  1. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 13, 2008 -> 08:34 PM) I had to reduce the size because of his fatgino ass.....rumors are he is getting the gastric bypass this offseason. that should bring him down to 400 lbs.
  2. Melido Perez. I just couldn't stand him. The activator, the pithcing motion, the hop off the mound. Ugh......
  3. QUOTE(spiderman @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 10:59 PM) Konerko isn't going to be traded. Just the fact that it's being rumored so frequently makes me doubt any of this. Your spidey sense isn't tingling, eh? I'm with you...I think he's staying put, too.
  4. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 09:10 PM) Is the Mustang Ranch a "recognized facility"? That could significantly change the response you know. Recognized...but tainted. Hee hee...I said taint.
  5. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 10:11 PM) The sun rises and the illini lose....goes hand in hand Kinda like Kansas losing in the first round of the tournament.
  6. I miss "The Pope" Donn Pall. That was one of the best nicknames...EVAR!!! And don't forget Marv Foley...that boy could ball.
  7. QUOTE(GreenSox @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 10:29 PM) If we trade Konerko, I would hope we get some young players. 34 year old career middle relievers (geeze), rents of Figgns, head case pitchers like Santana....good gracious, I hope we can do better than that. If the Sox trade Kong before the season, it's to win in 2008. If the Sox trade Kong anytime after that, it's to rebuild.
  8. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 05:33 PM) Tax Breaks for not smoking, being within a certain weight limit.....heck why not genetics? My family is VERY healthy and has a history of living well into their 80s with minimal conditions along the way. The whole concept of health care is that those who use it less pay for those who use it more. Why shouldn't I get huge tax benefits for simply caring more? If "everyone" should have access to health care...there has to be some sort of incentive for people to be healthy. Look what people do with their "free" stuff. Nope...there are too many variables even with healthy people. Even the healthiest people get cancer, get hit by cars, or just get themselves a real bad bug. Insurance should be about prevention. If you use it for prevention, your rates should go down. That's what makes me the angriest. If people could afford to go to the doctor and eye doctor once a year and the dentist twice a year, for free, it should be able to save millions of dollars down the road by catching things earlier. This way, some ailments won't be to the advanced stage where treatments are ridiculously expensive.
  9. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 05:50 PM) So I recenty decided to start taking vitamins since the college lifestyle isn't so healthy, and so I can improve my immune system a bit, so I went out and bought Centrum Silver. Then a few days later, I noticed that it's specially formulated for people over the age of 50. So now I don't know if I should stop taking it. If anyone can offer some expertise or insight, that'd be sweet. Yas...you're up!
  10. QUOTE(whitesox61382 @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 05:13 PM) A deal might happen between the Angels and Sox(although highly unlikely), but it will not be the trade listed above. Here is a deal that might work for both teams: Sox get: Santana, Speier, GMJ, Morales, and possible cash(for GMJ contract) Angels get: Konerko and Crede The Sox get a legit CF who can leadoff, one of the top set-up guys in baseball, a young starter with upside, and a potential 1B of the future. The Angels get an upgrade at 1B and 3B, get rid of GMJ, and avoid a logjam. Replace GMJ with Figgins and you have yourself a deal. I don't want 4 more years of his contract...whether the LAAAAAAA give cash or not.
  11. QUOTE(Wanne @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 02:20 PM) I definately agree with that....but a little of both. Not sure home much more of a dropoff some of these Sox hitters can have. I still wish Kenny could pull the string on another SP. I'm ok with 1-3...but 4 and 5 scare the s*** outta me. Is there enough ammo left for Bedard? Why can't we just give those two a chance? Danks is a bulldog, he showed me a lot last year. He doesn't hang his head, he just goes back out there and pitches. Now he has a year under his belt and one of the better lefties to learn from in Buerhle. Floyd is definitely more of a question mark, but he has the stuff, and he's the 5th starter and someone that can be replaced or skipped easily, especially at the beginning of the year. If all SPs can pitch to their potential, you have a very good rotation.
  12. How about all pediatric care up to the age of 18 is covered universally? Then, everyone's on their own. That seems to me to be the biggest problem, kids that don't have health care that could live long, healthy, productive lives cut short. I'm all for capitalism, but healthcare might not be the best medium for it.
  13. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 01:06 PM) We got caught at very high altitude in Colorado one summer when the water filters both broke or clogged beyond repair. We eventually ran out of iodine, so we resorted to boiling. Except, at 13,000 feet, the boiling temp isn't high enough. 4 of us got Giardia - thankfully after we were out of the woods. Not fun, though. Out of the woods...I get it!!! Not enough leaves in the forest for for that, is there?
