  1. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jan 9, 2008 -> 09:03 AM) Anyone have an update on this? Yeah, it's been reported in the press therefore...it won't happen.
  2. The bad weather plus the bad president (whoops) delayed our flight yesterday for two hours and then caused our normal 2 hour 15 minute flight to be nearly 3 1/2 from Chicago to Austin cuz we had to fly around the weather. Not to mention waiting for Air Force One to leave.
  3. QUOTE(bmags @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 11:59 AM) well, one thing is for certain, SHE is dead. I'm probably going to go to hell for this but...I laughed out loud at that one. Sorry Benazir.
  4. QUOTE(JoshPR @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 11:43 AM) Gracias Señor De nada.
  5. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 03:35 AM) I think the gaping hole is still in the bullpen, not the rotation. The Sox are done with the bullpen. It's too tough to predict. They were awesome in 2005 and crapped their pants in 2006. It's up to the guys we have unless there's a throw-in in another trade.
  6. I think you all need to put some stock in what Josh said earlier in this thread...the Sox dumped Duane Shaffer because they weren't happy with the development, scouting and drafts. Sooooo, maybe this trade is doing two things...getting Swisher AND cleaning house. And again, nice post Josh.
  7. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 06:15 PM) Another factor in considering the trade is the sox showing improvement in their drafting [and scouting in Latin America, ala DLS]. The farm system can improve pretty quickly. KW has done well in years past trading young minor leaguers who haven't amounted to much, overall. And has gotten solid major league talent in return. If the draft system improves and gives the sox REAL talent, I'm not worried. With the state of sox farm system the last decade, it can't help but improve. Buddy Bell is going to help the minors too.
  8. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 05:42 PM) Harry is a goofball talk show host and is probably trying to create discussion. No different than the people here except he needs the listeners to earn his paycheck. How about this? Crede to the Dodgers? J-Hood talked about how it would make sense for both teams and knowing how KW works, there's probably talk going on right now. Now THAT I like. Who do you think we could get from the Doh-yers.
  9. And not one of them above AA.
  10. If he's going to use Toby Keith as his walk-up-to-the-plate music...I think I might throw up! Welcome aboard Nick (and Daniella)!!!
  11. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 04:50 PM) Please, please, please, shut the hell up about this. If you're not doing this for flame bait, you're a fool because it's been debunked many, many times for you personally. Even your favorite player, Aaron Rowand, was a terrible bunter. The 2005 White Sox won because of pitching. The 2005 White Sox hit 200 homers The 2007 White Sox failed to hit 200 homers and had a "grinderball" mentality. How'd that work out again? Home runs > bunting Getting on base and not making an out >>bunting Strong Starting pitching >> Bunting All very true, but at some time, this team is going to need to move runners over, hit-and-run, first-and-third-'em, etc. And last I checked, home runs didn't do that. And the 2005 White Sox could do both...hit home runs AND play "small ball."
  12. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 01:40 PM) That's all fine and dandy, but what Rowand is saying -- and rightfully so -- is that the wins that Swisher is adding to this team isn't taking us from being a contender to a top-of-the-AL team -- it takes us from being a mediocre team to being an average team. Look at our roster and compare it to Detroit, Cleveland, Anahiem, New York and Boston. We're still MILES behind each and every one of those clubs. And we have no farm system. I agree that we have the making of a nice, youngish core. But we need our minor league system to supplement that, and now there's nothing down there that looks like it'll be able to do that. Broadway? Give me a break. One start and now he's comparable to Gio? Shelby looks nice, but when he's your top prospect, you're in an assload of trouble. White Sox Spring Training 2005 says hello.
  13. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 01:39 PM) Oh crap!!!! I knew I missed someone. So with Ozuna, the bench is full with Uribe OR Crede staying, but not both. And you lack a true 1B in that mix, but I'd imagine someone could pick that up (at which point they'll tear a ligament and Ozzie will be made a pariah). Swisher is your backup 1B with Owens, Pablo or whoever else is first off the bench for the OF.
  14. QUOTE(FlaCWS @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 01:32 PM) I like Swisher a lot, but you can't be giving up your top pitching prospects when we have 3 huge questions marks in the starting rotation. I mean, I hate to say this, but I think we all pretty much know that Contreras and Floyd are both utter garbage. Factor in Vazquez's inconsistency and what is left? One proven stud in Buehrle and one promising guy in Danks. Seems to me that KW has gone from stockpiling some nice pitching depth (a must, considering how much of a crapshoot pitchers can be) to having no depth at all, in just one year. This is a scary trade. And again, I like Swisher a lot. There's still Masset, Egbert, Broadway, and Sisco that might be able to start. Gio, as much as I love him, hasn't pitched in a band box. DLS is still young and you never know what might happen between A ball and the majors. Sweeney, well, we hardly knew ye, but maybe a change of scenery will do you good, although I put his career around a Jeremy Reed type. Maybe with a little more staying power. Swisher is going to be fun to watch.
