  1. More importantly, guess what team is leading the MAJORS in OBP and is second in SLG? That would be YOUR Chicago White Sox! Looking forward to this season with all the new additions! And I'll be happy to eat crow on Crede if he can keep it up and wish him well on whatever team he is on in 2009.
  2. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Apr 7, 2008 -> 12:04 PM) Me, a few years back at a corporate even in Miami. NOT Mrs. Alphadog. The tux was a bit big, but was the best I could find with about 2 hours notice. Was juddling your date???
  3. Ozzie is the first Venezuelan manager in the league. Not sure about the rest.
  4. QUOTE(beautox @ Apr 7, 2008 -> 01:48 PM) In Terms of Production is see him as a better Version of Pat Burrell, a lesser version of JD Drew but with a better attitude and a bit more power; i think he'll OPS over 900 more than twice in his career and play a well above average RF. Hopefully more healthy than JD Drew...but I'll take that comparison.
  5. QUOTE(BaseballNick @ Apr 7, 2008 -> 10:12 AM) His performance must have really stuck with you. His name is Chris Shelton (honest mistake). I'm ready to call Quentin a vital part of the team's future. He's a plus defender (despite the inexcusible lack of focus error yesterday). He's shown a teriffic arm and pretty good speed. He's got to be on the field and in the line-up as much as Ozzie can get him in. I agree with Steve Stone on this one, he can turn out to be the steal of the off-season. What a great position for the White Sox to be in! There are 5 or 6 players you can make an argument for starting. Or at least give good reasons why they should start. You've got your established vets in Swisher and Dye. You've got your speed in Owens. You've got your toolsy players in Quentin and Anderson. And you've got your unknown in Ramirez. It's the exact opposite of last year. Quentin is exciting and he's only going to get better. I think Dye might be DH or gone within the next year or two with Quentin sliding over to RF.
  6. What do you think? I think I need an eye lift...
  7. I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing Floyd pitch tomorrow. So excited about this year. They are going to be fun. One question, and this can be another thread, but if the White Sox start winning and are in or close to first place, do you trade Crede and/or Uribe? Or do you wait out the year...
  8. QUOTE(Brian @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 11:50 AM) I don't think Lenzelle will make a decision anytime soon. It sounds like he is gonna go through the process thoroughly and weigh his options. Lenzelle is a straight A student and good kid, kind of sad he is hanging out with Richmond who doesn't even know where he is playing high school ball at next year. I still say Lenzelle ends up somewhere bigger than Illinois. Just a guess. I like hearing that stuff from Richmond, though. It solidifies his commitment and shows he wants the best talent there. Whether Lenzelle goes or not. I think part of the Richmond's problem is that he DID commit too early. I mean, what could be going through a 15 year olds mind? "I already have mine...why should I slum with you people."
  9. Again, the fact that Ozzie knows what he has in Anderson is hurting him. Swish and Quentin are like shiny new pennies. You want to play with them, count them, show them off to your friends...Anderson is like a 1969 penny that has been sitting in the gutter and you can barely see ol' Lincoln's face under the filth and muck. The good thing is they are both still pennies, so Anderson will get used eventually. /idiocy
  10. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 05:41 AM) Mariotti is going to have a hissy fit, that is for sure Yeah he'll be laughing all the way home to his bed made of money. He cares because it keeps him in the spotlight. He cares because is sells papers and as long as that happens, he'll keep his job. Sorry guys, but he found the absolute perfect place to work. In NY, he'd be killed. Here, he's just kinda berated.
  11. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 08:52 AM) I think Brandon will still have a very good major league career, but in the long run the combination of both Massett and Danks is better than McCarthy. If Danks has turned the corner on pitch count, Danks versus BMac could be a wash, with Massett being the gravy. Can't really call it a wash until Brandon pitches more. Boy's been injured a lot.
  12. QUOTE(knightni @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 02:31 PM) Hmph! Well I guess that someone won't be getting their thread in early July, then. Haven't had one yet........
