QUOTE(dasox24 @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 05:05 PM) That's awesome... Chalk this one up, however, as a deal that I like. It's always good to have a veteran presence in the rotation (you don't want a bunch of rookies or 2nd-year types), and the contract is way below what someone would pay him on the open market. Plus, as alluded to earlier, Buerhle is as good as gone and Contreras is up there in age. That only leaves us with Garland and Vazquez as vets in a few years (assuming Jon reups), hopefully along the likes of Danks, Floyd, Haeger, Gio, Broadway, etc. I still, somewhat irrationally, despise Vazquez. I hopes he makes me fall in love this season...
-
this summarizes my feelings:
-
Between Broadway, Haeger, Danks, and Gonzalez... could KW's insane plan of a completely revamped rotation by 2009 just work?
-
Revolutionary thinking: trade Vazquez for whatever we can get for him. Start Floyd and Danks.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 05:18 PM) Obviously your people are not as good as Guillens. Because his people obviously report back on partying of white sox players. I wouldn't say so much people. I have top men working on it now. Who? Top... men...

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 05:14 PM) His comments were direct. Ozzie made the comment in this reference. He said he only had Brian Anderson as a friend, he made the wrong friend. I have people around town. I know when they are out at the bars. My people are better than your people

QUOTE(Jimbo @ Feb 23, 2007 -> 12:58 PM) I should work for ESPN. What else is there to know, the guy is in jail. Is he somebody's b**** or did he kick somebody's ass on the first day?

Didn't the NFL do something lately to discourage trading for coaches? I believe that Herm Edwards was traded for a pick last offseason, but for some reason I thought the NFL created some new rules against this?

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jan 11, 2007 -> 09:12 PM) I'd be against a 16 team playoff (logistically it's not possible anyway), and probably an eight team playoff. I say they just go to the "plus one" system. What people don't seem to understand is college football has a great regular season, better than the one CBB has IMO. Who cares what the people who are only fans for a week think. I think the real problem to consider is that under the BCS, an OSU vs. UM championship game was a very, very real possibility. Then we go out and see those teams each lay a turd in their respective bowl games and it really has to bring into question the system itself. My primary problem is that it is essentially a 2 team play-off where the selection process is arbitrary. The BCS method of crowning a champ should be done away with and replaced either with the original bowl system or with a 4 or 8 team play-off. For sake of argument, assume that if they had played USC would have beaten OSU in a bowl. I think this is a fair assumption considering the bowl game outcomes. In the old system, USC and OSU would have played in the Rose Bowl and USC wins. UF plays probably ND in the Sugar Bowl and wins handily. UF is named champion. Same outcome... but there is a lesser threat of a real fraud (UM or OSU) being named the champion. I think the season itself and the outcomes of the bowl games has gone as long a way as possible to either eliminate the current system or to arrange a play-off. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 11:56 AM) He knew he couldnt mold the players in the NFL like he did in college. This contract is REALLY long though. $40 million, 7 years, correct? Why didn't they just try throwing that contract at Carroll first? -

Alabama might want to get Peterson (BSU coach) on speed-dial. -
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Dec 28, 2006 -> 12:40 PM) He was never a hit. Just a one-year. Yeah, but David Wells was on the list. I thought Richie deserved honorable mention.

What about Todd Richie?

QUOTE(soxwon @ Dec 26, 2006 -> 07:35 PM) the sox are loaded for 07 and you might not like it now, but 2-3 years the sox will be the most sought after team for deals because kw stockpiled pitchers. in 3 years i see our rotation as lance broadway ray liotta andy sisco john danks gavin floyd charlie haeger if this comes to frutation, KW will be looked upon as the best GM in the game bar none. I agree. KW has done a very nice job of loading up on some very good young talent (some of which is ready to make an immediate impact) at the cost of an aging, lame-duck pitcher (with a well documented 86 mph fastball and couldn't hold runners on). The McCarthy trade sting a bit, but I think many will end up surprised at the production we get out of our fifth starter. These guys aren't Felix Diaz, Schoenweis, and Rauch. I think the biggest room for our concern for 2007 comes at the top of our rotation: can Buehrle, Contreras, and Vazquez get into a good form? Trading Garcia and McCarthy really don't have an effect on this.

QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Dec 22, 2006 -> 11:32 AM) Is this statement directed at Notre Dame? Because if it is you are a fool, I will take a top 3 class and winning more than 2 games a year. And just so you know, Harrison Smith who is annoucing today has been considered an ND lean and as is Chris Donald. Both reign from Tennesee and that would make a clean sweep for ND of their big three. Lets just remember, Zook also has to coach these recruits. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that Wilson can kiss the chance at a BCS bowl every year away. Weis>>>Zook Yeah, it must suck when the extent of your coach's acumen ends in February.

QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Dec 13, 2006 -> 05:05 PM) Golden Tate is also Irish!!! he will also appear in Rocky VII as the new villain.

It's official that Williams joins the Irish. Rumor is Golden Tate will announce later on for the Irish as well.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Dec 2, 2006 -> 10:37 PM) And I assume the rest of the ND bandwagon will just ignore the fact that one of theirs, Wedge, started talking s*** about Wisconsin, prior to me saying anything about Wisconsin beating ND. Classic. I started talking s*** about Wisconsin because they were the popular choice for "deserving" a spot ahead of ND. -

QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Nov 30, 2006 -> 02:34 PM) I'm so sick of ND and their b****ing about rankings. Because, you know what, for that JV schedule they play, they sure as hell should be able to win at least 9 games, and hell, for being ranked in the preseason top 5, they should at least be able to beat one of the two good teams they played. And instead, they got their asses kicked by Michigan and USC, and should be embarassed for even playing a close game against MSU. Voters are a disgrace for their blind love of all things ND. And I swear to god, if I hear how great of a coach Fat Boy is again, I'm going to set the entire College Gameday setup on fire next week. Wisconsin has a JV schedule, just like ND's. Actually, ND played 2 elite teams this year, Wisconsin played 1. at Bowling Green WESTERN ILLINOIS SAN DIEGO STATE at Michigan at Indiana NORTHWESTERN MINNESOTA at Purdue ILLINOIS PENN STATE at Iowa BUFFALO ND would be 1-loss playing that schedule. Hell, maybe they'd catch a few breaks and even beat Michigan. -

If you say "NO" provide the 10 teams that should go ahead of ND. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 02:01 PM) When were you keeping pretty close to OSU? They ran all over ND. Apparently the 14 point margin is close to you? Do you remember the scoring? 10:02 Ginn 56 yard pass 14:16 Ginn 68 yard run 02:21 Holmes 85 yard pass 1:46 Pittman 60 yard run 293 yards rushing 342 yards passing avg ypp 9.6 Their secondary, this year, does not have the speed to keep with the two good team they have played so far this year. They were overrated at the beginning of the year, and still are now. True, they gave up big plays, but if you review the tape I think you will find it was due to blown coverages and players out of position rather than having a horrendously slow secondary. The best case I can make is that UM's defense when from looking slow and bad to looking fast and good. I don't know much of the players involved, but the biggest change was probably having English as the coordinator. Also, if you actually review the Michigan tape from this year, you would find that a number of those points were give up as a result of turnovers rather than a slow secondary. Sure, Manningham made some great plays, but it's not because we've got guys with cement shoes. Our guys keep up, they just don't make good plays on the ball. I don't think that's on account of them being horrendously slow. It's more on account that we have guys with poor coverage skills single covering very dangerous receivers (i.e. D'Wayne Jarrett, Smith, and Manningham were all left with single coverage often). Additionally, our line gets fairly poor pressure, leading to more blitz. This means less linebackers to cover the middle of the field, meaning less help for the secondary. We've got guys back there that are talented and fast. There's no excuse for as poor a defense as ND had this year and a lot of that has to fall on Minter. Remember, guys can look slow (especially in the secondary) if they play tenatively. Never once in the UM or USC game did I think that our guys were getting run around. It was bad cover-play, we can't follow receivers in and out of routes and guys bite or trip on double moves. Guys are left on an island too often and don't get proper safety help since we don't have a real FS (Zibby and Ndukwe are both closer to SS). As an example, the Bears have a pretty solid secondary, but could you imagine how bad they might look if they were saddled with the front seven of a team like the Raiders? That secondary looks a lot better because of the awesome 7 players in front of them. Likewise, ND lacks quality linebackers (Crum can play the run, but none of them can really cover) and lacks depth at DL for a good rotation (which is important. Those guys look completely gassed at the end of games). I know it's easy to see long yardage plays and big score differentials and to chalk it up to team speed, but if you look at how highly ranked a lot of ND's players were coming out of high school I just can't believe that speed is the only problem. A chunk of it has to be scheme and poor cover fundamentals. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 11:57 AM) The secondary is extremely slow, and should be apparent by now. I have mentioned it before and all ND fans could come up with is that Zibikowski is fast. If he is the speed and quickness you hang your hat on, then it will be a long game. They just do not have the team speed to keep up with teams like Mich, USC, OSU. And yet we had the team speed last season to beat Michigan, keep close to USC, and pretty close to OSU. Trust me, it's not just speed. Was Urlacher slow under Jauron? Why does he seem to play faster now?
