This drives me nuts about my journalism school...
CanOfCorn replied to bmags's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Feb 16, 2008 -> 11:45 AM) A pirate walks into a bar with this enormous steering wheel stuck down his pants. The bartender can't help but ask: "What's with the wheel?" The pirate replies: "Arrrggh. It's drivin' me nuts." enjoy. Very funny...I don't get it. -
QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 20, 2008 -> 08:25 PM) I believe all that caught up with my son. He went from top of his h.s. class to academic probation his first semester at state. Hmm, could it be alternating weekends in Austin and San Antonio? He's learning. Should I stop buying him drinks?

NBA to hold outdoor game in preseason
CanOfCorn replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Feb 20, 2008 -> 12:40 PM) Yeah, but tennis is an outdoor game, NBA basketball is not. Thanks for the invalid point though! You do realize that there are tennis tournaments played indoors. I don't understand what the big deal is, it's preseason, doesn't mean anything and will feel like a pick-up game. An dI would say basketball is more of an outdoor game than you are saying, not for the NBA, but for everyone else. Do you hear more about gym rats or playground heroes? I'd say playground. Playing at Rucker Park or somewhere like that would be better, though. -
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 20, 2008 -> 04:12 PM) You mean a third of the season and the most games of anyone on the Athletics doesn't classify as rarely? Preferably, the Athletics would have played Swisher in RF, but that's because Mark Kotsay is a fantastic CFer. He was injured much of last year, and is now in Atlanta. I think people really underestimate Swisher, and I think he is in for a monster season. If he can start fast, we Sox fans will take to him real quick. And then, look out. I think he's going to be a cornerstone for this franchise for many years. Owens will be dealt at the deadline for the second coming of Melido Perez.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 20, 2008 -> 04:07 PM) The Giants would not and will not deal Lowry for Crede; Lowry actually has value, while Crede has virtually none. There was a time when that idea was thought to be possible, but it has proven to be impossible. I disagree, Crede doesn't have much value NOW. But once spring games start...he will.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Feb 20, 2008 -> 01:37 PM) Butch was a McD. yeah, but isn't being the Mr. Basketball in Wisconsin like being the best snow skier in Florida? -
QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Feb 19, 2008 -> 11:01 AM) I worked at a Caesars for a couple of years. I actually found the best way to enjoy a pizza from there is to let it sit for about a 1/2 hour before eating. For some reason their sauce actually gets better as it cools down. More of the flavor comes out in it then. It's called "fermentation."

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Feb 19, 2008 -> 05:01 PM) "It's your cousin... Marvin... Marvin Berry!" My dad's band opened for the yardbirds in SoCal during the 60s when jeff beck and jimmy page were in the band. (Clapton had just left) Oh yeah, I'm related to JAMES LIPTON!!! Wait, that's not a good thing.

QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Feb 19, 2008 -> 04:40 PM) My band opened for Chuck Berry. Was this you?

QUOTE(Shadows @ Feb 19, 2008 -> 03:42 PM) Sorry, the pasty skin and the freckles disgust me.. plus I hate red heads, even if she has bad died hair right now.. I could find just as good looking chick around here to poke and get what I want Do you mean Soxtalk? Cuz I think Steff and Soxy might have something to say about that!

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Feb 19, 2008 -> 03:10 PM) ok, i just checked the school site and gottheil was actually an econ prof. somehow i was confusing him with the classic civilization professor who taught mythology. but seeing gottheil's photo reminded me of him as well. he was good and made a subject i loathed tolerable. although i don't think i had him until my sophomore or junior year, 92 or 93. now it's going to bother me on the mythology prof. Please refer to post above yours...

MAN...you guys make me feel like I haven't done anything in my life. But, I'll come up with one, if I can... I almost elbowed BJ Armstrong in the head during the "1.8 Second" Game during the Jo Jo English-Derek Harper fight and was under the basket that Kukoc hit the shot. I was at the final Chicago Blackhawks regular season and post-season game at the old Chicago Stadium...working with the wireless camera crew.

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Feb 19, 2008 -> 02:41 PM) good for him. i'd kind of figured he'd have retired now since he seemed older when i had him back in 91. he did seem to have boundless energy, though. I don't think that was his name, unless I'm thinking of a different class. Oh crap, what was his name! Wasn't it Tymchyshyn or something like that? And Doc, I think I was in that class.

NBA to hold outdoor game in preseason
CanOfCorn replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Feb 19, 2008 -> 02:06 PM) I hope its really windy so the NBA realizes how lame it is to copy another league's good idea without thinking about the implications wind can have on a jumpshot. Er...don't they play tennis in that stadium? And that ball seems to be a little lighter and...um...smaller. So, I think it'll be fine. And it's a great idea. In fact, I think they should do it during the season in a warm weather climate. -
Are they the pics that are supposed to be just like the Marilyn Monroe pics? The ones that were taken 6 weeks before she died? Hmmmm...

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 18, 2008 -> 08:56 PM) I knew there was something wrong with Lopez and just assumed it was the Boras factor but I remember now he had TJ surgery in August so he's probably going to miss the entire 2008 season. Now THAT'S a problem.

QUOTE(gbuk @ Feb 18, 2008 -> 05:45 PM) There are no title contenders in the Big Ten. Saying "anyone can beat anyone on a given night" is valid to an extent, but 6 in a row? In that case, I guess everyone in the tournament is a title contender. And you breaking down the Big Ten's best wins is great and all, but you can do that for every league's top teams and use it to argue your point. First of all, I'm not saying you are wrong, but I think, if you are going to make a bla nket statement like that, you should make a little wager. Maybe a sig wager? -
Bears Cut Moose/Re-sign A. Brown
CanOfCorn replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
According to the Sun-Times, Fred Miller is also gone and Darwin Walker is, too, unless they radically rework his deal. And Limas Sweed would be a great pickup. -
QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 18, 2008 -> 03:07 PM) Magazine company just called, fake contest with "free" just pay postage offer. After listening I started fake crying and said I would love to get the magazines, but I can't read. That's right...make the minimum wage earning telemarketer feel guilty. You're a jerk!

Even if Berrian stays, I'm not thrilled about that core. Any news on other FA's out there? I know Peerless Price, but the Bears won't (or shouldn't) pick him up. -
QUOTE(mr_genius @ Feb 18, 2008 -> 12:59 PM) haha good point Maybe the double would've known what the meaning of the word "is" is....

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 18, 2008 -> 01:20 PM) Boras I understand that, but if he doesn't have a job, Boras doesn't have a leg to stand on...plus you can get hahn on the case.
