  1. What do the Spitzers and former NJ Gov. McGreevey and his wife have in common? (Other than the obvious scandal): See: Wearables
  2. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 02:54 PM) Some of you may have already seen this, but it's true... Done and done!
  3. Sad to see McCarthy injured again...still think the Sox got the better end of the deal.
  4. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 03:46 PM) I actually do believe that the estimate is reasonable, considering the CBO estimate is (iirc) $1.2-1.7 trillion, and they typically use rather conservative rules for their projections. (Conservative meaning "cautious", here, not politically conservative.) Just think, these estimates only extend to 2017 -- what'll they be like if we're there for 100 years? And McCain claims he wants to balance the budget. Good luck with alllllll that if we're in Iraq for 100 years?
  5. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 01:16 PM) When exactly did Uribe learn to hit a breaking pitch. He swings at crap that bounces into the plate, he takes monsterous cuts at the plate when you need a single. He is the ultimate all or nothing player. He has decided that cakes and pie over showing up in shape in his FA year is another thing to do as well. Ramirez already shows more potential at the plate than Mr. All or Nothing. The only reason I would send him down, is for more fielding practice. But his bat already can match S&C at this point. Because there is something to be said for Major League experience. Ramirez isn't ready, yet. Richar is hurt, now. Uribe is next in line. And there's three weeks until the Sox break camp for this to work itself out. No reason to worry until the last week before they break camp. I agree with you about Uribe, but that doesn't mean he isn't capable.
  6. Can't argue with injuries. Or hitting breaking balls. If Richar is hurt and Ramirez looks like Pedro Serrano at the plate and Chuck Knoblauch in the field, then he's not ready, so who does that leave? If Quentin is hurt and Anderson is hitting well and Owens is doing alright, there you go. Just because the Sox break camp without Richar, Quentin and Fields, that doesn't mean that's the way it's going to be for long.
  7. QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 7, 2008 -> 08:37 PM) When you've been run primarily by Democrats for the last 50 years, higher taxes are the norm and are the modus operandi for that party. And Democrats or not...taxes RARELY go down once they've gone up.
  8. QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Mar 7, 2008 -> 08:42 PM) just dont expect him to catch anything over the middle... the guy short arms the ball when he feels the heat. True but they don't need him to do that. That's what Booker's for. Lloyd and Hester are the deep threats.
  9. It's a bad situation for the Sox to be in. No matter what team wants/needs Crede, they all know that the Sox won't re-sign him. The best thing that can happen to the Sox would be for a big market team like the Mets, Red Sox or Yankees or Dodgers or someone like that can start a small bidding war, although it wouldn't be good business from the other side to jack up the price either. See: Johan Santana.
  10. QUOTE(shipps @ Mar 7, 2008 -> 10:47 AM) http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=jp-b...o&type=lgns That's beautiful, man. Really...it is.
  11. Just be careful you don't go overboard. Sometimes people use Flash because it's cool and not to enhance the site.
  12. According to the Trib...Brandon Lloyd was signed by the Bears today. He flourished under Turner at Illinois, hopefully he can be a good receiver again. One year contract, terms not disclosed.
  13. If the Sox do move Konerko, which they won't, they would put Swisher at 1B and have an Owens/Quentin/Dye outfield. And I honestly don't think you are going to get more at the trade deadline for a rent-a-player in the Boras camp.
  14. Ouch, that hurts their program, but not as much as James Hardy leaving. Who is Lewis or whoever going to throw to next year?
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 6, 2008 -> 04:27 PM) If KW was going to be willing to give up Garland for Cabrera, why not see if this was a possibility prior to signing Uribe? Ever think that the Angels started those talks? It's possible. Or maybe he wasn't ready to trade Garland but couldn't find anything better. I usually agree with you fathom, but this time, I think you have to give KW the benefit of the doubt.
  16. It's funny because you guys have never passed a bar in your lives!
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 6, 2008 -> 04:05 PM) To this point, KW has really botched what he did with the left side of the infield this offseason. as much as I hate to say it, I don't blame him for Uribe. He probably didn't know the Cabrera for Garland trade was possible and he had to do something. And he wasn't going to be able to trade Crede for a bag of balls until he played a few games. He covered his ass and unfortunately got bit in it, too.
  18. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 4, 2008 -> 02:22 PM) Berrian with a bigger contract than Briggs? Wow the NFL has gone stone-cold stupid. Tavaris Jackson to Bernard Berrian...weird combination and a lot of overthrown and dropped balls.
  19. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 5, 2008 -> 02:26 PM) Its hard to feel sorry for them when they will be vastly overpaid in the future. The average raise for arb eligible guys is over 100%, so screw them if they don't like it. The problem is when they see contracts like Tulowitzki's where they buy out the non-arb and some arb years. I don't blame them for complaining, but dems da rulz. If it's that big of a problem, leave the team when you can be a free agent.
  20. I heard he had arthritis in his wrist from throwing 20 sided die. RIP.
  21. As a football fan, I'm going to miss him. As a Bears fan, I say, good riddance. And as for the argument of best ever...did you also look at who's around them? Someone name the best RB and WR Favre has had. Driver? Freeman? Favre did more with less than any of those other QBs. I'm not saying he's the best of all time, but he's definitely in the top 10.
  22. According to the Trib/ESPN, Griese traded to Bucs for a 2009 undisclosed draft pick. Think it's either a 6th or 7th. Weird, the Bucs have Garcia, Gradkowski, Simms and Luke McCown. Now Griese. Who goes? I think Simms is gone, is McCown next?
  23. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 2, 2008 -> 09:26 PM) Happy Bday to one of the site's fourfathers!!!! Hope its a good one buddy And I thought he is at LEAST a fivefather! Happy Birthday!
  24. I just figured it deserved it's own thread. So there.
