap. That would baffle me as to why the Marlins would accept that unless everyone else flatly refused. A) blogger B) there's probably a bit of truth to it...but that doesn't mean it's going to happen.

Any chance that it could be Crede and another prospect instead of Fields??? So, Crede, Gio, Danks or Floyd and another prospect? I really do like Fields and think he could be good (and cheap) for the Sox. Just a thought. If not, then maybe Crede for 2008 and then Cabrera moves to 3B in 2009???

QUOTE(bigruss22 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 04:09 PM) Sorry, I should have stated that right away. My intended major is Business administration. I am a very open person, one who enjoys a small community and a large one, so basically I am open to either type of college. I think that I would prefer a larger college though, still close to 50/50. I was really just trying to get opinions from people who may have attended or attend the universities stated, as some have had great experiences while others may not have. I know that I may be very different from these people, but all advice is appreciated on this end. I guess some of my main concerns would be do you feel lost in a large campus, or do you get bored in a smaller one or in a more rural one? All I can do is give you my experience. I went to Illinois, but I think it could qualify for any of the large schools.... I am a very open person and freshman year was great. I had some friends from high school, but I didn't hang out with them after the first semester all that much. I met a LOT of people thru the dorm and then my core classes. But, here's the deal...by the time you are a sophomore, and maybe even earlier...you have your friends and the school shrinks. Obviously you aren't going to meet 40,000 people, but you don't necessarily WANT to meet all those people. I had my friends from my major. My friends from my dorm. My friends from ref-fing intramural volleyball. My friends from Star-Course (concert production organization). Etc. And that was my experience. Wherever you decide to go...enjoy it.

From Rotoworld: So...who would the Sox target if Crede were to go to the Brewers?
