  1. White Sox have Carlos Rodon pitching on Friday vs Houston, as Brady Aiken recovers from Tommy John Surgery
  2. QUOTE (onedude @ May 26, 2015 -> 10:36 PM) After today's game 4-for-14 Assuming we get 4 base runners?
  3. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 26, 2015 -> 09:27 PM) You're trying to create a narrative. Resigning your own players and one big acquisition isn't looked at as a "big offseason" by the industry. The Sox have nothing to compare with this past offseason really. '04-'05 brought in a big influx of players but it was veteran scrap heap pick ups and moving on from very productive hitters in Maggs/Lee. These are unchartered territories for the Sox. Sure seemed like a huge few days at the time. Those "All In" billboards were up in no time.
  4. QUOTE (gatnom @ May 26, 2015 -> 09:24 PM) If you want to sustain bandwagon fans, you need to keep winning. If you win enough, some of them will become legitimate long term fans. Also doesn't hurt KC's attendance when they win their first 7 games and get the fans to buy in that they'll be good again this year.
  5. My fault, it's Thursday. Can a mod change the title please? Also, Rodon going on Friday in Houston.
  6. Dan Hayes @CSNHayes · 3m 3 minutes ago Chris Beck will start Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader. #WhiteSox
  7. QUOTE (LDF @ May 26, 2015 -> 10:10 PM) you do have a great point. i esp was spouting on Volquez. but the other part is the abysmal beginning this team had. i am trying to think this out, if the sox had picked up a pitcher, Volq and a cat, could this team have started out differently??? i hate to say this, and its not b/c i want to pounce on him..... it goes to RV and the FO and how much they had in this recipe. Hard to tell, right now it's just a worst case scenario in basically every aspect. Every possible question mark coming into the season has been a negative: - Abreu avoiding soph slump - LaRoche/Alexei avoiding history of bad starts - any question marks about Melky hitting without help - Johnson's defense at 2nd - Sanchez not being able to hit enough - Conor's defense - weak catching tandem - 4th/5th starters (Danks/Noesi)
  8. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 26, 2015 -> 10:10 PM) You're not wrong about the 1-3 starters. Our defense surely isn't helping. They're all out FIPing their ERAs though so I I am not sure how much it's their ability. Sale - ERA 4.21, FIP 3.49, FIPx 3.35. Samardzija - ERA 4.38, FIP 3.72, FIPx 3.84 Quintana - ERA 4.67, FIP 3.38, FIPx 3.73 Defense has been killing the ERA of the pitchers, as there have been just an insane amount of plays that haven't gone as errors that have resulted in big innings for the opposition. Last night's first inning might be the best example of this that you'll ever see.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 26, 2015 -> 10:08 PM) It did, because I keep getting told that it isn't about one appearance, it is about multiple appearances. because the Sox have gotten to the playoffs, and had attedance fall. For KC, I wonder if it has to do with the chase to get back so they can close the deal this year? They were so close last season, they clearly have left their fans wanting more.
  10. QUOTE (LDF @ May 26, 2015 -> 10:04 PM) i personally think that there is one sentence that has not been mention, i think. the fans frustration for the sox FO for not finishing off the job. i really think many fans, without really knowing it, are more upset at that, b/c many saw the rebuild of the team. with the way the team started and with Sale being hurt. is it the FO responsibility for not obtaining more pieces? Hahn could have added Russell Martin and Volquez to this team, and they'd still be mediocre at this point. No way anyone could have imagined about 85% of the roster underachieving at this point.
