QUOTE(shipps @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 01:23 PM) I didnt say there is no validation to reading there work emails, but in that situation he should move on because that kind of email is not what he is supposed to be reading them for.I didnt realise he worked for the CIA then I wouldnt have made that statement. The issue is...the person in question is looking for another job ON COMPANY TIME...USING THE COMPANY EMAIL ACCOUNT. In many jobs, that's grounds for dismissal. It's not the CIA, it's a company acting responsibly.

QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 11:05 AM) It was like "Mitt Romney does Stephen Colbert as Sean Hannity." I was waiting for a rimshot after some of the lines. I totally agree...it made me so angry I turned it off. What makes me the most upset about these concession speeches is that they are usually the most detailed speeches. Where was that on the campaign trail? Get the word out. Put yourself on the line. Don't wait til ya quit...Mitt.

QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 10:42 AM) Oddly enough, I as an employee, have been dealing with the same situation. I have been looking hard for a job and going on a few interviews. Of course, it is hard to interview outside of business hours so I have been suddenly wearing much nicer clothes to work and cutting out early or going to "pick up family member from airport." I think my boss figured it out becuase out of nowhere, he called me into the office and without saying he knew or suspected, he gave me a pretty good raise. So now I have a second and third interview with two companies and I don't want to rule out my options but I feel some of my good will and negotiating power was lost. Any suggestions? It can't hurt. Just be prepared for the worst...them letting you go. But employer loyalty, like someone else said, is completely out the window. Neither you nor the company should turn down the opportunity to at least TALK to someone else. Just in case. Just because you are talking, doesn't mean you are leaving. If your boss should confront you, be honest and say you like working at your present job, you are looking out for your best interests and covering all your bases. Good advice from Field of Dreams:

Does she know you can read her emails? Is it in the employee handbook? Either way, I agree with Rex. Handshake Meeting. But she is pretty stupid for using her work email. I'm surprised any HR person at another company would want to work with her for just that reason.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 12:02 PM) He did the exact same thing Rich Rodriguez did Tuesday to him, to Illinois, in back to back years (2003 and 2004). And I'd be willing to bet the fans of other Big 10 schools outside of the Ohio State and Michigan have similar stories about Tiller's "ethics". I forgot...who were those players? -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 11:59 AM) Are you serious? If you don't think this is a historically bad Big 10, your not watching the games. I won't even argue this point because it's a waste of time and not even close. And the reason 4 teams can win the league is a point to my argument, since (1) there isn't one or two clubs that are really good and (2) There are 7 teams that completely suck and can barely win games behind the top 4. I mean, I've seen you make some asinine arguments but this is right up there. And as for the chants at the game last night, IU fans get their chance to get even next year when Illinois will become the first team in Big 10 basketball history to play a convicted felon. That should be fun. Nah, it won't be fun because both Gordon and Sampson will be gone. And just out of curiousity, do you think you can EVER forgive? I mean, he served his two weeks in jail, and has 100 hours of community service AND has two years probation. And that's for a first-timer. He's paying his debt to society. Let it go. -

QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 10:21 AM) One reason that Forde's article is good is mentioning May -- it gives context to the story, unlike something that a Sun Times columnist might write. The chanting is lame, but expected and pretty inconsequential. It was the throwing stuff, Tisdale and Frazier acting like they were on roids and Weber being a baby and refusing to shake hands that make Illinois look bad. Moreover, Gordon changed his mind about what University he wanted to go to. Big deal. He didn't make the Illinois basketball team bad -- he just didn't make it better by going to UI. To get that worked up about a guy deciding to go to school in Indiana is just silly (although unsurprising). If the UI students want to get upset about something, they should focus on the fact that state funding of UI is down around 20% of it's overall budget and is declining rapidly. Hello higher tuition.... I think the issue is the lack of integrity of the whole recruiting process...on both sides, school and student-athlete. Nobody's clean in the recruiting process. Something needs to be done, hopefully not Congress! -

QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 10:08 AM) I really dislike it when a campaign tries tomake the smallest misstep seem like a huge problem. A slip of the tongue, an unpaid bill, a candidate's middle name, a pin on his/her lapel. There are so many big issues, that I can give a rip about what color his socks are or which team he wants to win the Super Bowl. I really dislike it when a campaign uses mudslinging as their campaign.

QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 09:38 AM) There's a decent article by Ford on the UI IU game on ESPN's website. Makes Illinois and their fans look pretty pathetic for the way they treated Gordon and his family. I think it's a little too easy on Weber -- not shaking Gordon's hand seems pretty classless. Maybe, but Forde's article also didn't let the Indiana fans off the hook talking about when Sean May came back to Bloomington. I see nothing wrong with what the fans did until they started throwing things at the Gordons and the Hoosier fans. That's overboard. But chanting? Come on...these guys hear worse on the playgrounds then "Liar" and "Cheater." In fact, they say worse to each other when talking smack. -

QUOTE(lvjeremylv @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 01:54 PM) First off, there's nothing wrong with being religious, as I myself am a born again Christian. With that said, this is potentially a major problem. If Josh had reservations about whether or not it was "right" for him after just a few short months, who's to say that won't be a problem again in the future? If I were a member of the Sox brass, I would think long and hard about who they are going to hitch their wagon to when it comes to the 3B of the future. I think they should trade Fields and hope they can sign Crede to a long-term deal. If that were to fall through, at least they'd have Alexei waiting in the wings. The Sox could probably get a pretty nice return for Josh, I would imagine. I'm sure being around Ozzie can be startling to anyone, but being religious AND a rookie, that was probably double trouble for young Josh. He'll get through it. And this will all go away.

QUOTE(Felix @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 06:09 PM) Yeah, in terms of quality, it's probably outside top 20 just off the fact that we didn't get a single 5-star recruit. Still, this class is being touted as the best Minnesota recruiting class since Lou Holtz back in 1984 (which isn't saying much, but still..) I hope Gray gets redshirted next year to give him some time to get used to the system first. We've got so many options at QB (Adam Weber, Clint Brewster, David Pittman) that it'd be a shame to rush Gray into the starting job just to have him struggle. We aren't going to be competing near the top of the Big 10 next year anyway, so they might as well take their time with him. I do agree that he's going to be a VERY good QB for the Gophers in the upcoming years, and should be ready to lead us to the top of the Big 10 when TCF Bank Stadium opens in 2009 (yes, I'm being optimistic, but whatever.. I deserve it after putting up with our s*** team last year). Maybe Clint Brewster will transfer to Illinois once Gray gets his starting job! -

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 02:13 PM) Totally agreed. He should add to my enjoyment of the broadcast, not take away from it. He's gone way downhill over the past 2 seasons. Listen to Lewin and Cheek for the Rangers or Brown and the other guy from the Astros. OH...MY...GOD!!!! You want boring. Great for a nap. Hawk IS White Sox Baseball. Who else has been connected to the team longer besides Reinsdorf and the board? Not too many and certainly not as much in the public. The White Sox need a big personality because of their inferiority complex of being the "Second" team in the Second City. I will be sad when he's gone but I'm glad we have him for for 4 more years...especially since I'm moving back to the city.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 02:38 PM) That is very rarely the case, unfortunately... In fact, I think the fanatics are the more rare case. There is a VERY LOUD majority in many religions. But, for the most part, I think people practice individually. I don't know that for sure, but I think that's more the case. And don't use a sports message board and its posters as your measuring stick.
-
The issue isn't respect for religion itself, it's respect for the people that practice that religion. Personally, I don't care for religion, I think in many cases it's too much of a dividing force between people who ultimately believe the same ideals. But, I have absolutely no problem with people who practice those religions in a way that doesn't affect, bully or harm others and their ideals.

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 10:27 AM) i think it depends on the back, his style, and future aspirations. some backs don't like to play in the spread option because it is not a legitimate nfl offense. the running plays you run in spread option are more often not what you are going to run in the nfl, so that could be a hindrance for some people. i know on pretty good authority that mendenhall was not a fan of the spread because it didn't give him the best case to showcase his skills for nfl teams. True, doc, but more and more NFL teams are using modified spread offenses. It will never be the same as college spreads, but those skills translate more than they did even 5 years ago.
