  1. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Feb 18, 2008 -> 10:36 AM) minor league deal. not a horrible move for them I guess. good for the Uribe to Oriole rumors.
  2. Cubs sign Cintron...good for the Uribe to Baltimore trade scenarios. Especially if they trade Roberts.

Congrats! I'd say post more, but I don't think you will have the time.
  4. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 17, 2008 -> 09:18 PM) How do you know Pat's Pizza?! In Grayslake? Excellent pizza. I love the Devil's Revenge I don't know if it's the same owners, but I was thinking of the Pat's on Sheffield just south of Belmont by the Vic Theatre. Mmmmm.
  5. In regards to Richmond...I was just reading an article in ESPN the Mag and they were talking about Nat'l Signing Day for football and comparing it to basketball. They made a good point. With basketball, you can watch high school games, but more importantly, you can watch AAU games, which is the best against the best. So, being a sophomore and having a couple more years in AAU and probably at a different high school, I think he'll do some maturing.
  6. QUOTE(juddling @ Feb 17, 2008 -> 05:52 AM) Wikipedia, the free online encyclopaedia, is refusing to remove medieval artistic depictions of the Prophet Muhammad, despite being flooded with complaints from Muslims demanding the images be deleted. More than 180,000 worldwide have joined an online protest claiming the images, shown on European-language pages and taken from Persian and Ottoman miniatures dating from the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries, are offensive to Islam, which prohibits any representation of Muhammad. But the defiant editors of the encyclopaedia insist they will not bow to pressure and say anyone objecting to the controversial images can simply adjust their computers so they do not have to look at them. The images at the centre of the protest appear on most of the European versions of the web encyclopaedia, though not on Arabic sites. On two of the images, Muhammad's face is veiled, a practice followed in Islamic art since the 16th century. But on two others, one from 1315, which is the earliest surviving depiction of the prophet, and the other from the 15th century, his face is shown. Some protesters are claiming the pictures have been posted simply to 'bait' and 'insult' Muslims and argue the least Wikipedia can do is blur or blank out the faces. Such has been the adverse reaction, Wikipedia has been forced to set up a separate page on its site explaining why it refuses to bow to pressure and has also had to set up measures to block people from 'editing' the pages themselves. In a robust statement on the site, its editors state: 'Wikipedia recognises that there are cultural traditions among some Muslim groups that prohibit depictions of Muhammad and other prophets and that some Muslims are offended when those traditions are violated. However, the prohibitions are not universal among Muslim communities, particularly with the Shia who, while prohibiting the images, are less strict about it. 'Since Wikipedia is an encyclopedia with the goal of representing all topics from a neutral point of view, Wikipedia is not censored for the benefit of any particular group. 'So long as they are relevant to the article and do not violate any of Wikipedia's existing policies, nor the law of the US state of Florida where Wikipedia's servers are hosted, no content or images will be removed because people find them objectionable or offensive.' The traditional reason given for the Islamic prohibition on images of prophets it to prevent them from becoming objects of worship in a form of idolatry. But, say the editors, the images used were examples of how Muhammad has been depicted by various Islamic sects through history and not in a religious context. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- They mentioned their servers and in Florida.....how long before something happens in the Sunshine State???? Good for them...and be careful.
  7. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 17, 2008 -> 08:15 PM) It seems to far fetched with dozens of people needing to know to pull it off. But I would not be shocked, surprised, but not shocked. I think it's a robot. That's why he messes up on grammar every now and again...
  8. Lou's and Pequod's in number 1 and 1a. Pat's Pizza is damn good for thin-crust.
  9. I can't remember who said it on Gameday, but I don't think there will be an IU post-season ban because this has nothing to do with the players. In fact, I don't even know if this should garner a scholarship loss, although I know it probably will. This should be a coaching ban on Sampson and whatever assistants are caught. The entire coaching staff should be replaced, the AD should be fired, and Sampson shouldn't be allowed to coach for however long the NCAA determines. As much as I dislike Indiana, the players shouldn't be punished, the coaches should.
  10. I think I'd take shot on Rodrigo Lopez or Josh Fogg. He's not half bad. Other than that, everyone else would need incentive laden contracts.
