QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 18, 2012 -> 08:05 PM) Notre Dame was 4th on one coach's ballot. I'm willing to bet that coach won't have the balls to do that in two weeks when the votes get made public. That's pathetic

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 18, 2012 -> 08:02 PM) But why didn't Oregon's amazing unstoppable offense have them ahead by 30 points when that play happened? I don't understand . . . Oregon's defense looked pretty good though

QUOTE (kev211 @ Nov 18, 2012 -> 07:09 PM) Yeah when they play teams like Western Kentucky, Florida Atlantic, and Western Carolina that's easy. They scored 41 against Michigan, who has one of the better defenses in the country. I don't think the Alabama offense is explosive, but it's not Florida-esque.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Nov 18, 2012 -> 05:51 AM) I hate this argument. It's simply not true. Last year LSU and Bama played in the regular season and it had absolutely zero implications on the national title. One-loss teams are national champs frequently. We've seen two-loss champs (LSU 07). Bama lost at home and Georgia lost by 28 to South Carolina and both of those teams control their destiny to enter the national title game. Those losses mean virtually nothing right now. So don't give me every single game matters and that would disappear in a playoff. There's room for error now and there will be room for error then. Instead of seeing two spots everyone is trying to grab for, you'll see 4 or 8 and more teams will be more interested in a lot of games nationally down the stretch. Add me to the side of wanting a playoff.

QUOTE (kev211 @ Nov 18, 2012 -> 04:45 AM) I'm thinking Oregon should fall back to 4. So if ND loses Oregon will be able to sneak back in after the SEC Championship. Oregon has two tough games coming up, including facing UCLA who's playing pretty damn good.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 18, 2012 -> 05:44 AM) If USC beats Notre Dame, I sure as hell hope we don't get a SEC vs. SEC final! Great chance of Alabama/Florida. However, with Barkley's injury, ND seems to be in a good spot against an imploding USC team.

Congrats ND fans. SEC with a huge night. De'anthony Thomas with the bonehead play of the year forgetting to block the defender on Mariota's long run.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 18, 2012 -> 02:45 AM) BLake Griffins game also in the ugly category. He gets it done but it ain't pretty I'm his biggest fan, but there's no rhythm to his game. I'm surprised he's not a better rebounder, as he was just amazing on the boards at Oklahoma.

So Matt Barkley got injured at the end of the USC/UCLA game. Looks like a shoulder injury.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 16, 2012 -> 08:37 PM) Matt Lottich? That name sounds familiar, wasn't he like a 3-sport superstar? New Trier was it? Yep, had a very good career at Stanford.

QUOTE (farmteam @ Nov 16, 2012 -> 09:30 PM) IIRC, when Matt Lottich went to Stanford in 2000, I heard he had a 26 on the ACT. Basically, they just want you to show that you're reasonably intelligent, but you don't have to be up to their regular admission standards. I know their current star, Dwight Powell, waited until he was accepted their before choosing them.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 16, 2012 -> 09:10 PM) I can buy this argument this week...but in three weeks, if Oregon is still undefeated, I highly doubt it. Agreed, if someone wants to argue that ND's accomplishments with their schedule have been more impressive so far than Oregon, that's fine. However, if Oregon wins their next 3 games, there's no chance Oregon won't end up higher than ND in the BCS. Oregon doesn't even have to win in impressive fashion, and they'll be in the BCS Title Game if they finish undefeated.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 16, 2012 -> 09:03 PM) I've watched all 3 teams play. I'd put KSU slightly ahead of ND and both of them quite a bit ahead of Oregon. Their defense is terrible. And yes, it has everything to do with pre-season rankings this late in the season. Go back to previous years and look at how the rankings of undefeated teams in week 9-10 compares to their preseason rankings. Oregon's defense isn't great, but it's not terrible. They've held their 7 of their 9 opponents (not including Tn Tech) to below their season average in points. The only truly bad game they had on defense was against USC. I also wonder how many of the points they've allowed this year came against their starting defense, as they've played their second stringers so often in the second half of games. Also, quick math shows me that the average scoring offense Kansas State has faced this year is 51.6 in the rankings, and Notre Dame's is 69.5.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 16, 2012 -> 07:04 PM) I don't think Duke is anywhere near as strict about admissions as Stanford and ND, and I think NW is even stricter than all of them. Yep, if you qualify for collegiate sports, Duke will take you.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 16, 2012 -> 07:02 PM) The admissions thing only goes so far. Duke, Stanford, and Notre Dame do just fine. Stanford is the hardest to get into for an athlete, as you have to be admitted there as a regular student I believe. Not sure if that's changed the last few years.

Also doesn't help they wasted so much money on such a mediocre coach in Purnell.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 16, 2012 -> 03:38 PM) Notre Dame was ahead 20-13 with 5 minutes left in the game. They scored with 5:05 left on the clock. Those 5 seconds clearly change the perception on how close the game was Hickory, no one is saying it wasn't a big time win for ND. Easily one of the ten best wins that any team has this season.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 16, 2012 -> 01:43 PM) ND didn't struggle against the best team on their schedule. The Oklahoma game wasn't close. How is that less indicative of how they would fare against KSU than their 3-point win over Purdue? You're cherry-picking results to support your hatred of ND. The Oklahoma game was tied with 5 minutes left in the game.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 15, 2012 -> 10:04 PM) Well, last year ND's SOS wasn't very relevant, and the MAC teams winning all those games aren't getting on the schedules of Top 25 teams. If NIU calls up Alabama, Alabama hangs up on them and calls back Akron instead. NIU played Alabama about 10 years ago

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 15, 2012 -> 09:03 PM) Because after next weekend, neither team will have played Texas, and ND's SOS will still be ahead of KSU even if USC loses to UCLA, but not by as much. Forgot KSU wasn't playing next week (you could have just said they were off right away ). However, it would still mean after the regular season, K St. is very likely to have a higher SOS.