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 26, 2015 -> 07:58 PM) If the front office doesn't get the Bulls a solid back-up, ball distributing point guard who could start in a pinch, then this off-season would be a failure. In fact, I would expect a healthy Rose to get plenty of minutes next to someone who can ease his load and be a primary point guard at times. It is a huge need. There is a time and a place for guys like Aaron Brooks but their is also a time and a place for a real point guard and with Rose's health issues we need that. If we had a decent, league average distributing PG (or even slightly below league average), then I still think this team is a 2nd round playoff team without Rose. Is there any chance the Bulls could bring in J. Jack as a back-up pg? Always thought he'd be a great back-up to Rose, as he's good enough to start when Rose deals with his injuries but not one of these gunners like Brooks or Nate Robinson.
  12. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 26, 2015 -> 09:59 PM) The Sox didn't do much in 2011 other than Dunn so I am not sure what this other big offseason is but "selling offseasons" does seem have to caught some momentum amongst Sox fan gripes. I still don't know the offseason that has been the problem this year. It's been 2B, 3B, C, SP4 and SP5 along with a lot of established players unexpectedly underperforming. The "All In" marketing after they signed or re-signed Dunn, AJP and Konerko in 2011. That was the most similar offseason to what we just saw. The thing is, I completely agree with the hyping the Marketing Dept. did. Problem going forward is that now that the fans have been burned twice believing they were going to see massive improvements on the field, will they be as likely to fall for it again?
  13. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 26, 2015 -> 09:43 PM) Looks like we are just not a good team +1000 With Avi out, there's no bridge from the more talented players at the top of the order to the mediocrity at the bottom.
  14. To me, the first half of 2006 was more exciting than anything during the 2005 regular season. That was the most talented team I've ever seen in a White Sox jersey. Even the first month of last year started generating a buzz with Abreu performing like the best hitter on the planet. Remember Comcast having a special on "Abreu's April"? Abreu made the Sox a must-watch for me during the first few months of last year. I'm struggling watching entire Sox games now, so I can't imagine how casual fans feel about spending 3 hours watching a team that has to be one of the most boring teams in all of baseball.
  15. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 26, 2015 -> 09:32 PM) Danks is just about average for a starter in terms of K% this year and in his career. I think it has more to do with Gillaspie's plantar fasciitis. Not there is many turf parks left , I think it's just TOR and TB now, Toronto's turf is very strange. Yep, I believe Baltimore almost refused to play on it earlier in the year.
  16. QUOTE (chw42 @ May 26, 2015 -> 09:27 PM) This team simply sucks to watch. Nothing's more boring than offense that labors to score 3 runs. It doesn't help that our defense screws our pitching over more often than not. This is the worst 3 year stretch for the Sox since the last 80s (87-89). The fan base is going to continue to decrease until the organization turns it around. This is the 2nd time in 5 years that the organization hyped up their offseason acquisitions, only to see them fail almost immediately.
  17. I'm going to assume Gillaspie is hurting (or they're worried the turf will hurt his foot), or else it makes no sense to not get his bat into the lineup. He has an OPS of .845 this month.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 26, 2015 -> 02:13 PM) I'd really love to know what is going on this year with first inning pitching. We have some damned good pitchers who are just awful this year to start games, and I don't remember this being an issue in years past. I wouldn't think it would be warm up routine, because why would that have changed? Would the bullpen mound have changed? Grasping at straws here. Samardzija's a bit like Verlander where he gains significant velocity as the game goes on. A few times this year, he got burned on 91-92 mph fastballs in the first inning.
  19. It sure seems like the Sox have hit relief pitchers better than starting pitchers this year.
  20. Bring back Rowand!
  21. Put LaRoche 2nd and hope he can walk a few times in front of Abreu. Moving Abreu to 4th yet keeping Melky in front of him is the same recipe we have seen all year.
  22. 2 non-infield hits tonight. Worst offensive effort of the season by far. Season is in critical status right now.
  23. Stone going off on the defense
  24. This team's plate discipline and pitch recognition is embarrassing.

QUOTE (bulokis @ May 26, 2015 -> 12:45 AM) If this road trip goes awful which is highly likely, is it time to give up? Fire RV? Think about selling? Everything should be on the table if they win 2 or 3 games
