QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 07:22 AM) Stats point to a 2-1 win! Actually the stats point to us losing, although I'm still hopeful, hopefully we can finally sweep these f***ers. Cleveland will send ace C.C. Sabathia to the mound. The 24-year-old left-hander has never lost at U.S. Cellular Field, going 5-0 with a 2.21 ERA in five career starts. Sabathia is 8-2 with a 4.16 ERA in 12 starts against the White Sox.

I've been to 8 games this year and always sit in the outfield and honestly I can't remember a game where the starting pitcher DIDN'T play long toss with Man Soo

I would honestly feel more comfortable with BMac being the 5th starter for the rest of the year, at least he throws strikes and listens to his catcher and pitching coach. -
GAME THREAD 6-1-2005 SOX VS HALOS
valponick replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in 2005 Season in Review
QUOTE(zirc @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 01:12 AM) you know, it's kind of reminiscent of that series with the yankees two years back when we absolutely destroyed them in the first two games, and instead of stepping on their throats, started cotts for the third game...2 out of three isn't bad Thats exactly what this reminds me of. Ozzie puts a terrible lineup out there tonight for starters and then when they scratch and claw from 2 runs down to take the lead he lets them down by not bringing in a better pitcher. It just takes the life out of a team when you do stuff like that. I don't even know what to say, I really don't even blame Walker, he hasn't pitched in so long what do you expect out of him? Ozzie just made a poor decision, he had other options but chose what was by far the worst one. I hope this doesn't have a domino effect and shake our overall confidence and chemistry, but Ozzie let the team down tonight, plain and simple. -

I can honestly say that I think this was Guillens worst decision so far this year. This has the potential to cause a huge momentum change for this team. Instead of going for the win and sweeping a top AL team you bring in your worst pitcher, why? I think something like this can really take the air out of a team and cause problems, I hope that's not the case but it just has that feeling. -

I honestly don't understand why Timo is still on this team, he is awful in every way. -
QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ May 31, 2005 -> 10:37 PM) There's no beer in the bleachers?!?! Dammit, I am driving 6 hours to go to the game on Friday. I bought bleacher tickets online. If I cannot get a beer I will be pissed. You'll be able to get a beer, just not from a vendor. And it has been like this on half price nights for some time now, you can only get 1 beer per person at a time.

I honestly don't know why Crede is still starting for this team.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ May 27, 2005 -> 04:55 AM) Everett has been the worse, he looks totally over-matched at the plate its not even funny.... at times it seems like Timo Perez looks better at the plate at least when Everett is batting from the left side. He is just overswinging and trying to pull everything from the left side. He looks great from the right side going to right field and hitting line drives. I say keep him at DH vs lefties but vs righties give guys like Widger and Ozuna who have been making things happen this year some AB's.

QUOTE(fathom @ May 27, 2005 -> 04:51 AM) If we're relying on Frank to solve all our offensive problems......we're screwed. Our bottom of the order is simply pathetic right now. The thing is, you don't even have to make good pitches to guys like Dye, Everett, Crede, and Uribe in order to get them out. I would love nothing more than for the Frank of old to return, and have him hitting homers and drawing walks. I'm not completely sold we'll be getting the Big Hurt though. His injury is something that can really hurt a player's hitting ability. I agree that you can't rely on one person to be the savior of your offense. I think Uribe and Crede are a combined 10 for their last 95 or something ridiculous like that. I can't honestly think things will stay the rest of the way. Everett has been killing some balls but just hitting them right at people. Dye has been a dissapointment all year. I'm sure Kenny Williams knows whats going on and is going to get a bat to help this team at some point. He isn't going to let all of his offseason moves and this teams early success go to waste because a few guys can't hit. So like I said, settle down, it'll be alright.

QUOTE(nvxplorer @ May 27, 2005 -> 04:47 AM) Farmer described the home run pitch as down and in. Was it really a mistake by Contreras, or did that guy just go out and get it? This was just one of those weird games. Iguchi getting thrown out at the plate. The other play at the plate (third actually, but you know what I mean). I'm not down on the team. Two out of three in Anaheim is a moral victory at least. Cotts looked good. The Angels pitching is very good. The Sox will score plenty in Texas. It was a 4-seamer that caught too much of the plate. It was just the wrong spot to throw that pitch. He had a base open and a righty on deck, he should have thrown him nothing but junk. And yes I agree, things like this tend to happen to us on the west coast, it's no big deal for me, I'll take a split at Anaheim anytime.

QUOTE(fathom @ May 27, 2005 -> 04:45 AM) When it gets warmer out, the ball will be flying out of the Cell. If we don't pick up our offense, our pitching is going to have a hard time single-handedly winning games like they have been. And when it gets warmer out we'll have #35 back in the lineup to give the offense a much needed boost.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ May 27, 2005 -> 04:44 AM) It's just a product of how s***ty this offense is. The offense isn't performing right now, thats true but things will turn around. And again, our team isn't built around our offense, its built around pitching and defense.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ May 27, 2005 -> 04:40 AM) I would agree with that if we were 162 games into the season. It's gotten to the point where our pitchers have to almost be perfect in order for us to be in control of a game. I wouldn't go that far. Our style of play demands solid pitching, and like it or not we aren't going to be blowing many teams out, we are going to win a lot of close games, that is just a product of how this team plays baseball.

Did Ozzie call the pitch to McPherson?
valponick replied to DonkeyKongerko's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ May 27, 2005 -> 04:39 AM) Now I'm not usually in to second guessing, but it looks really bad when your manager goes out to the mound and a go-ahead homerun is promptly served up. Ozzie appeared to be cursing more than normal in the dugout after that one. I only hope if he did call it, he will let A.J. call the pitches from now on. If A.J. called it, then he made a mistake. I'm actually guessing the opposite, he probably told him not to throw him anything good to hit. Contreras must have interpreted that as throw him a fastball right over the heart of the plate. He should have been throwing nothing but junk to him, he had a base open and a righty on deck. -
QUOTE(fathom @ May 27, 2005 -> 04:37 AM) But...but...but...we're in first place. f*** that argument. There need to be changes made, and fast. Settle down. No matter how you look at things if you're in first place you shouldn't be complaining.

QUOTE(Southside hitmen @ May 23, 2005 -> 03:22 PM) My friend who is a huge Rangers fan came up with a trade The Sox would send Aaron Rowand, Joe Crede and B Mac for Mark Teixeira and Hank Blalock This is completely asanine.