  15. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 01:27 PM) So much for rebuilding the farm system. I hate this deal. I do like the addition of an on base guy but we get another guy good for 150 K's. Kenny just did this deal to "do something" before soxfest For a guy under control until 2012, you are going to have to overpay. And I'll take 100+ strikeouts if the guy also has 100+ walks and is a doubles machine. I love this move and I also want Swisher to lead off. He can be our Yooooouuuuuuuuk!
  16. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 1, 2008 -> 11:09 PM) Got drunk, listened to a girl vent (b****) for 2 hours, tried to find a condom and couldn't. Sober dude came to house and took me to the gas station, I went in to get some condoms and cigarettes, and went back to the house. Then the sober guy slept next to her, leaving me in the cold. F***ing cockblocked hardcore. I was about ready to beat the s*** out of him. Sorry wite, but that story was AWESOME!!!
  17. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 2, 2008 -> 02:46 PM) The USC front 7 is as good as I've EVER seen at the college level, but their secondary was atrocious. Taylor Mays is really just an OLB playing safety, and the rest of their rotation was very mediocre. Receivers were open all night, Illinois should have thrown the ball way more, although admittedly it's hard to because their front 7 gets to the QB so fast. I'd say they have 5 future NFL pro bowlers in their front 7, just ridiculous. And you just can't see me on Joe McKnight being this scary Reggie Bush type with what Vontae did to him, and he was held on check other than the fluke lateral play. The biggest problem yesterday was the Illinois LB's and safties are just too slow to cover a team with lots of fast personnel like USC, which is why I appreciate guys like J Leman and Mitchell and Harrison and Sanders and Steele et al, but they'll be replaced by guys with much better speed and that's a good sign. Basically, the Illinois offense wasn't out of it's league (it's offensive coordinator just was in the 1st half), but the Illinois defense was WAY out of it's league. Oh, and on a random note, OU might beat West Virginia tonight in a beating equal to the first 2 BCS games. Juice throws high when he's on the run, which for next year, might be ok with all the tall receivers coming in. Watch out for Cumberland and Benn next year....
  18. QUOTE(bmags @ Jan 2, 2008 -> 10:56 AM) that wasn't really the point, but saying "hey if all that bad stuff wouldn't have happened we would've only lost by less." Your turnovers weren't boneheaded mistakes, they were forced by the heavy pressure USC was getting and good tackling. And it's not like you have tom brady back there throwing the ball, some int's should've been expected from juice. USC showed up to show that they were still among the best in the nation after having suffered the most embarrassing loss of the year, and they did that. Unfortunately, it's what we all predicted and all the bcs matches that everyone said would suck have sucked, unless either of these BCS games thrilled any of you. You are correct. But if, and I know ifs don't really work postgame, but if the Illini hadn't had committed those turnovers, the game would have been closer. Not an Illinois win, I don't think, but not a 32 point loss. I could say something like 35-24...but definitely under the 13 1/2 point spread. On another note, Rashard is gone, but I wish he would stay, not only for the Illini to have a better chance next year, but also for just the reason Kirk Herbstreit said last night...to learn to pick up a blitz better. He got blown-the-f**k-up by Rey Maua...Meahu...whatever his name is.
  19. QUOTE(Felix @ Jan 1, 2008 -> 08:40 PM) You forgot curling. What's your curling fight song??? Curling, curling, lets go bloody curling...
  20. Didn't the SEC start using the spread a few years ago? Shoot even Purdue looked faster when Joe Tiller came in. It's not the speed, it's the offense. When people are running every which way and the defense doesn't know who to cover, and therefore is always a step behind, the offensive team looks much faster. That's what happens.
  21. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Dec 31, 2007 -> 11:12 AM) I think it's a little of both. If Anderson would have turned out, not nearly as many people would be upset over the Vazquez trade. Kouzmanoff is also an absolute butcher in the field. A lot of people complain about Fields at 3B, well Kouz is worse. He'll soon be a 1B or DH, something CLE has no need for. Barfield is still a very talented player. I think it was a bad trade due to Cabrera's emergence, but had he not emerged, I think it'd still be a half-way decent trade for Cleveland. Here's the thing, though. In many cases, this isn't necessarily one of them because there never was a competition, unless you give that player a chance, Anderson or Sweeney, in this case, you never know. Anderson may just need a change of scenery. Or he may be a AAAA player. ALL GMs have to make that choice and they aren't always right, although some a right more often than others.
  22. QUOTE(greg775 @ Dec 30, 2007 -> 02:51 PM) I wonder how old this guy really is. I wonder how baseball execs get to the bottom of age. You'd think KW has a clause in there that says contract is void if you are proven NOT to be the age you profess. That clip looked good but his face did not look like that of a 20-something. Greg Oden says hi.
  23. QUOTE(heirdog @ Dec 21, 2007 -> 05:13 PM) I still don't understand why everyone acts like its their money? Its not like we save anything by getting Uribe off the books and then not using the money. I'd rather have him, his salary, and his major league competence than a AAAA player taking a bench spot. If you are talking about Payton, you are right, but if you can get an A player with a high upside or a AA player that just needs to get out of the Orioles system, I'd be happy.
