Kenny, the Dodgers are calling on line 1...
CanOfCorn replied to RudyLawRules's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(soxfandude @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 09:55 PM) I think Joe would be a good fit since he only has a 1-year contract If you're the dodgers and you trade for somebody like inge... he will be blocking laroche for the next couple years True, but LaRoche will be back end of May. Not sure they want to do that...and if so, they probably won't give too much since they have Tony Abreu and Blake DeWitt to maybe take over for a few months. And then, what do you do when LaRoche and/or Garciaparra come back? -
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 08:18 PM) So you have whitesox.com, the announcers for your tv broadcast, your flagship radio station, and just about every news outlet turning this story. You have people contacting the player and the agent, for a fishing trip. I doubt it. If its this open, and they havent openly refuted it either publicly or by telling Cowely directly as an unamed source. I mean how do you do that, then welcome the player back with open arms. Because it's a business. If someone wants him...take him. If not...what have the Sox lost? Nuthin'. So what if he's pissed? Tough tittie toenails.

QUOTE(Balance @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 04:21 PM) I love GuJo! "...Lewis...he's been awesome...lets it gooooo! HITS IT-OOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHH!!!" Or maybe it was "HIT D-OOOOOHHHHHH!!!" I don't know. I love that call. And I don't even care about Ohio State. It's too bad he didn't do the Illini-Zona game in '05. He would've had a Scanners moment. -
QUOTE(RME JICO @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 06:18 PM) Is there any theory on why this happened now? Is it because there are about 10 days until the season starts and they wanted to clear this up before opening day? Well, you aren't going to put Alexei, Richar or Ozuna on waivers. Might as well check and see if anyone is willing to take him off your hands...and $4.5 mil...and if not, trade him for a bag of balls. If it's revocable, why the hell not....

Game update? -
QUOTE(iamshack @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 04:31 PM) Well, it certainly was not a good situation to be in, but I agree with the other poster who pointed out that with no ss, we might have had to pony up more for Cabrera. Either way, it doesn't look like the decision to resign Uribe will cost us anything. Someone will pick him up on waivers. Exactly...if the Sox don't resign Uribe...now we ABSOLUTELY need a SS. That'sa no güt.

QUOTE(Soxfest @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 04:13 PM) KW to sign Uribe to begin with shows me KW had no real plan! And once again I say, perhaps the Angels came to the Sox with the Garland for Cabrera deal. It is impossible for any GM to know the status of EVERY SINGLE player out there.

QUOTE(RME JICO @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 03:54 PM) Should've been green, sorry. Nobody wants a green stickied colon either.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 03:43 PM) Yeah, something's up. Fields was just pulled in the 1st inning of today's game for a pinch runner. No way the Sox trade Fields... at least, I don't think so... OK, maybe they will... DAMN YOU KENNY!!!
-
QUOTE(JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 03:36 PM) I totally forgot about Ellis. I'm starting to think that is a MUCH more likely than getting Roberts. In fact, I would not even want Roberts if it means losing Fields/Danks/Poreda/Jenks or any of those good young players we actually have. Swish knows Ellis, probably threw in a good word. And it would continue the A's as White Sox West.

QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 03:35 PM) It can be unstickied. Colon was. Nobody wants a stickied Colon.

QUOTE(JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 03:19 PM) I was thinking somewhere along the lines of.... Anderson/Owens/Quentin (one of them) along with Richar, Masset, and Broadway. Waaaay too much. You know, the White Sox, if they personally like someone, tries to do right by them. Perhaps no one wanted Uribe...or they were going to put him in a super sub role, which he didn't want. So, they give Uribe and his agent the opportunity to find a starting role with all 29 teams instead of the one or two that MAY have traded for Uribe as a supersub. I think Ramirez is the front runner with Richar going to AAA.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 12:46 PM) theres no doubt that josh fields deserves to be on this team...and if the organization is really set on crede playing third, than fields should have been playing LF all spring...i believe crede wont play at 3rd, which is why fields hasnt been playing left....but the truth of the matter is that right now, josh fields is the 3rd basement of 09 and beyond (and hopefully 08) and hes really not an OFer.....ive been a strong owens basher, but to his credit he has played well in ST and quentin has not.....i think id prefer to see anderson in center over owens, but owens has hit .200 points higher than fields this spring wow...brian anderson not only has hit, but i didnt realize he has 9 walks in under 50 ABs...i know its a small sample size but thats a good sign IMO and a good reason to make him the CF over owens who only has 1 This could all be posturing by the Sox, too. "We're prepared to start the season with Crede because we think he is healthy (wink, wink)."

