QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 10:18 AM) He would also have to return his Signing Bonus. ;-) Bruce Pearl, is that you? /sorta green-like -
Can you make it a three headed statue with Royce Clayton and Juan Uribe?

Buehrle usually keeps the ball down, even though he leads the team with 2 (!) HRs against. Danks has learned from Buehrle to keep the ball down. Floyd's head is slowly emerging from his arse. Vazquez is blowing people away. Contreras has just been lucky. Wait til the weather warms up though and we'll see if they can keep that statistic up. Hopefully the phrase Coop'll fix 'em has worked again!

QUOTE (ChiSox35 @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 12:55 PM) Voted no because Frank deserved to end it with the Sox, and I think healthy or not Kenny was set on letting him go. IIRC Jim wasn't exactly the portrait of health before we got him either, and if we went back in time to offseason '05 I would have felt safer about Thomas' health over Thome's. That said, Jim has worked out impeccably for the Sox (production wise we probably haven't missed a beat) and from an attitude standpoint I'll reluctantly agree that we're better off, but only because Thome's among the best you could ask for in a teammate. Acquiring Thome has actually eased the loss of Frank in my mind. Both are towards the end of HOF careers, reached 500 at roughly the same time, and continue to hit the pearl far. We pick up a Sheffield or Teixeira and it would be harder. In summation, sucks that we lost Frank, but Thome's the best consolation prize I could have hoped for. I'm not sure about the health aspect. It's a foot that had bothered Big Frank for years vs. the bad back of a power hitter. The Sox definitely needed the LH hitting Thome, but I agree, Big Frank deserved to end it with the Sox, but I think he may do one of those sign and retire things.

QUOTE (watchtower41 @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 03:27 PM) today's game kinda makes me even more pissed about last night's game, coulda shoulda but I'll take the split... and no doubt the fellas will be riding high on the plane ride out to Baltimore. I'd rather split the series and be in both games than split and win one 12-4 and lose one 12-4.

QUOTE (rangercal @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 02:53 PM) Emil Brown tried to stretch a single into a double ( and would have probably made it 95% of the time) Alexei Scoops up the Ball, spins and rockets the ball to 2nd with time to spare, off his back foot with all momentum against him. And now Quentin robs Emil of a double.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 02:49 PM) i wasnt around to see the play in center...what exactly did he do? He went to right center field and cut off a ball that was a sure double, scooped it up like a SS would, spun and gunned it to Cabrera and got the runner by about 5 steps. It was a sight to see. Beautiful play.

QUOTE (AddisonStSox @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 12:40 PM) Well, here's the thing on that...Jeffery is already on an academic scholarship (very funny, I know). And, though I'm not well-versed in the NCAA bylaws, moving a player on academic scholarship (a "walk-on") to an athletic scholarship may be very tough to do. Trent is getting one of the two open scholarships for next season. Unfortunately, I think the staff will have to eat the other. Thinking they will get a "one and done" player to fill the other is too pie-in-the-sky. Heeeey Addy, where you been? Wasn't sure if they were going to give Jordan the scholarship...not like he needs it or anything. And I thought Meacham already was on scholarship? -
The older I get, the less I care about what "famous" people think. Maybe I would care more if I wrote songs, acted in movies, played some sort of professional sport or was a born "celebrity" (I'm looking at you Paris). I like to call it cynicism. She is entitled to her opinion, no matter how crazy it is...and I am entitled to think she is bats*** crazy...no matter how famous or how much money she has. And by the way, life is waaaaay to short to find fault any way you can. But, that's just my opinion, I might be wrong.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Apr 13, 2008 -> 09:42 AM) . I'm a big Stooges fan as well, and also one of those rare fans who thought Shemp was pretty funny in his own right. Their best stuff by far were the shorts, and by the time they had started doing full length stuff they had worn pretty thin. Curly is the best, of course. Shemp was funny, but not AS funny. Curly Joe and Joe Besser...not so good.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 11:27 AM) http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/science/04/10...a.ap/index.html I figured this would interest Flaxx. Basically this frog adapted to life in fast moving, oxygen rich streams by breathing through its skin and no longer needing lungs. The guy who discovered this frog first saw it 30 years ago and has been looking for it ever since. Pfffft...call me when there's a two-faced baby.

Back to our regularly scheduled thread... Obviously with all the countries involved, there's going to be some politics involved, but that's what the Olympics is all about. Iraq or Iran and the US on the soccer pitch. Israel and Lebanon competing in track. Whatever the sport, that's all it is, a game. I think every country learned the lesson of 1980 and 1984, leaving the athlete's out of it. If the President doesn't go out of protest, that's up to him/her. My problem with that is the President should be there FOR THE AMERICAN ATHLETES. Does a president of a country do good by not showing or by going and speaking out while they are there? In my humble opinion, boycotting is a major copout. And furthermore, even though I believe in Free Speech, protesting the Olympic torch is ludicrous. The idea of the Olympics is to bring people together, no matter where the Olympics are being held. And the flame represents that. If anything, people should be out in force supporting the carrying of the torch and the idea of bringing athletes together in the politics of sport. Finally, why aren't people outside the IOC headquarters? If anyone should be protested, it's the IOC. They are the ones that chose Beijing. And if they were hardheaded enough to think that China would change its policies in return for 16 days of events...they are absolutely nuts and need to be disbanded.

If it is a movie about his presidency, then I guess Brolin will be a supporting character. /greenity green

QUOTE (Texsox @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 11:53 AM) I'd transfer to Austin in a heart beat. The only issue I have with Austin is the growth. The Chamber of Commerce has the hard sell on the area. Very tech savvy region. Great campus. Seat of Texas government (adios, mofos). The issue is...the current infrastructure can't handle the people that are already here. Ans last I saw, Austin is the 2nd or 3rd fastest growing city in the country. And it's only going to get worse. But if you can live close to Central Austin a lot of those problems kinda disappear...to you at least. And ifyou love Tex-Mex, and I do and am going to miss it terribly, this is the place to be. *sigh* But then again, I'll get to go to more Sox games!!!

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 11:48 AM) If you look at the number of subscribers that have come to Sirius since his announcement and the total failure of all his former terestrial radio sataion, yes he is very relevant. Simple things too, like very specific things he has on his show will shoot up search engine hot lists, songs mentioned out of the blue will jump on i-tunes, etc... So he's the Oprah of radio?
