  1. QUOTE(Shadows @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 04:22 PM) Well said.. I would think that with Illinois/OSU on ESPN the other day it probably opened some eyes that maybe weren't aware of whats going on in Illinois. I would think that the turn around from last year and the success that has been this season, a 9-3 Illinois team that just knocked off Ohio State in their own backyard would prolly be a nice draw.. Especially if they get paird with Florida.. 9-3 Florida VS 9-3 Illinois would be an awesome match up.. the score of that game could possibly be in the 40's for both teams.. they both run the spread and both have a mobile quarterback.. That would be a great game to watch However, this is based on us beating Northwestern Or it could be low scoring since both defenses know how to play the spread. Nah, prolly not. Tebow vs. Juice. Harvin vs. Benn. Mendenhall vs.....uh...Tebow, i guess. Me likey.
  2. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 08:13 AM) Don't underestimate the possible Florida/Illinois matchup, in Florida no less, nor the draw of Illinois, as it has a rabid fan base that will travel and hasn't had a bowl game in 5 years. Why should Illinois be skipped over in favor of Penn St or Wisky this year? Whom they beat.
  3. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 08:12 AM) So I guess he is not coming to Chicago. From the article: It could also be that he doesn't want a young stud breathing down his neck if he struggles a little.
  4. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 11, 2007 -> 12:26 PM) The Big Ten is gross. The Big 12 is grossererer.
  5. The best thing about the Illini win isn't the running game over the best run defense (although it's nice). It's not the play of "Juice." It's that J Leman THOROUGHLY OUTPLAYED James Laurinitis and made the Butkus voters look stupid. I don't know how many of you heard the stat that Nessler said that Leman had led the Big Ten in tackles for the last 18 weeks. And he gets no dap...ok, well a little dap, but not as much as Laurinitis. Leman was a freakin' monster...and I've been waiting for a win like this since I went to college...in the 90's! I-L-L-I-N-I!!!!!!
  6. William Ligue, Jr. and his son might give you an idea or two.
  7. I'm late too, but I've been napping in honor of Yas. Also, I called CBS...they are playing a marathon of Diagnosis Murder just for you. Could Murder, She Wrote and Matlock be far behind??? Happy Birthday!!!

    Pet peeves....

    The word...de-plane. I don't de-car. I don't de-boat. I can't stand that word and think they need to come up with a better word or use one like disembark or, i don't know, GET OFF THE PLANE! Buh-bye.
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 04:56 PM) He was awful last year. As a part time player...again.
  10. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 04:27 PM) Hasn't Burke been on KW's radar before supposedly? Once there on it, they don't leave it. If true, I'm worried. Burke is a very good player, he just hasn't been given a chance. He's a natural 2B, but because of Biggio, Burke was moved to the OF or as the backup 2B. I don't think that the Sox will get him now that Biggio has retired. But, if he can be had, I'd love to have him. He can hit, he can bunt, he can run and he's relatively decent in the field.
  11. QUOTE(SnB @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 11:53 AM) going to my first notre dame game on saturday (just for the experience, the game will probably be awful) Any places/things I need to do while I'm there? Yeah, keep driving East, head South and watch OSU-Illini!
  12. QUOTE(Chombi and the Fungi @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 01:04 PM) This is per mlbtr.com but they got it through the Baltimore sun. Didnt see it posted. http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/basebal...0,7074657.story Idk how high I am on the idea of trading Gio just to force a team to take Contreras. IDK. I can't say I would've been totally thrilled with this deal. Part of me even thinks it's not done yet. I can see Baltimore coming back when they have nothing else brewing. That was last year's rumor. I don't think that's who KW's going to get. Once the first trade or signing happens, things will come more into focus.
  13. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 12:04 AM) Leshoure's position next year will depend on whether the Illini get any more RB's in this class as well as if Mendenhall stays or not (I think he's gone personally). I wouldn't say that just yet. His brother, Walter is going to be around for another year and they are best friends. Ya never know.
  14. QUOTE(daa84 @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 09:27 AM) adam everett stinks offensively, arguably one of the worst hitters in the majors, yes worse than uribe...near jason kendall and brad ausmus....however, he is one of the few SSs who is actually an upgrade over uribe defensively...that said why does KW insist on finding sub .300 obp guys to play SS? Perhaps you should check out the career stats of our manager.
  15. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 2, 2007 -> 02:50 PM) He's not going to get 6 years, it'll be 4 or 5 at the most and as for the contract that he supposedly turned down, according to Hunter a legitimate offer was never even made by the Twins. I'm not worried about the 4th or 5th year of the deal because the first 3 should be pretty damn good by that 4th he'll be slower but probably still hitting for good power and making all the plays he's capable of getting to in the OF. And yes, some people are worried about the first few years of the deal. When claims of "career years" and "he's a mediocre player" are being made, then it's not just the last year or 2 of the deal that people are worried about. I don't see anyone offering him more than 5 guaranteed years, if someone like Tom Hicks decides to do so then bully for him he can have Torii. But $13M-$14M a year over 4 or 5 years doesn't scare me all that much. What else are the Sox going to spend that money on? The payroll will likely be in the 100's for the foreseeable future and there's no players aside from Garland (who is pretty much out the door) that are looking for big money in the coming years and the free agents aren't going to get any cheaper. The money is there and the player is a good fit. Ah, the voice of reason. And who's to say that he can't slide over to LF when his range for CF lags. I agree 100% percent...4 or 5 ok. 6 or more, no way.
  16. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 01:11 PM) I'd just sign Barry Bonds and make 13 clones of him. That's funny, I was thinking the same thing, except instead of Barry I was thinking Timo.