  11. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Feb 17, 2008 -> 11:38 AM) Sorry, but I suspect this is spot on. Thanks for spending the money KW, but this is not a good team. It is particularly bad compared to about 1/2 of the rest of the AL. Personally, I think the Sox are going to be somewhere closer to .500. Maybe around 83-79 because I think ego and pride are going to get them there. JMHO. But the talent isn't going to get them farther.
  12. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 15, 2008 -> 11:01 PM) My first thought was they both probably shopped at WalMart as well. Then, after reading, I'm wondering if the dealer made this public to increase sales, like it did at VT. If that is the case Y'all read his comments and tell me what you think. Maybe if he just went public, but he talked to the ATF. I don't know, that would be one f'ed up dude if he was using that coincidence to boost sales.
  13. Jenks...there are just as many people who come from divorced or single parent families that are well-mannered. Like me for example. There's this old saying about having a license to drive, but not a license to parent. It's true. Not that I'm condoning that, but it starts from the family. Not the church, any church, not society, not movies, tv, music, etc. It's all about the people closest to you. Parent, guardian, grandparent, close uncle, good friend. To me, God has nothing to do with this tragedy at NIU.
  14. Violence??? Sex??? Have you seen Japanese movies? Anime? I'm not saying it's right or wrong, I'm just saying some of the same s*** and maybe even worse happens in other countries and from the stats posted before...Japanese people aren't going around shooting people at the same rate. Education, education, education. Change the culture...that's the only way.
  15. QUOTE(shipps @ Feb 15, 2008 -> 01:34 PM) No, he should be okay if he just cinges the entire tip like a cigar. So says Bob. Some ointment will help that singed tip.
  16. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Feb 15, 2008 -> 11:30 AM) I agree with that. But if I were in class and choose to say a prayer before a test, I shouldn't get kicked out of school for it, either. And there's been cases where that's happened, and it's a shame. No you shouldn't, but it also shouldn't be noticeable by the other students.
  17. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Feb 15, 2008 -> 11:21 AM) But gun laws and banning guns doesn't increase safety. In places like Texas, where there are open and concealed carry laws, are there higher gun crime rates? Crazy wild-west like shootings at the bars or malls? People supporting gun bans always say that more guns= more violence, but reality doesn't bear that out. True, but neither does the second amendment really apply anymore the way it was written. I don't know what the answer is. But it isn't working the way it is now, either. you want it bad enough, you're gonna get it.
  18. And honestly, has this happened more lately? I mean if you factor in the amount of students on campuses. Here in Austin, there's still the creepy Charles Whitman vibe and that was in 1966. People have snapped through the years. It's nothing new.
  19. StrangeSox, the problem with your argument (although I agree with it as a growing libertarian) is that there is a point where that argument doesn't work anymore. It was written when the only way to deal with a greedy, corrupt government was by force. That, at least not in the US, isn't really the case. So, I think we have to figure out some way to measure the likelihood of needing guns against gov't vs. the safety of its constituents. We may be beyond that point. If you ask me, it goes back to education. Start early on the dangers of guns. The one thing about most hunters is that they are the probably the safest when it comes to guns. Because they know how to handle them.
  20. I think that argument is a cop-out. Lack of religion doesn't cause people to do what that idiot did at NIU. Nor is the opposite true. I think if you start getting into that argument, we begin to fall down a slippery slope. Who's religion is more moral? It's the parents/guardians. You can't expect any external force to help raise our children. You can be moralistic without being religious...and vice versa.
  21. QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 15, 2008 -> 10:42 AM) Since you are a good conservative, your wife and son are volunteering at the humane society and the fact that I think beagles are cool ... you have recieved my vote. Godd luck. In spite of that, you have received my vote. /dog baying
  22. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Feb 15, 2008 -> 03:13 AM) I do that all the time. The key isn't to have the cigarette in your mouth when you do it. Singe the tip, rip it up to your face as fast as you can and suck in. Works like a charm. EDIT: You have to singe the entire tip. Like you do a cigar. I mean, you have to... Ah, f*** it. Why am I giving advice for something that's stupid to do? Oh yeah, I realize that now...I think you missed the fact that I was drunk. On Capt. Morgan. Yikes.
  23. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Feb 14, 2008 -> 11:52 AM) This is why I love fox news.com seriously. too funny. "iss, because I like dee white weemen" What happened to sitting on the tree limb? Or a ladder outside of a sorority? Man, that takes balls...to diddle.
