QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 10:15 PM) Which is why you had a 6th starter who was right where he belonged in AAA and who was deserving of a callup whenever a spot opened up. You just had to put yourself in a position where if he acted like a rookie pitcher and had some ups and downs you could hit your way through them. And you had to put yourself in a position where you didn't have a gaping hole that you'd need to fill by trading that pitcher. Exactly, we totally agree on this.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 10:13 PM) BTW, Scotty Pods just hit his 2nd homer of the day. His season is putting Pierre's to shreds. Maybe I should bring up Pods every Pierre AB?

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 10:11 PM) To be fair, you can't foresee the Peavy injury. That's screwed everything up. True, but there question marks about the health of everyone in the starting rotation coming into ST. It was pretty obvious that one of them would go to the DL during the season. We're damn lucky it's only been one.

Sox would have been better if Beckham just didn't show up today.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 11:06 PM) Really, it's not possible. The right answer was to sign a legitimate DH in January instead of pretending that Kotsay would somehow hit .290 again. Once you make that mistake, you're screwed. Trading Hudson would have been a bad idea if Peavy had stayed healthy; we're really going to need another starting pitcher next year and we won't have the money for it. This is such a great post...and it's the reason that I was so frustrated when people before the season were saying how easy it would be to upgrade the offense during the season if the DH-by-committee failed.

QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 11:05 PM) He does have 3 quality pitches. He just looks like he's pressing and as a result failing to execute. Same reason his control has gone to hell after getting called up. I hope he can settle in quickly. Not sure how much longer we can settle for these types of performances while he gets MLB 'experience'. If we weren't in a race, we could put up with it but... So where's his slider?

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 11:04 PM) Nobody would be saying a thing if not for Peavy being out. There's more pressure on him because of that. I really don't know how the hell KW is going to be able to fix the offense and even somewhat cover up the massive hole that losing Peavy has created. Add Luke Scott and another long man

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 10:02 PM) '06? Did we win that? Previous last games of the series I remember there are Koch blowing a game, the 2005 Dye at SS game, and then last year's Ellis walkoff.

Jeez, the two worst games we've had in 2 months. I can't remember the last time we won the last game of a series at Oakland.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 10:56 PM) Ok, at least 1 of those was against King Felix, so let's just write that one off, that was going to happen anyway. So it's going to be 4 of 5 games then?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 10:51 PM) He's doing that because our hitters have tipped their caps. He made the real point that inning too...where he pointed out that Braden hasn't gotten a curveball over all day. 4 hits or less for our hitters against the starting pitcher in 3 of the last 4 games.

QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 10:51 PM) Phillies fired they're hitting coach, why can't we? You don't like Walker saying that if Braden keeps the change-up low, the Sox will lose? Alexei and Konerko had a great approach in the first, but since then, all we see is hitter after hitter pulling off the change-up.

Quentin trying to pull EVERYTHING up at the plate, making him an easy out today. Hawk's in "tip your cap" mode.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 10:46 PM) Braden is a spaz. yes he is...it's an upset he's a baseball player and not in jail (I mean that complimentary).

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 10:42 PM) Oh come on guys...let's face it, we probably should have gone 6-4 on this trip and I would have been fine with that. These last two games have been frustrating, but this trip hasn't been as bad as the record indicates. It's not the record that's frightening, it's that the guys who were carrying this offense when we were hot (Konerko/Rios/Quentin) have really slowed down. However, we know those guys are much better at the Cell, so that's why the next 7 games are so critical.

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 10:41 PM) Twins don't have better pitching than us, starters or BP, even without Peavy, IMO, so I still believe we are the favorites. Their O could be much better but we're slowly turning the corner there despite our joke of a situation at DH With the Twins finally getting rid of Blackburn, and coupled with the Sox losing Peavy, it feels like we lost the big advantage we had with regards to the starting rotation. Pavano and Liriano are matching Danks/Floyd these days.

Zombieland was extremely entertaining. Woody Harrelson was fantastic in that movie.

QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 10:38 PM) lucky for us the tigers suck or we would be in 3rd by then tigers are done with...I'd say Twins are 50 pct likely to win ALC, Sox 40, and Tigers 10

I've heard more about Bert Campaneris today than I have anyone playing in this game. With that said, nice change-up by Hudson.

QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 10:31 PM) and tomorrow we get felix again so a danks 2 hitter may not be enough But you know what, this roster got us into this position, so no changes are necessary! I wonder if they'll keep saying that if the Twins pass us up before July 31st.

Lost in the Hudson disappointing performance is we're getting dominated by a pitcher who's given up a ton of hits over his last 6 starts.
