  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 03:49 AM) Hilarious. Twins, who swept KC in 4 game series in KC, now are leading KC 8-3 late. The Twins, folks, know how to win the division. They feast on Sox and Royals. You wait, it'll be a 4 game sweep this weekend. For some reason, Sox don't emphasize divisional games enough. How else can you explain our s***tiness. We're too cool to get down and dirty vs. the 'inferior' Central teams. I'm beginning to buy into the theory that our divisional opponents have great scouting reports against us, and with our hitters being overly aggressive, it plays right into the scouting report.
  2. The GT sanctions are a crock of s***. All over 312 dollars worth of clothes that they couldn't even prove were provided by a street runner.
  3. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 06:20 PM) Based on KW's comments in the Sun-Times this morning, I see no changes coming. He hinted at maybe trying to get a player but actually said he liked the way Ozzie is managing these guys. I don't think any big change is coming. The fact that Walker still has a job, though, is amazing. Even the most die-hard supporters of him over the years here have turned on him this year. Yeah, it may not fix every thing but it would do something that the organization seems loathe to do: send a SIGNAL. Although, I wonder how many more games with half-empty attendance will be tolerated before something is done. It's become obvious to me, in my opinion, that the Sox going 3-7 out of the ASB might be the best thing for this organization. It would force KW to go into sell mode.
  4. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 05:19 PM) Cotts was lucky that year, but he wasn't THAT lucky. He still had a 2.95 FIP, which is pretty damn good. Politte was lucky as hell. 3.75 FIP. Both had low as hell BABIPs and very high strand rates (especially Politte). Those two are the perfect example of relievers riding a luck streak for a whole season and then falling apart in later seasons. You can't outrun your true talent forever. I'm not saying Cotts got lucky with a lot of hard hit balls at defenders (that would have been Hermanson). Rather, I can't believe a lefty who throws 91 mph high fastballs nearly every pitch only allowed one homer all year.
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 12:33 PM) I caught the last 3 innings, a few observations that no one will care about: -In that 8th inning, you could see the wheels already coming off on Politte/Cotts. How the hell did the Sox get sub-2.00 ERA seasons out of those two jokers? -Juan. Uribe. I forgot about that great play to end the 8th as well. -I think he had the Tommy John, but Brandon Backe really fell off the radar quickly. I thought he'd be a solid starter for a while, had some great playoff performances. Some great observations here hurt, especially the second point. That was a gigantic play by Uribe, even more important than the final out of the game. As for Cotts, I still say he had the luckiest season I can ever recall. Case in point, the strike out in game 1 against Ensberg. I'm still not sure how he missed that final pitch.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 02:29 PM) And some people don't care near enough. Who would you say had good/bad AAA stats that didn't receive enough analysis on here? I watched the AAA All-Star Game last night, and was shocked at how awful the players in it were.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 02:25 PM) I assume the reaction to this will be half people angry about him still being unable to pitch, the same half also saying that they were right about the Sox having overworked him, and then the remainder of the board trying and failing to point out the contradiction? It's a smart move. I don't fault Peavy at all for what's happened the last month, and you can tell he basically admitted last week that they need to slow it down with him.
  8. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 11:39 PM) With Pierre done after this season, Morel not showing many signs of improvement, and the lack of any real lead off hitter in the organization, if the Mariners were to eat a large portion of Figgins contract, I see Williams regrettably jumping all over it. I'm not sure, he's pretty close to being out of baseball. But you're so right. I'm still waiting for the Rios for Rowand deal.
  9. As we've seen over the last 5 years or so, Kenny usually ends up acquiring players that he's been linked to in the past. With that said, who are some of these players that he's been linked to that are still in the majors (and weren't members of the Cleveland Indians of the 1990s)? Players I can recall are: - Hunter Pence (almost got him in a deal for Garland) - Adrian Gonzalez (yeah...that's not going to happen) - Brett Wallace (KW loved him in the Gordon Beckham draft) - Gio Gonzalez (what's one more trade) - Carlos Gomez (I still think he'll be acquiring by Sox in next year or so) - Torii Hunter - Chone Figgins - Erik Bedard - Michael Young
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 10:59 PM) Well, those Ozzie offensive statistics were also put up in a totally different era. And, the Old Comiskey Park was not exactly "Home Run Central," not that Ozzie ever was a power hitter. He's one of those players who would have fit in any era...and certainly in the first 5-7 years, he had the added dimension of hitting for more triples and piling up some decent stolen base numbers. Much like Juan Pierre, I'm sure hitting in a big park benefitted Ozzie more than hitting at the Cell with the narrow gaps and outfielders that can play shallow.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 11:01 PM) That's the problem with our organization. Why wait and see what happens the next 10 days? Why not be proactive? Guys, this team is not going to suddenly become good on the offensive end. No way. There's really no way to say that with 100% confidence. I would say this team has a better chance of a drastic offensive improvement in the 2nd half of the season than any Sox team I can recall.
