QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 04:15 PM) Do you honestly feel like the movie was all about him? The main actors would be Josh Brodin and/or Tommy Lee Jones. Javie didn't have that much dialog. No, but I think he was the deepest character in the movie. The didn't get into Josh Brolin's character too much. He was kinda just motivated by money. Tommy Lee, while excellent, reminded me of the Stranger in Big Lebowski...he pushed the story along. Javier Bardem, to me, was the center of the movie. Basically, to me, the movie was about how evil the world can be. Just my opinion...
  2. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 07:26 PM) Sorry guys. My internet has been jacked up the past few days thanks to Comcast. Thanks to a new modem though we are back and running. Like I said in a previous post, I appreciate the info on all this. I wouldn't be opposed to renting for a while with one of my buddies. I would really like to live in Chicago for a while. However, my job is out in Schaumburg so I would want to find a place that is a reasonable drive. Rock, you are right. I've been out for a little over 2 years and would like somewhere with more of a night life and people closer to my age range. Also, I have around 15K saved up as I said earlier. I invested a large amount of money in an IRA and some other funds earlier this year which is why I am a bit short on a down payment right now. Living at home is nice as I don't have a rent to pay and can save up. However, I am at the point where I would really like to be on my own. There's always Jefferson Park/Portage Park. It's right on the Kennedy and the blue line to take you downtown. You are still in the city and can make it downtown real quick. And it's not quite as expensive. Just a thought.
  3. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 01:06 PM) If renting was throwing your money away, very few people would rent. Here are some good reasons to rent, not buy. 1. Your future may be more uncertain. You got a new job, you aren't on a contract, you aren't sure about the area you live in. 2. Your market may be overpriced. Where I live, despite the fact that the housing market has been dead for a good year, I can rent for cheaper than a comparable place would cost in mortgage alone. I have a two bedroom apartment, to get a similar size condo, my mortgage payment would be approximately 100 dollars a month higher and that doesn't even factor in property taxes that I'm not responsible for. 3. Your house isn't a gold mine. Generally, you do make money from your house over time in the form of equity. But the superheated returns we saw over the first half of this decade is neither sustainable nor normal. Generally, you make equity slowly, and over a long period of time. Given the current state of the market, there may be better short to medium term investments. 4. You aren't responsible for maintenance of your property if you rent. If something just up and dies, like a furnace or a water heater or a roof, you aren't responsible for the cost of replacement. If you're looking at a tight budget to handle a house, would you be able to handle something going wrong too? Well said, Rex.
  4. Another good actor cut down in his prime. RIP Heath.
  5. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 03:39 PM) And it would have made absolutely zero difference. Who the f*** cares about David Aardsma? I would imagine Mr. and Mrs. Aardsma. I would much rather keep Masset, but if there's anyway Aardsma can come back to the Sox, whether it be AAA or whatever, I would love to see it. I still think he's got a good upside.
  6. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 11:56 AM) cuz Aardsma doesn't cost as much at restaurants And I was going to say that Aardsma comes before Colon on the free agent list.
  7. While we were in town with our realtors, they were saying that there's a 3 year surplus of condos in the city. Meaning, if they stopped right now building and rehabbing, it would take 3 years to sell them all. That's what worries me about the city. AND, in Oak Park, they have the largest amount of houses on the market in 15 years, BUT, Oak Park holds it value well. Just a little info.

How do they decide between Best and Best Supporting? I mean, I would think Javier Bardem would be nominated for Best Actor? Weird.
  9. We are moving back to Chicago in the next two months, as well. And are going thru the same problems. Not sure what to do, but we own right now and I'm not looking forward to the possibility of moving twice in a year if we decide to rent for a year. While I understand that the market is going to go down a little bit, but rent vs. buy is probalby going to depend on how long you are going to be there. If you do stay there for a year or two, then maybe now isn't the best time. But, if, like ss2k5 says, you get a 30 year fixed and decide to stay a long time (probably 5+ years), buying is probably the way to go. But, I'm no financial analyst, so...there you go.
  10. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jan 21, 2008 -> 01:47 PM) Agree. Depth, especially pitching, never hurt anyone. Now, if Colon is used in the wrong way, then yes, he'll hurt the team. If he's thrust into the rotation right off the bat without showing that he's 100% then he'll hurt the team. Nothing wrong with bringing him in to win a rotation spot in ST like Loaiza did. A little competition for Floyd and Danks if nothing else. That's IF Colon will accept that deal. Loaiza was scrap heap material...never did anything. Big Bobby was a reclamation project that hadn't done nuthin' in the bigs. Colon won the Cy Young award. He probably doesn't think he needs to win anything...and you know what, he may be right.