  14. QUOTE(lostfan @ Jan 9, 2008 -> 09:05 PM) This is every sport though really... and a lot of it is total BS that's not based anywhere in fact, remember this past offseason when everybody was like "ZOMG THE BEARS R GONNA GET MCNABB FOR BRIGGS" because of a hypothetical Yahoo Sports article? However, I guess the difference here is Kenny actually does something eventually, whether good or bad (Unlike John Paxson who could have had EITHER KOBE BRYANT OR FREAKING KEVIN GARNETT but chooses to hold onto his roster of overrated, low-ceiling players for dear life) Anyway, rant aside, there's a lot of media-speculated and fan-speculated BS in the offseason of any sport. True, but because Kenny is so aggressive, I think the media and fans ASSUME he's going after players that are available and seem to fit the White Sox needs. For instance, Corey Patterson. White Sox need a CF, Patterson was available, and I'm sure I read a few articles where it said one of the possible suitors are the White Sox. The thing is, Patterson is what we had, not what we need. And not Kenny's type of player. I just think more people assume Kenny is in on players just because he will make those deals...but more often than not...it's smoke blowing.
  15. Does everyone smell that??? That's smoke, and it's going up everyone's arse. All GM's and managers do this...don't want to give the other teams bulletin board material.
  16. I think Universal health care is a bad name. There's got to be a way to mix the capitalism with socialism. I mean, instaed of having the poor go to the ER for a bad cold and sit and wait for 12 hours. Everyone SHOULD have healthcare, no matter if your income is zero or a gazillionaire. I am not a politician nor am I a policy maker, but there's got to be a way. Maybe all hospitals should have free clinics attached to it? I don't know.
  17. QUOTE(Be Good @ Jan 9, 2008 -> 04:43 PM) Yes that is. Hopefully in the future the public will not be afraid to say Christmas. Mike Huckabee isn't.
  18. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 9, 2008 -> 06:53 PM) Wasnt he already a starter for us though or atleast a reliever? I believe they both were.
  19. QUOTE(buckweaver @ Jan 9, 2008 -> 05:15 PM) A little hypocrisy in Cubdom today, Sox fans? We have radio heads gnashing their teeth that Rick Tellander wouldn't cast his HoF vote for Andre Dawson: "How dare Tellander refuse to bet his life on the Hawk being clean?"...while at the same time salivating over the possible acquisition of admitted-user Roberts ("I just took it once and realized it wasn't for me...wink, wink, nudge, nudge"). I know Kenny said he'd consider each player named in the Mitchell report on a case-by-case basis, and I even think Roberts is a good player. But I don't want him or any other steroid user on this team. Perhaps if all the GMs held that same stance it would actually rid the sport of these substances and move it back to some place of respect. I'm not challenging you I just want to ask a question. What if we found out that 85% of ALL players throughout baseball, minors and majors, took steroids or HGH. Would that make a difference? Would you have open tryouts? I only ask because I wouldn't be surprised if that were the true number. Or even more.
  20. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jan 9, 2008 -> 06:31 PM) The Sox pursued Hunter and M. Cabrera with earnest. Both of those were well documented. I didn't mean that the media knew every move that the Sox were going to make. What I meant was that he media hasn't reported anything this off season that hasn't turned out to be at least modestly true regarding the Sox (when it comes to deals that may be "close" to completion). Therefore, I tend to believe that there has been talk w/ LAA regarding Konerko, and I don't believe KW when he said there hasn't been any talk. Agreed...but more often than not...there may have been talks, but it probably won't happen. Not saying it absolutely won't...just probably won't.
  21. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jan 9, 2008 -> 03:25 PM) Now what is the list of players we got in return for those players? Or the list of minor league pitchers the Sox have traded FOR and where they ended up.
  22. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 9, 2008 -> 01:26 PM) I will not rest until every year families gather to spend December 25th together at Osama's homo-abortion-pot-and-commie-jizzporium Dear CIA, I do not know Balta1701. Kisses, CanofCorn
  23. QUOTE(dasox24 @ Jan 9, 2008 -> 01:55 PM) I guess it's cool that she's standing by her terms (one being no alcohol), but come on lady, your son is 19 years old. If you don't think he should be allowed to drink alcohol, well, that's just ridiculous. Once a person becomes of college age, it should really be up to him to decide. It's not like she found heroine or cocaine in his car. Now, if the kid was 16 years old and still in high school and under the supervision of his parents, I'd be fine with this. But, he's obviously not. He is considered an "adult" by law and is his own man at this point. Don't sell his car to prove a point that is dumb. I'm guaran-damn-tee you she was drinking alcohol or smoking weed or some s*** when she was 19. And if she wasn't, well, good for her. But she is not her son. Agreed...if the kid was 21. But he wasn't. And she bought the car for him. If he bought the car, pays for insurance, etc. and wants to do something dumb, that's his stupidity. But, the mom bought the car and laid down the law. Good for her! As a future father (in 19 weeks or so), I'm taking notes.
  24. It's the biggest and second biggest Jewish reading day of the year.
  25. Alex Legion has enrolled at Illinois and will play one year from now. He has started practicing with the team. Hopefully. www.fightingillini.com
