QUOTE(zenryan @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 12:45 AM) going to be funny when ND starts out 0-1 You're going to have to wait for that humor until about 2013. I just don't see it happening in 2006. Calvin Johnson has been gimpy in practice and the guy throwing it to him is Reggie Ball. I also don't see PSU as a big threat or being "more athletic" enough to beat ND. Plus, Morelli is supposed to be as smart as a box of rocks from what I've heard and it'll be the kids first road start (his second start after gaining key experience against the Fighting Zips of Akron). I think the GT might end up like our game against Pitt last year: some dicey moments early, but the offense overwhelms in the end. PSU will probably be like our Tennessee game from last year: a strong, athletic defense makes things a bit uncomfortable at times for us, but a poor quarterback and woeful offense prevent them from mounting a serious threat. If there's one top 5 team I see disappointing, I think it will be OSU who will struggle to match their record from last season. I was some article by Bill Steele about how the calibre and magnitude of personnel losses (each lost starter adds an amount of points somehow proportional to their draft spot). Well, OSU's point total was well beyond the threshold that "100% of the team have a worse record than the previous year" (granted, this is based on data going back only 13 years to 1993). -
Ace versus Ace... I love it!

Wish I Could see the game. At least it's going OK so far!

QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 10:12 PM) Which is another reason that it was a smart play. The Yankees just guessed right. It happens. It's a pretty obvious guess if you ask me, though.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 10:08 PM) Pods caught stealing, I'm shocked at that development. In other news, things are blowing up like hell in the middle east. what's going on?

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 08:35 PM) The Ritchie trade was bad, Kip Wells won as many games as Ritchie did the previous season and he was younger and cheaper. No one turned into a superstar but Wells and Fogg could have helped the White Sox in subsequent years. Fogg in the bullpen, and Kip Wells as the #5 starter. David Wells wasn't a bad trade. KW gave up nobody who did anything on the major league level ever again. Sirotka never played in the major leagues again and Simmons was so bad the White Sox re-aquired him the next spring off waivers I believe and wound up releasing him. Navarro over Clemens was Schueler, and if you look at their records, you could see why he chose Navarro over Clemens at the time. Clemens was 1 game over .500 the previous 4 seasons combined I believe and had a very high ERA. Navarro was coming off a couple of very impressive seasons with the Cubs, and had had some success in Milwaukee. In fact, Navarro was at least as successful in his major league career as Javy Vazquez had been when they were acquired. Schueler was also the GM when Albert Belle signed instead of trading for Barry Bonds. Bonds wouldn't have been long for the White Sox, and I'm glad he didn't because if Barry Bonds was a White Sox this board would be filled with denial of his cheating. All I know is when KW traded for Vazquez, he may have penciled him in as the fifth starter, but he didn't expect him to pitch like one. And anyone who says he's better than any fifth starter in recent White Sox history forgets that Esteban Loaisa was the fifth starter at the beginning of the year in 2003. He didn't do too bad that year. I understand Wells and Richie were Schueler trades but the original poster said something about the "last 30 years" not just under KW. Also, "Fifth Starter" is as meaningless a designation for a starting pitcher as is "Ace" but if you want to be technical, I think everyone had Danny Wright penciled in as "Fifth Starter" in 2003. A better "Fifth Starter" example would be 2005 Jon Garland.

QUOTE(SEALgep @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 07:45 PM) How's that? He was asleep for the Todd Richie trade as well as the David Wells one. Let's not forget the Jamie Navarro instead of Roger Clemens signing or the Albert Belle instead of Bonds....

Minnesota Twins Post Mortem Playoff Thread

QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 12:53 PM) Wow, great play by Tyner to rob the homer. That will probably be the number one webgem tonight. looks like the Twins won't miss Hunter once he leaves this offseason. -
What will Boston do without all that "leadership" ?

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 07:10 AM) Really...? I don't watch that show and have been using that phrase for years. interesting phrase, though

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 03:44 AM) Sure, I'll look for it for ya. Though if you did you'd probably find it before me. I'm busier than a one armed paper hanger today and leaving town tomorrow until Sunday night. You didn't happen to watch M*A*S*H last night, did you? They used the same reference.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 09:16 PM) Not to throw any water on your fire, but Thome has back spasms and Konerko is getting x-rayed. That would trump any problems the Red Sox are having if those 2 aren't near 100% for a while. Jurassic is available.