Meh...until I see him play in the Big Ten, I'll hold my opinions. -
This division is going to beat up on itself. The only team that hasn't improved is the Twins. Sox are in 3rd.

QUOTE(wilmot825 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 12:17 PM) Josh Fields deserves to play on this team right now, he is a class act guy with great potential. Jerry Owens has done nothing to make him an "absolute stand-out" this spring. Swisher in CF and Fields in LF, Jerry Owens needs an attitude adjustment in Triple A. Ozzie and Kenny are smart baseball minds, send that headcase to Char. to learn. This is like giving the catcher post. to Toby Hall, he has done nothing to prove he's the guy(granted he has yet to play in SPT). Owens is the same way. So you want a two out of position players in the OF? I don't think so. I REALLY don't want to see Fields in AAA, but it's better to get him some playing time then playing him out of position or keeping him as a 1-2 day a week backup.

QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 18, 2008 -> 06:37 PM) I wonder if the real 2001 was a disappointment. It certainly was for me. RIP Starchild.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 01:40 PM) Unless someone came in and offered KW something quite valuable for Masset right now, I'll give you a guarantee he makes the team unless his arm falls off. KW isn't going to let a guy he was so happy to trade for walk away for nothing at the start of the season. Exactly. Masset still has the stuff and he's still relatively young.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 10:31 AM) I wear my retainers every night I'm here, though I haven't had braces since 8th grade? It's funny, but I feel like I sleep better with them. Do you have a wubby as well? And there is always the possibility, if you REALLY don't want to see braces, that they may be able to put them on the inside of your teeth. They did that for my wife and they worked just as well.

I'm going to go with dotel. He has a lot to prove and is going to be given the chance. Plus, when on, his stuff is filthy.

Two Words nitetrain...Alex Legion. -
We didn't have a 10th, we had a class of '89 turns 30 reunion. I realized there are two types of people...those who look EXACTLY the same and those that look COMPLETELY different. Plus, most of the people that went, still hung out with the same people from high school, not that there is anything wrong with that, but why would you go to the reunion if you are going to hang out with the people you always hang out with? And my 20th is next year. Ugh.

QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 03:11 PM) 1. Spot on. In my experience, there is a great deal more of what I would call "closet racism" in the Northern climes. I think we can look to Ms. Ferraro's comments for evidence of closet racism bubbling up, to mix metaphors. I haven't traveled in the South in a while, but it was always my feeling that people in that part of the country were much more upfront about their opinions, on race and everything else. 2. That's such a bias of Northerners that it isn't funny. Some of the most brilliant people I know are from the deep South, but other ignorant Northerners would underestimate them only because of their thick drawl. It is asinine. That's interesting, because I think the opposite...in the North it seems neighborhoods are more based on race, while in the South, it's based more on class. And, it also seems that people from the South are very formal and nice, to you. Whereas in the North, people are more likely to be transparent in their feelings. Then again, it probably has nothing to do with where as much as who.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 03:05 PM) Thanks for saying that, I was wondering that after I saw that... The question now becomes, who are they targeting that they opened up a spot on the 40 man... Any theories? Probably a "just-in-case" scenario. Like if an injury happens, or they trade Crede or Uribe two-for-one. Although I don't know how or where you would list them? Infielders: Balls, Bag-of
