QUOTE(shipps @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 12:13 PM) The sox problem last year was a lineup with a bunch of batters who would swing for the fences no matter what the situation called for.Swisher will add to that problem. Swisher is not a home run hitter...maybe you are confusing him with Adam Dunn. Adam Dunn strikes out a lot, walks a lot and hits a lot of home runs. Swisher strikes out a lot, walks a lot and hits a lot of doubles. Some of those doubles will fly over the fences in Comiskey (I won't call it The Cell, I just won't). That's the difference.

Now that Santana is Traded To The Mets/ Go for Crisp

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jan 31, 2008 -> 01:22 PM) He also thought Masset would be dominating. I do agree with him on Crisp though. Little early on Masset, don't you think? -
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jan 31, 2008 -> 12:28 PM) I've almost finished the script for the Fiction, and have almost got all the arrangements I'll need for the documentary. It felt good to sit down this morning and get over the hump with the screenplay. Take your time. And if it isn't done by the time you want it to be, don't fret. Good movies take time. And good luck.

Official Recruiting Thread II

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jan 31, 2008 -> 11:15 AM) it's amazing. in a relatively short period of time weber went from a great coach who can't recruit to a great recruiter who can't coach. good times. No kidding, weird isn't it? Self's recruits, up til now, have done better in Weber's motion offense than Weber's recruits. I find myself yelling "MOVE!" at the TV when I get to watch the Illini. I can't wait for 2009! -
Get used to it, boys...I think you are looking at the position players going into the season. If anything, the Sox will get another pitcher. JMHO.

There's something missing from that website...gosh, what is it...it's right on the tip of my tongue...oh yeah...

"Who would you rather be?"
CanOfCorn replied to Gregory Pratt's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Jan 30, 2008 -> 01:45 PM) If you would rather be x than y because x makes more money than y. Then would be safe to say that if a makes more money than b, then you would rather be a. It may be a stupid question, but no stupider than the original one asked. It doesn't have much to do with money. Has to do with legacy. Brady's won't nearly be as big of a legacy as Woods because Woods will play for 30 more years, at least. Brady, not so much. Plus, neither diddles kids. And I'd pick John Mayer cuz he diddled Jessica Simpson. -

QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 01:40 PM) The only way that I would use Ozuna is as a DH so I would rather find another player that has speed and can bunt but can actually play some defensive positions adequately. Besides, Ozuna's best days as a utility guy are behind him. He's 33 and coming off a broken leg and speed was his best asset. I think he'll have negative value this year. A broken leg isn't a torn ACL or something like that...broken legs don't slow you down.

QUOTE(Soxy @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 01:59 PM) Poor methods. How many 300 pound women have A cups? How many have C or greater? Probably a greater proportion than healthy weight women with (natural) C or greater cups. Confound. Although, a good example for a research methods class. But, would probably result in them staring at my boobs. Hm, no win. It's a win for your students.

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 11:07 AM) Wasn't Ramirez rumored to have some power as well? I think he's projected to be 10-15 hrs if he started. I could be wrong, tho. Anyone think Liefer can make the team as the backup 1B/3B? He's got some pop. Just a thought.

I've had this discussion with friends before...is America more ready for a black male president or a white female president? This is going to seem strange, but I think the majority of Americans, if this was the final choice, would vote for the black male. BUT, I think that person would have more death threats against him than a white female. Does that make sense? I think there would be more racial angst than sexist angst. It's just a feeling I have. Does it answer the question? No. So here goes...like Tex said, it's two sides of the same coin. One isn't worse than the other, they are both bad...but this election is going to do a lot to help that, cuz I believe one of those candidates will break through the barrier. It's too bad they can't work together to bust down more barriers. An interesting statistic: there have been 5 African-American Senators in the history of the Senate. Two each from Mississippi and Illinois and one from Mass. there have been 35 women in the Senate. Just for knowledge... Female and Non-White Senators
-
Concerning Illinois...I find it interesting that the candidate actually FROM Illinois is getting trounced by the candidate that is a Senator from Illinois but born in Hawaii. Guess that just goes to show you that Midwesterners don't like deserters!

Ah, right up my alley since this is what I do for a living. At the very least, you should replace, if you can, the on board camera mic for something better. The on board mics are ok if you are videotaping a bris or grandma's 80th birthday party, but not for a movie. If you don't want to get a boom, that's ok, but you should try and get a camera that can handle a shotgun directional mic. You can mount it onto the camera and plug it into the XLR port (that's the three pronged cable). It's stronger and picks up sound much better than the on board. But, they will pick up more of the ambient sound of the room or wherever you are. Whoever you rent from should be able to set it up for you and give you a quick tutorial. A better option are lavalier mics. Those are the ones used in newsrooms and clip to clothing. There are some tricks for hiding them, but you have to be careful of clothes rustle. These mics don't pick up as much room noise and are a little harder to deal with if you aren't familiar with them...especially if you get wireless lavs. So, all in all, my recommendation is to rent a camera with external XLR ports, rent a good shotgun mic, and use that mic to replace the mic that comes with the camera. That's the best and the easiest. Good luck!

shipps has it right. Brady will be done by 40. Woods, won't ever be done. Look at Arnold Palmer or Jack Nicklaus...even if they aren't at the top of their game, they still get exemptions to play. And people watch them...because even if they aren't averaging 72's, they are still beating the pants off of most casual golfers out there.... Tiger can play and people will want to watch him FOREVER. Brady will only be noticed during the football season when he is interviewed. Let's put it another way...would you rather go see Arnold Palmer play a round of golf in the Masters or Joe Montana in an Old Timers football game? -
The Mets need him the most, but will they give up their top prospectS for him? Cuz that's what it's going to take. I hope so, for the White Sox sake. But I could see them hanging on to him at least until ST.
-
Depending on how he looks in ST...Crede could be a cornerstone for a team like the Giants that have some money and need to get a little younger. I don't think it's impossible to get a very close to major league ready player. Or even one that they've soured on...kinda like a Carlos Quentin deal.

Aardsma Traded to Red Sox for 2 Minor Leaguers
CanOfCorn replied to WHITESOXRANDY's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 28, 2008 -> 08:31 PM) I think it's actually kind of interesting to consider the comparison. Yes, sometimes KW's moves turn out horrendous, sometimes they turn out OK, and sometimes they turn out amazing. If KW is doing that and all he's doing is increasing the variance of his team's record by gambling, whereas other teams play it safer with the guys they're comfortable with, then KW is going to produce some terrible seasons, but in exchange you're going to get some seasons where just by random chance things work and everything comes together. I don't care who it is on this board, but KW and his staff know more about baseball than we do. There are many reasons why he trades for or trades away players and I honestly believe that he is doing it to improve the ballclub. Either now or in the future. I can't fault the man for that. For the most part, his trades have either worked out or been a wash. Don't argue with me...there are plenty of threads arguing this point. Anyway, I'd much rather have KW than Bill Stoneman. -

It's good to get something for him. Let's just hope this isn't a two dimes for one quarter trade cuz, y'know...two is better than one. -

QUOTE(shipps @ Jan 26, 2008 -> 09:07 AM) Its obviously an unfortunate situation but he is innocent in the eyes of the law. There is no other way to go about it,you cant take his kids away. This whole situation is a Lifetime movie, ugh, I hate that channel. Exactly, he is innocent until proven guilty. I think the ACLU would have a field day if they took his kids away. If they had arrested him and he's out on bail, then his kids would be taken away.