  11. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jan 21, 2008 -> 12:54 PM) Speak of the Devil Devil Went Down to Georgia
  12. Last I checked, every team is 0-0. After that, no one knows what's going to happen. So, yes, I'm always optimistic at the beginning of the year. Otherwise, what's the point of being a Sox fan or even a baseball fan.
  13. OMG...totally forgot those ridiculous Pepto-Bismol commercials where they take non-English speakers, make them sing the dumbest song ever written, next to the Flea Market...Montgomery...it's like a...mini...mall, and then make them look and sound retarded. Maybe they want me to take Pepto Bismol BECAUSE of those commercials, cuz they do make me sick.
  14. QUOTE(juddling @ Jan 16, 2008 -> 04:32 PM) A Pardeeville man was issued a citation for disorderly conduct Wednesday after allegedly forcing his 7-year-old son to wear a Green Bay Packers jersey during the divisional playoff game last weekend. Matthew Kowald, 36, pleaded no contest Wednesday to disorderly conduct after he was released from the Columbia County Jail. He received a fine of $186. Columbia County District Attorney Jane Kohlwey said there was not enough evidence against Kowald to support felony charges. The Columbia County Sheriff's Department said the boy refused to wear a Packers jersey during the Green Bay game against Seattle, so Kowald restrained him with duct tape for about an hour and taped the jersey to him. The boy's mother reported the incident Monday, the sheriff's department said. I'm surprised he didn't strap his son in the car, drive to South Beloit, slow to 5 mph (it is his son, you know), open the door and kick his son out.
  15. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Jan 16, 2008 -> 04:16 PM) http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/fur/540076210.html Sorta safe for work? I dunno. Somehow I don't think this would impress the ladies when you brought them home. Assuming you ever got any to bring home inthe first place. I wonder if he has a matching anus-shaped ottoman? The "scuffmarks at the bottom" really made me LOL! I just don't understand why the hell anyone would want this? Although the oversized "Man in the Boat" WOULD be an awesome headrest!
  16. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 16, 2008 -> 04:09 PM) Yeah, the super happy enzyte user and his super happy wife are pretty funny I don't think those are for erectile dysfunction. I think it's for male enhancement. But, they ARE funny. Back on target: Eagle Insurance. This Is It Furniture. Texas Discount Furniture. Anything Austin local. And most importantly...ARBY'S COMMERCIALS! Stupid hat.

  18. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 15, 2008 -> 05:18 PM) Gavin Floyd put up an ERA of 4.04 in his final 55.2 IP last year, which includes both August and September. And the 5.11 ERA he put up in August, along with every other peripheral across the board improving, would be more than adequate as a back of the rotation starter. And, for technicality purposes, Timo never DH'ed against the White Sox; atleast not when Gavin Floyd was starting. Guillen started the final 3 games (the games Floyd pitched well in), IRod played in 2 of the 3, Maggs played in 1 and pinch hit in another, and Granderson and Polanco led off all 3. Don't act like he played against the AAA version of the Tigers; that's an injustice to Floyd, regardless of how you feel about him. Along with that, he also held a pretty good Indians lineup in check too. Point blank, I'm glad you are not in a position to determine who and who does not suck. He's 25, put up a pretty damn good year at AAA last year, and actually lasted past 140 innings (176.2 to be exact, with 6 games coming out of the bullpen), something John Danks hasn't proven he can do yet. At this point in time, I view Floyd as a superior MLB pitcher to John Danks. I see no reason to think otherwise. I agree with everything you said until the lasting past 140 innings. Um...John Danks has exactly 1 year in the majors. I think you can give him a break.
  19. Any word on if the iPhone is going to work better with Microsoft Exchange Servers? My wife wants one, but wants to get rid of her phone AND Blackberry and just have one phone...and Outlook doesn't work all that well with the iPhone, at least with Exchange Server.
  20. QUOTE(Pants Rowland @ Jan 15, 2008 -> 02:13 PM) I luuuuuvvvv "Corn"! That's funny, I luv me some Pants!
  21. What is the new drop dead date and will it stick this time? Also, are threats the best method?
  22. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 15, 2008 -> 12:33 PM) Is it March yet? It is somewhere... ...wait, that's not right.
  23. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 15, 2008 -> 10:27 AM) Keynote starts in 30 minutes. Let the fun begin!! Welllllll...what did the mock turtlenecked one say???
  24. I'm going with Danks...Floyd may have better stuff...but Danks is coming into his second full season, he's been aroun d the block and he's got one full year of learning from Coop and Burls. I think his bulldog mentality will get him a few wins this year.