  12. QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 11:01 PM) Some interesting comments on here. For those of you that asked why Quentin is involved in this you should understand that I am not suggesting anything. What gave me this idea was looking at the AAA stats and seeing that Viciedo, Milledge and De Aza are all mashing right now and playing well. Then, I saw Danks who is not hitting as well but better and he is clearly the best defensive OFer in Charlotte and maybe in Chicago. So, the idea came, what if we had these 4 in Chicago right now? Assuming Danks would play CF regularly because he couldn't be platooned with Milledge or Viciedo (maybe Lillibridge) and De Aza would be the regular RFer with Milledge and Viciedo splitting LF and DH. My thinking is that Danks probably wouldn't produce even Rios numbers offensively and Rios does have the potential for a lot more. I have a feeling that De Aza would do pretty well right now if brought up and his production only exceeded by Quentin. However, he would be a good threat on the bases. Milledge's bat might surprise some. I guess my point is that the Sox probably wouldn't lose much if they changed out these 4 right now which is sad considering the salaries involved. To be honest, people care way too much about AAA stats on here.
  13. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 09:58 PM) Like previously said, the "hate" referred to when talking about Jordan Danks is the fact that right now he's nothing but a good defender up to AAA standards. Remember Brian Anderson? That's all he is right now. Therefore, it's laughable that he's even in this poll as an option to bring up and "help" a major league baseball team. From people I've talked to in the past, they've seen Danks' swing and don't think he'll have a prayer against MLB competition.
  14. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 11:46 PM) I don't see that at all, but I do think Juan Pierre, who to his credit is a hardworking guy, might be someone another contender might take from us. What we would get back is questionable, but it would open a spot for Viciedo. I still hold on to the idea of Viciedo and Quentin in the corner spots. Plus apprently AL players see a real positive in CQ as they put him on the all-star team. I like CQ a lot too. He hustles all the time and when hot can carry a team. A bit steaky but a lot of power hitters are You really think teams care about that to bring in a very below average player?
  15. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 10:13 PM) Maybe so on a bad deal for Beltran. It is getting intersting over there with the Mets and possible trades though. Beltran has been mentioned. Rios has fallen out of favor with a lot of our fans and maybe with management and we might need a new CF'er. Am I correct in thinking that Rios makes more than Beltran? I am sure the Mets wouldn't do that kind of swap would they? Crazy stuff Why in the heck would the Mets want to take on payroll while bringing in a worse player than Beltran? MLBTR saying today that Mets are looking for a big time prospect in return for Beltran and cash.
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 07:15 PM) The Mets basically just saved themselves the option. The two players they are getting arent anything. It's really a fantastic trade for Milwaukee as long as they don't let his option kick in.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 12:15 PM) one thing is for damn sure, Punk is going to OWN the allstate arena next week Got my tickets today, looking forward to that last match as much as any match I've attended live. I do love the references to Punk riding down on the side of Cena's car back in 2006 at WM.
  18. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 07:13 PM) They could probably get something better than Jackson for him, right? Atlanta seems to be a significantly better trade partner for Rasmus. However, if you can trade Danks for Rasmus and Quentin for Beachy, then sign me up.
  19. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 03:47 PM) no question about it. expecting him to be better than Carlos is asking a lot. wanting to replace Carlos with Dayan doesn't make us any better Yep, if you actually want to contend next year, I really hope our outfield is Quentin/Rios/Viciedo.
  20. I'd take Viciedo over anyone else in our outfield besides Quentin.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 04:02 PM) The fact that they're both 1.5 away from Free Agency seems to make that very unlikely. But it's Kenny Williams, and he tried to get Sanchez when he offered Crede to the Giants.
  22. QUOTE (The Baconator @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 04:00 PM) Yep, I know we've seen the Phillies have have been looking for a RH power-hitter in the outfield for the better part of the season now. Phillies have some strong pitching prospects on their Clearwater team.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 02:59 PM) Both of those teams make a ton of sense as well. As does KW's reply. I fear a Quentin for J. Sanchez trade
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 02:51 PM) There's an emotional connection there though since part of Rongey's job is to toe the company line, even if he personally doesn't make the choices. I think it has more to do with Rongey seemingly always supporting anything and everything Ozzie and the Sox do, and when someone disagrees with him, he acts in a condescending way. It is what it is...he's a host and not a baseball expert, no big deal.
  25. The Cano story was enjoyable to watch last night, especially for anyone with a son. As for the celebrity game, I can't believe how bad the production of that was from ESPN.