    QUOTE(Vance Law @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 04:16 PM) Bruce Levine reports from GM meetings that White Sox have made Torii Hunter their #1 priority. This means either that: 1) This info was disseminated to Levine in order to help negotiations in acquiring a different CF (Rowand, Damon, Crisp, Jones, Cameron). or 2) Getting Torii Hunter is their #1 priority. Start sarcasm..................NOW! So, either they will sign him or they won't sign him...is that what you are saying? /sarcasm
  18. What's the matter with you guys? The man is trying to protect his home and family and you are throwing out accusations about steriods? At this point, his and his family's safety is more important than than HGH/steroids/whatever. show some compassion!
  19. Hey NorthSide...I think Castillo and Matsui were 2B options. The problem here lies with Crede. He has very little trade value and the Sox want Fields starting every day. So, Fields goes to LF. If the Sox sign Hunter or Rowand, they HAVE to get a leadoff hitter, hopefully at SS. If they get Crisp or leave Owens out there, they have more flexibility, but not much. It also depends on how much they think of Richar. He showed he can take a walk, I think his OPS was better than his AVG for awhile. Maybe he's your answer. Anyway, got off track there. If the Sox can deal Crede...Fields moves back to 3B and you can have Owens in LF and Hunter/Rowand/Crisp in CF and your SS can be any of those mentioned. I wouldn't mind Izturis. I think the Cubs made a mistake letting him go.
  20. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 10:30 PM) The Lakers are in no position to dictate the trade. We are a playoff team either way, and they probably arent. If they want to hold on to Kobe who hates playing for them, go ahead. Go ahead, Kupchak, keep asking for Deng. Kobe will keep saying no. Although I'm very surprised the Bulls would offer him. I would think he'd be the closest to untouchable. I would also hesitate to dump BOTH Tyrus and Joekim. One, yes...but both, no.
  21. QUOTE(Vance Law @ Oct 30, 2007 -> 05:24 PM) First off, Uribe was 6th walks, last year, not 5th. The orang-utan who wrote that article failed to include Iguchi who had 44 walks in only 90 games. Also Uribe was 2nd in plate appearances, not 3rd. How many walks do you think Dye had in 2005? He didn't get up to 45. 45 walks is pretty much exactly typical for Dye. He didn't get a whole lot more last year when there was a reason to pitch around him because he was one of the top 5 hitters in the league. This year he hit .244 in the first half of the season. Yes he should. No it isn't. Your bizarre claims don't make any sense. They make exactly the same amount of sense as this one: "Josh Fields should not have been on the team last year, because IN HIS ENTIRE CAREER he didn't have as many home runs as Jim Thome hit IN JUST 2006! And you guys call Fields a power hitter??!?!!?" Did you look at the numbers? Uribe didn't have the 6th highest walk rate on the team. He had the 6th highest number of total walks. He had the 12th highest walk rate among guys who got at least 100 at bats. Right about exactly where you'd expect to find him. Higher only than AJ among regulars, and Toby Hall, Pods, Cintron among others who got 100 at bats. The Sox, due to injuries, trades, and minor league call ups only had 5 players who had enough plate appearances to qualify for the batting title. After those 5, both Iguchi and Fields had more walks than Uribe. The guy who saw the most playing time (outside of AJ) but who had LESS walks than Uribe was Owens. Owens-- 389 plate appearances. Uribe-- 563 plate appearances. Uribe had 7 more walks in those additional 174 plate appearances. So Uribe being 6th on the team in raw number of walks is not outrageous, or horrendous, or even surprising. It is exactly, precisely what one would expect. PS...you could have made your point without being a jackass about it. And yes, I understand the fact that there were injuries, and the walk rate as opposed to number of walks, etc. But, the fact that Uribe swings at, well, everything, it's still amazing that he was 6th in total walks. that's the mark of a bad team...injuries or not.
  22. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 30, 2007 -> 01:04 PM) Well, yes and no. The Sox drew 532 walks last season, which is right around the middle of baseball and of the AL. But... a fifth of those walks were 1 player: Jim Thome. The fact that Dye only had 45 is very telling. One because he is a pretty free swinger and two because he didn't have a lot of protection. I don't care if every player on the 40 man was called up for 100 abs, Uribe shouldn't be fifth on the team in walks. It's not a slam on Uribe, we already know what we have in him, it's more telling of the rest of the team.
  23. Are you kidding me? NO ONE has brought up the fact that Uribe was FIFTH on the team in WALKS last year with 34!!!!!!! That's just plain ridiculous...and if it doesn't change, the Sox aren't goin' anywhere. I'm flabbergasted and appalled by that stat.
  24. I've never...dropped double nickels on the Knicks. Or been to Hawai'i.
