  1. By all means, they should be patient with Giolito. It's fine, Lopez is a beast
  2. QUOTE (GermanSock @ Mar 14, 2017 -> 10:07 PM) I think the velocity will come back. What I'm concerned about more is the reports on the low spin rate (little movement) on the fastball. Even when he was hitting 94 his swinging strike rates were not great. Not sure what do make out of this. Maybe he should add another pitch that is less dependent on spin (sinker), I don't know. If his command was better the straight fastball would be less of an issue (I think kershaws 4 seamer is also pretty straight) but if your heater is straight and not located well it is going to get hammered even at 94 (maybe he would get away with it at 100). He gets this year in AAA to see if what he has works. If not, I agree you see if he can become a sinkerballer. Being a power pitcher with his lack of spin rate on his fastball won't work if his velocity remains in low 90s
  3. 30 pitches, no swinging strikes. Anyone ranking him over Kopech is insane
  4. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 14, 2017 -> 09:35 PM) I haven't watched any of ST but hasn't Gio's fastball been fine up until today? Not getting much, if any, swings and misses on it from what I have seen this spring. His strikeouts were called looking in the game I saw
  5. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 14, 2017 -> 09:30 PM) Giolito looks awful. Yes haven't been impressed by him this spring. Looks the same as last year
  6. He's going to get hammered in the majors with this type of velocity
  7. Very puzzling what has happened to Giolito's fastball. Looks to be sitting around 91.5-92. Gets so few swings and misses on his fastball
  8. I still question if Keatts's tenure at Louisville will pass a background check. Scared off at least one team last year
  9. QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 04:24 AM) Dudes looked lost at the plate this spring. He tries to be too patient at the plate and ends up only getting a swing or two every at bat to put the ball in play. I'm hopeful it will improve but this spring has definitely shown his two main warts (k and fielding)
  10. QUOTE (Tony @ Mar 12, 2017 -> 09:09 PM) It sounds and looks VERY different than what we are used to. Basically every hitter was late on his fastball. His command was impressive
  11. Sox base running has been beyond bad this spring
  12. Having Hosmer bat for Goldschmidt is comical
  13. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 11, 2017 -> 02:16 AM) I wanna trade Q as much as the next guy but f*** it'd hurt so bad to see him go, maybe even more then Sale, dude is nails. Him and Buehrle easily two most likable Sox pitchers in a long time
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 11, 2017 -> 12:46 AM) In true Q fashion this will be a ND Yep
  15. In true Q fashion this will be a ND
  16. Funny thing is Q just did more to raise his stock with your typical baseball fan than he has during his whole career
  17. Doesn't seem to have much on his fastball
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 08:22 PM) I want to say he was making something like 250 or 300k at Valpo. He was getting paid less than a lot of assistant coaches at big schools. Sorry changed it to Vandy
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 07:16 PM) Bryce isn't about the money. If he was, he would have ditched Valpo years before. There weren't many jobs he would have left Valpo for, but academics really is important to him, as well as religion. If he leaves for another job, I would imagine it would be something like Stanford, and not Illinois. The dude isn't a job chaser. He did use GT last year to get more money from Vandy. Numerous GT sources say he gave GT his word he was coming there and had already contacted potential assistants
  20. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 07:14 PM) Really? Didn't he take Valpo to like 4 straight tournaments? Supposed to really struggle at recruiting
  21. Bryce isn't going anywhere. Not overly impressed by him anyways
