  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 19, 2013 -> 01:40 AM) Yeah, I don't think things like this actually happen. I think the Sox are probably going to hold onto De Aza for at least another year, but they're not keeping him in CF just to "Showcase him". At the very least if they were doing that, they wouldn't keep moving him to LF every time Danks comes into the game. I'm not saying I think that's what is happening, but I do think it's weird they moved Garcia from CF to RF so early after nothing bad happened with him out there.
  2. Dempster just made himself a lot of fans tonight
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 18, 2013 -> 11:32 PM) I'm wondering if they just don't want to make that change mid-season and might give it a shot in the spring Or if they're showcasing De Aza in CF for the rest of the year with the thought process he'll be traded this offseason?
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 19, 2013 -> 12:28 AM) If Phegley has that low of a ceiling then I still don't know how he was able to destroy charlotte and I don't know why everyone was so desperate to call him up as the next hero. Because no one wanted to watch Tyler Flowers play 5 games a week anymore And speaking of Abreu, I saw where the Pirates have been rumored to be interested in him (mlbtraderumors). If the White Sox don't get him, I hope it's Pittsburgh that gets him.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 19, 2013 -> 12:25 AM) After the Garcia deal, I don't think I agree with this any more. The only guy with a really low ceiling is Gillaspie, but he's tolerable for now. Everyone else has a ceiling of a solid/above average player with several guys who could turn into all stars if people can get through to them. The one position where we don't even have that though is 1b. We've got jack squat there for years now unless we sign someone. Phegley has a pretty low ceiling as well, IMO (and the initial question included JorDanks in it, who profiles as nothing better than a 4th OF). Now, if they go and get someone like Abreu, that solves a lot of issues if he ends up being a good hitter. The thing is, I don't see why everyone just doesn't root for games where the young players perform well, and then organizational fillers like Axelrod or Troncoso blow the game.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 19, 2013 -> 12:19 AM) A guy like Rodon doesn't solve any of our biggest problems. We lose games 2-1 and 3-2 just fine. The more talent they add, the easier it is to survive trading someone like Quintana for a corner infielder.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 19, 2013 -> 12:08 AM) Guys playing up to their potential would be even better than waiting 3-5 years for someone to get here. But the ceiling for a lot of the guys currently on the Sox is pretty low. And in today's baseball, most high draft picks make the majors a lot quicker than most on here seem to suggest. Someone like Rodon won't spend more than a full year in the minors.
  8. There have been plenty of games of late where the young guys played well and they still managed to lose. Anything outside of a top 3 pick would be a huge disappointment. This team needs more talent, plain and simple.
  9. QUOTE (beautox @ Aug 18, 2013 -> 10:21 PM) I'm simply saying that yes he is talented and young but he is a luxury on this team, especially because he could go to a team looking to contend for a world series title and bring the sox back a nice haul similar to what Boston gave up in acquiring Bailey(Reddick) and Melancon(Lowrie). or Nestor Molina
  10. Tim Anderson's seemingly doing a much better job on defense, as it's been a while since he made an error.
  11. Hector's thrown a lot of stressful pitches today, no reason for him to still be in the game at 111 pitches.
  12. Hopefully we get to see Petricka today
  13. Hawk and Wimpy is such a better broadcast than Hawk and Stone
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 18, 2013 -> 07:47 PM) Another 2b for Garcia.
  15. Great opposite field swing by Garcia!
  16. Free Axelrod!
  17. Good to hear Petricka will get a shot, even though Troncoso's contributions of late have been significant.
  18. Garcia could become a really good hitter if he starts trying to pull the inside fastball.
  19. another K for Jacobs....at least Thornton has been a non-factor for the Red Sox
  20. Grand slam for Engel
  21. Something I'm sure Garcia will learn over time is that he doesn't need to chase tough offspeed pitches on the first pitch of the AB. With that said, he's shown more positives than negatives so far.
  22. 0-7 with 6 combined for Thompson/Jacobs in their game today. 19K in last 31 ABs for Jacobs
  23. Nice to see Anderson get on the board with the long ball. Jacob May continues to be productive as well.
  24. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 16, 2013 -> 09:22 PM) Arrieta throwing 97 It looks like they simplified his mechanics a bit. I still can't believe they got two power arms in return for Feldman, someone that everyone knew would suck back in the AL.
  25. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 16, 2013 -> 03:00 AM) It's really perfect. Good starting pitching and bad releivers blow it. Yep, hopefully Beckham's ok. Garcia looked decent tonight at the plate
