QUOTE(lvjeremylv @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 01:20 PM) Congress may not figure it out, but they're doing a hell of a lot more than anyone in baseball ever did. And if you think that Bud Selig and Donald Fehr are the 2 culprits, you're sadly mistaken. How about the owners who knew it was going on for the past 20 years and did nothing about it? How about the players who themselves weren't taking steroids but saw it going on and did nothing about it? And what about the players who had needles stuck in their asses while defrauding the fans, the record books, and ruining the reputation of the greatest sport ever invented? Those greedy bastards tarnished a great game for one reason - greed. Greed for money, greed for fame, and greed for legacy. Well now they have their money, but to go along with that they have soiled reputations, a complete lack of respect, and the disdain of millions of fans all over the world. I hope the millions was worth their dignity and pride. Selig represents owners (more or less)...Fehr represents the players (more or less). You won't be able to get anything done if you had 32 owners and 32 player representatives. We, as fans, are also partly to blame. WE like the records being broken. WE like to see players do things that we, as fans, only wish we can do. WE show up to the games to see these things. Throw harder, hit farther, run faster...this is a no win situation. The game isn't ruined but it is certainly tarnished for a very long time. The problem is, they are all liars, true or false. Just like the Donaghy situation tarnished ALL referees in basketball, whether they are or not. That's what this does to baseball. And unfortunately, this is more of a witch hunt than a call to arms, which is what it should be.

QUOTE(knightni @ Feb 12, 2008 -> 10:54 PM) Maybe Lester Holt/John Siegenthaler can get the job at CBS. After seeing Lester Holt on the Westminster Kennel dog Show...nope.

QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 12:49 PM) Cmon IU, come take Self from us...please !!!! Nope, you're stuck with him and his first weekend tourney losses!!! Should be interesting to see if Gordon's name comes up. It's probably more than one recruit, but it would be interesting. -
QUOTE(lvjeremylv @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 12:54 PM) Players have career years all the time. It's going to happen at some point in everyone's career. But to me, when it happens to a number of players on the same team in the same year, that raises the proverbial red flag. Then how do you explain the 83-79 Cardinals? It doesn't matter as long as you get to the playoffs because anything can happen. Neither baseball nor Congress will get to the bottom of this problem. It isn't about McNamee and Clemens...or Pettitte or Palmeiro or McGwire or Canseco. It's about steroids and baseball. You want to do something about it...lock Selig, Fehr and a mediator in a room and FIGURE IT OUT!

Steve Krofft had an insightful and engaging interview with Obama...Couric seemed like she was still on the Today Show. She won't make it past the May sweeps. I wish Carol Marin was still doing stories for 60 Minutes.

QUOTE(Rooftop Shots @ Feb 12, 2008 -> 07:41 PM) For lunch, he probably eats a lot of "Shrimp" and washes it down with some "Squirt". We better watch it...if he hears about this he might punch us in the ankles.

Does Williams Arena need any tuckpointing, cuz the bricks will be raining down tonight. If I were an opposing coach, I'd put hack an Illini in place. -
Does this make you 102? Happy Birthday!

QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 12, 2008 -> 04:19 PM) Keep feeding 'em and it generally works out fine. They are tougher than you. Isn't that what KW would say about the Grinders?

Lots of baby books. Well, skimming them because I don't want to know too much...it gets pretty scary. And shoot, our parents didn't have books and stuff and they did *facial tic* ok.

Alright, so I'm watching "We are the Eighties" on VH1 Classic and I keep thinking, what the hell were we thinking?!?! These videos are HORRIBLE! Here's back to back: Billy Ocean - Loverboy (Bad song, whoever directed the video had a hard on for George Lucas) Men at Work - Down Under (Good song, dumb video) ABC- The Look of Love (I always loved this song, but the video is messed up) The Human League - Human (Three members, all women...whoops, that's a man. The makeup and earrings thru me off.) Yikes.

Who is your favorite player currently on the Sox's MLB level team?

QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 11, 2008 -> 08:18 AM) AJ, catchers have to stick together. But I have developed less and less of attachments to players. As soon as they are no longer wanted we send them off, if they take a better deal we call them bums. So we cheer for whomever is filling the uniform at the moment. Thanks, Seinfeld. Would you like to see the Sox in cotton unis too? Whoops, almost forgot to say who my fav is. It's Buehrle and it's not close. -

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Feb 10, 2008 -> 04:26 PM) at this point, white is hands-down league player of the year. he has really come into his own. Over Eric Gordon? Mmm, not sure about that. -
QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 10, 2008 -> 09:36 AM) The best part is we'll have all sorts of new Americans who will be paying back that loan and the interest, because it is a free gift for us. Where will I spend it? Same as Jim, but I'm spending it in Mexico where you're money goes farther . . . I'm going to carefully analyse which industries are the hardest hit and need the most help, factoring in US content in both labor and materials. Once I determine where I can help US industry the most I will buy a new MP3 player and wireless printer for my home network. Gotta help those that loaned us the money. You gonna get the high class donkey?

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 10, 2008 -> 11:56 AM) The drop-off after Tenn, Memphis, Duke, UNC, UCLA, and Kansas is huge. Does anyone really believe a team outside of these 6 has a chance at the NT this year? Yes, it isn't easy to win 6 tourney games. You never know what will happen. Just ask George Mason. Probable, no, possible, yes. -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 05:58 PM) No offense, but your wrong. I believe in second chances, but not for everybody, and certainly not everybody (in fact, hardly anybody) has been convicted of a felony. I'll be glad to throw stones, because my house is not made of glass in the sense that I have yet to be convicted of a felony, or any crime for that matter. But yeah, second chances are deserved, but there is a line and Jamar crossed the one where you even deserve a second chance. If the school, the coaching staff, team and most importantly Brian Carlwell can forgive him...he does his time (which he did)...then you know what, nobody cares about what you or I think. He's going to be on this team next year, like it or not. You want to no longer be a fan...fine. The team will play 30+ games next year and the next year and the next year. So, let's just drop it because none of us have a say in it other than to de-fanify ourselves. -
QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 03:43 PM) Yeah he's saying they both want to pull out if Iraq, and if that happens before it's stablized then Iraq will become a hot bed for terrorists. So in his opinion and many others as well, pulling out is equivlent to surrending to terror, since that's what many beleive will happen. He didn't say "Hillary and Obama want to let them attack America." which is how your quote can be interpreted and yes if he said that I would call him a nutjob. I don't believe the Dems WANT to hurt America, but I beleive certain actions they will take will inevitably do so. Just as Democrats, believe the actions of conservatives are hurting this country. Alrighty then, so what was his exit strategy? I didn't hear that in the speech. Just that the Dems want out. Y'know what, we're in trouble. Our National Guard is overtaxed, understaffed and have hand-me-down weapons and gear. Supposedly that's going to change, but my problem is when Dr. Teeth said something along the lines of, a strong America = peace. Yeah, not so much. We are so worried about going to other country's to "stabilize" them that we are forgetting about our homeland security. Bottom line, he went waaaay overboard with some of his statements. IMHO. BTW, my NY Post headline: Mitt Spit the Bit.
