  1. http://www.dailysouthtown.com/southtown/ds.../pro/111sd1.htm Happy? It's the basis link for this entire discussion. Only one source claimed that Maggs had turned down the 70/5 deal and I believe that was the same source that said Prior needed Tommy John surgery in April. No other media source has reported him turning down a 70/5 deal because no other media source reports a 70/5 deal BEING OFFERED. And the article date matters a bit. Back in May, the A's were struggling and weren't winning games. With the same formula, they're winning. It would make them less inclined to look for help, so it would appear. And as Rowand said, that article is pure speculation on the part of the author. The only possible bastion of reality in it is that "K-Will" said that he's dreaming big and the thought may have entered his head.
  2. That's from the original source that this whole topic started from. And you realize that your information regarding Is from May 13th?
  3. whoa whoa whoa That's a new one that I don't think any of us have heard. If an offer like that was on the table, I think a lot of people here would agree that you would have to go for it. Plus, the 70/5 offer was never made, according to Maggs.
  4. I'm not sure they will, either. The Yanks have got Sheffield and Matsui in the corners. Are the BoSox set there, too?
  5. It'll be tough; Burnett has always been one of their "hot prospects."
  6. Jerry Manual had a certain effect on players...
  7. Testing the market may aid us in resigning him, too. He wants Vlad money, but who's going to pay it? Maybe he'll come back to us for $10m/season instead.
  8. You win some; you lose some. I'm not sure Ginter would have succeeded here. Maybe he learned a new pitch with the NYM. You can see firsthand how Loaiza and Scho step up after adding a new pitch.
  9. All the starters had a bad turn during the last rotation. Scho has been a little shakey, but not because he's been pitching bad. In the Braves game, he had a 1-2 count. Threw two strikes that were both called balls and then gave up a double on the next pitch that scored the difference in the game. I think he'll do alright when he comes up again.
  10. I wouldn't be surprised about Rauch. I heard he had permission to leave the game early from Cooper (to stop by his family on the way to AAA, since he was going to be optioned down there regardless of the game's result). Remember, that was the game that Guillen missed. I'm sure if Guillen had been there, none of this would have happened. My impression was that the whole Rauch-gate was just a miscommunication between Rauch, Cooper, and Kenny Williams, who exploded. It'd be really funny if Rauch came up and was a star. The "he'll never play for the White Sox organization again" quote would be sort of funny to have played at a Cy Young award ceremony.
  11. Brando- Why don't you think MB is an ace?
  12. I believe that is because Alomar was unavailable (he'd caught the Saturday game and maybe the Friday one, too). It was mentioned earlier in the thread that MB preferred Burke to Olivo with Alomar unavailable.
  13. All those games against the Royals late in the season will be like playing a AAA team at that point...
  14. Yeah, I thought that was interesting as well. The only guy out there I prefer is Sheets since he can be dominating. Garcia is very, very good, but I'm not sure he has those same sort of dominating outings.
  15. How about these impressive numbers: YEAR G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS BA OBP SLG OPS 2004 4 11 2 2 1 0 0 2 2 2 1 0 .182 .400 .273 .673 They've got Nomar waaaaay up there in the fan voting.
  16. Being at the park this weekend, I didn't feel that the extra 15000 fans were the accountant, 3-flat type. Maybe that's because I was UD, but I didn't get that feeling that when 34000 came, it was inflated on corporate accounts.
  17. 26 complete games AND HE DIDN'T EVEN LEAD HIS TEAM IN THAT CATEGORY!
  18. I think Shingo's the man because he's done it in the playoffs before. Granted, it was in Japan, but he's proven his stuff in a high pressure environment. Didn't Contreras struggle in the post-season?
  19. I'm in favor of bringing in an "Adult Themed" mascot. Some of the avatars and signatures around here would work nicely.
  20. He's had as big an impact on the Twins as Borchard has had on the Sox. It's all potential that has yet to show up in the big leagues. Plus, that's been the Sox farm strategy over the last ten years or so: draft anybody with a live arm and trade 'em for whatever you need.
  21. Please never go to a game against MINN, then.
  22. There's actually an awesome atmosphere at that place when there's 25000+. I was at the Sat. game (first of the season), in the upper deck around first base. I had this latino family in front of me (one of the kids had an awesome fro) that I practiced some of my old HS Spanish skills on. There was some guys on my left that were cool, too. Hopefully I can sit in the outfield sometime soon. I think Ozzie's done more than re-energize this team. I think he's re-energized the whole organization and it's starting to reflect in the fans, too...
  23. I think both facts are true. I also think BK might play some role on this team. No idea what it is, but just sort of a feeling like his time with us isn't done yet.