  13. QUOTE(JFields27 @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 04:21 PM) When the Cubs win they play Go Cubs Go! by Steve Goodman When the Cubs lose they play Dying Cubs fan last request(actually not that bad of a song) by Steve Goodman he was a huge Cubs fan that died of Leukemia in 84 .. he died 11 days before the Cubs first playoff game and was scheduled to sing the National Anthem(replacement - Jimmy Buffet) Funny, I've heard the second song A LOT...the other one, not so much. Weird.
  14. What did you call me???
  15. All I'm going to say is...Coop (and Buehrle) will fix him. This is a smart kid listening to the veterans on the team. If Floyd can do the same, they are going to be better than expected...but will still take some lumps this year.
  16. Again with the birthdays...? Have a Happy One!
  17. QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Apr 2, 2008 -> 08:32 PM) IMDB doesnt think so! Did anyone else see or like Babe starring John Goodman? I thought it was pretty good and interesting. Was that the one where John Goodman was the pig???
  18. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Apr 2, 2008 -> 08:09 PM) Worst baseball movie ever? That one with one of the guys from friends and a monkey? Titanic???
  19. QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 10:25 AM) Mind if I smoke while you eat? classic baby My family tells a tragic tale from way back in the early eighties, before I was born. Seems a certain family member had an extensive collection of classic rock on 8-track tapes, and some not so classic 8-tracks that were received as gifts by well meaning, but ultimately tasteless relatives. During a garage sale, the family member reached into the crap box and tried selling a couple dozen crap disco stuff for $2.00 each to the unsuspecting public. His ever helpful mother, when these are not selling, (duh) takes boxes of his 8-tracks and begins selling them for .25 or 5/$1. In the end, that music collection of several hundred titles, was reduced to a handful of dirty, tattered, dollar bills that served little comfort. He never recovered, and to this day, whenever some vintage Head East or Jeff Beck is played, you can see the tears well in his eyes. That truly is sad for your "family member." If you want, I can send you some laserdiscs to make up for it. Maybe and Apple IIe.
  20. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 2, 2008 -> 05:23 PM) http://blackhawks.nhl.com/team/app/?servic...rticleid=358783 All 82 games on TV, in HD, between Comcast, WGN, Versus, and NBC. Up to 20 of the games could be on WGN, which is very interesting. Overall it's a 3 year deal. (I figured this deserved it's own thread with the presser going on right now). About f***in' Time... Maybe Pat Foley will be asked back...? Hmmm? Huh? Hmm? Wayne Messmer anyone???
  21. QUOTE(Rooftop Shots @ Apr 1, 2008 -> 11:52 PM) Behind The times?? How about being a Soxtalk member for over 4 years and only having a little over 500 posts. To put that in perspective, SS2k5 has been a member about a year longer than me, and has me beat by over 49,500 posts. I'll catch up to him by the end of April! But you actually SAY something when you post!!!
  22. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Apr 1, 2008 -> 09:02 PM) Yeah, I thought it was quite good. That's because you WERE 61 when it happened.
  23. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Apr 1, 2008 -> 10:56 PM) I don't know if Weber would, but he's from Milwaukee and supposedly loves it -- it would be a homecoming for him. Plus (and correct me if I'm wrong) Marquette would pay significantly more. And the facilities are better. UI may have more money in the athletic department, since they have a football team, but they are stuck with what many people view as a poor and antiquated venue in Assembly Hall (although I think it's still a good place to see a game). I'd just be surprised if recruiting someone to UI is easier than Marquette but maybe the academic standards do make a difference. Update: Salary figures: Weber $750,000 and Crean at Marquette $1,650,000. That's just base salary, but it's still twice as much...that being said I doubt Marquette will go after him and I'll now stop hijacking the thread. That's what no football does for you. Basketball at Marquette is THE money making sport. So they can put more of their money into that. At Illinois, Guenther has said he has one more thing to do...build a new Assembly Hall...which I would be sad to see go, but understand the need for boxes. Crappy place to see a concert, though. Anyway, if Weber went to Marquette...who would Illinois get? Still, as I said before, Crean to Indiana is a good move.
