  1. Interesting stat I heard tonight. There's been 12 home runs on 3-0 counts this year, and Dunn is only person with more than one.
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 23, 2010 -> 01:22 AM) Hey Fathom, you know the Braves get to play against the s***ty NL all year long. Why is their record valid when they play them all year while ours is somehow a farse because we play them 20 games? I never said the Sox record wasn't legit. Honestly, when I said the big boy comment before, all I meant is that we're playing a team that's red hot and playing with a ton of confidence. We'll have to play better than we have been, even though the record has been great.
  3. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 23, 2010 -> 01:21 AM) 3/17 (18%) on the season. Hasn't had a bunt base hit since May 19th. We sure of that? I thought he was at that mark a few weeks ago.
  4. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 23, 2010 -> 01:18 AM) Someone needs to stop bunting. It was the hardest hit ball he's had in a week though.
  5. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 23, 2010 -> 12:13 AM) I'll blame the ump for that lol what was he doing out there ? According to the radio, he asked Danks if he knew how Chase Blackwood was doing for Bristol tonight.
  6. Well, time to gear it up for the big boys again. Terrible pitch by Danks.
  7. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 10:20 PM) Most here on Soxtalk wouldn't know a good manager if they hit them in the face. The starters, the offense, and defense have been miserable so far and people honestly think Ozzie should have them up by 5. The defense actually hasn't been miserable. I also would say that 2005 has completely blinded some people relating to Ozzie. But you know what...he can keep letting Buehrle pitch to Vernon Wells with the bases loaded in the 8th inning of a one run game as long as my 2005 CWS WS DVD keeps working!
  8. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 08:28 PM) The bad decisions are always remembered and the good ones forgotten; every time a pinch hitter succeeds or fails, every time a relief pitcher gives up runs or gives up nothing, every time a lineup is constructed one way or another, every time there's a defensive change, every stolen base or caught stealing, every hit and run , every suicide squeeze .You ( meaning all of us) question things constantly so when the Sox lose you can feel vindicated and when they win you can quietly wait for your next chance to be right. Just win baby and if you don't we got the reasons why ! Few good decisions have been mentioned here. Didn't Kotsay get a pinch hit ? Wasn't there a successful suicide squeeze? Viciedo's 1st appearance was against a leftie to make the kid have a better chance of a successful debut. Yep, nowhere in this thread did I mention that walking Dunn in the 9th was a ballsy, but very smart move by Ozzie.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 08:07 PM) OK, my bad on the why not move on. It is a thread. But you act like Oz failed the team that day and the fans. He failed nobody. The Sox got the W. There is no proof Paulie and/or Rios would have excelled. There is no proof the day off helped them excel on Sunday. The FACTS are we won both games. Oz deserves huge credit for both victories. Jake Peavy deserves credit for Saturday, end of story
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 07:54 PM) Sorry about the misspelling Sqwert but it's just a nickname. You could spell Gregg like that and I don't care. It's just taking this to a new low I feel second guessing a lineup that won the game. It's not second guessing..it was first guessing. Go back and look at the game thread!!
  11. Wow are Jurko and Harry two ugly human beings.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 07:32 PM) I need Rongey's take on this. It would probably be something like "one game doesn't make or break a season".
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 07:32 PM) It's results that matter. We won. Ozzie left Peavy in to finish it. I'm sure some would have fried Ozzie had Peavy blown it in a scary ninth. "How can he leave him in with a bad shoulder?" "What is Ozzie trying to do to Peavy?" "You've got Thornton for god sakes. Why did he leave in Peavy???" Oz gets the final laugh. He is rich and can deal with absurd second guessing after victories. My gosh. Do some realize what they sound like complaining about wins? I need Rongey's take on this. If we only criticized after a loss, you would be the first person on here saying "you guys only bash Ozzie after a loss".
  14. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 08:11 PM) Not only is Buehrle on the mound but so is Tim Hudson. Then the question becomes: how tough do you consider Dempster and Zambrano? Lerew, Bannister and Greinke? Yeah, not a chance he should be allowd to face Dempster or Greinke.
  15. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 06:19 PM) I dunno, Rios came out looking like a machine Sunday. They had 15 hits or something. I don't think they lost the positive vibes too much with that win Saturday. Well yeah, cause the horrible offense got bailed out by Peavy.
  16. Thing is, you can't play Viciedo tomorrow with Buehrle on the mound. He'll probably play Thursday against D. Lowe.
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 06:58 PM) Well, I said he did a good job on the trip, not that he was the reason they won 10 of 11. And I disagree with you as to the decision to sit Rios and PK in the same game. I think it was a calculated gamble that paid off. The reason I hated the lineup decision on Saturday is that we came off of a very inspiring win the night before beating Strasburg. You want to build on that momentum, and he put the worst lineup possible on the field. Yes, it paid off cause Peavy pitched great. However, it was the wrong decision IMO to keep the positive vibes going. He lucked out, just like how he got unlucky bringing in Thornton sooner, rather than later in the Tigers game we lost.
  18. There was good and bad for Ozzie during that series. He did a great job of walking Dunn in the 9th on Saturday. That's unconventional, as you're not supposed to intentionally walk the go-ahead run. However, Friday night with the 7th/8th inning was poor. Thornton should have faced Dunn, and to top that, Floyd should have not been allowed to hit.
  19. Ok, Gerrit Cole is sensational. 97 mph fastball on his 120th pitch, nasty 88 mph slider, an 84 mph change-up, and pretty good control.
  20. G. Cole has a great fastball, but holy crap does he work slow.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 21, 2010 -> 09:44 PM) I remember one person saying once they liked my paragraph or lack of it style. So at least one doesn't mind it. Was it Bobby Jenks?
  22. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 21, 2010 -> 10:29 PM) As far as all time, Pedro Martinez, Randy Johnson and Barry Bonds are top 3 for me, no doubt. Agreed, like him or not, watching him bat during his juiced era was amazing.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 21, 2010 -> 11:13 PM) I was listening to B&B the other day and they quickly exonerated all pitchers from being on steroids because "steroids only help you with trying to mash the ball." Not true at all. Those substances helped many pitchers in that era not only recover quickly from outings, but slow the breakdown of their shoulders over the tail end of their careers. Those guys were going out every 5th day feeling much fresher than a natural player would. Yep, HGH/steroids significantly helps your recovery time. It's a lot easier to tell with closers who were able to pitch in the upper 90s every outing as opposed to only reaching their max velocity once a week.
