  1. Of all the stuff JimH said there, I actually agree that getting guys like Konerko, Quentin, and Ramirez fewer ABs over the course of the season could really help them. Maybe we'll see more consistency during the second half of the season, something we haven't had in a decade it seemsIt's funny that it might look to some that I really wanted Thome back, which couldn't be more false. I'm more disappointed that it seems it will be harder for KW/Ozzie to bring in someone like Blalock, Branyan, or Gomes now.
  2. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jan 26, 2010 -> 03:45 AM) Guillen said the Sox haven't ruled out bringing back Thome if they have a need for a left-hander power hitter later this season if he's available. That's after saying he'd start 1-2 times a week. Mark Kotsay is officially the new Timo Perez.
  3. QUOTE (CryptviLL @ Jan 26, 2010 -> 03:39 AM) True - I mean, I'm not saying it will be perfect and dandy, but it gives us alot of options. We haven't even started spring training yet, we got alot of adequette ball players on the team, if things fail, we have enough prospects to make almost any trade we want! We have the options, let's see how it works with a more... abstract approach. Options for what? Mark Kotsay is very injury prone, so what's going to happen when he pulls a muscle? I'm sure we'll see Lillibridge back up and leading off. And we don't have many prospects at all. Compared to the big market teams that have the resources (Boston and Yankees especially), our farm system is pathetic compared to theirs.
  4. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 26, 2010 -> 02:17 AM) Kenny needs to muzzle his ass. I can't believe no one else commented on Ozzie saying he wouldn't put Omar into a blowout game because that's not fair to a future HOF.
  5. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 26, 2010 -> 03:05 AM) I didn't realize you were holding back before. I've been saying all along I thought it was 50/50 that we'd bring in another hitter. I would still love to bring in Blalock, but it seems like it was Thome or nothing. BTW, your post above this one is perfect!
  6. Am I now allowed to say that this offseason has sucked, as I'm not impressed at all with the job KW and Ozzie have done? And I'm usually pretty optimistic in the offseason, but it's ridiculous how bad our lineup is on paper.
  7. Having a better DH also slightly decreases the damage done if someone like Quentin, Rios, or Beckham struggles this season.
  8. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 11:54 PM) Yes, but Longoria, Pena, Upton and Crawford are better than nearly anything that the Sox are throwing out there this season. Don't forget what Zobrist did in the first half last year.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 10:34 PM) That makes a ton more sense. You said it well yesterday....no one is really going to choose the White Sox over the Yankees if the money is even close.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 10:25 PM) Even with KW in the GM's slot? Just league wide, midseason trades do not work out that well. There was a huge report on this at the deadline last year showing how little impact midseason trades have had in the postseason. Beltran is one of the only ones to really make a difference.
  11. How about the fact that it's important to get off to a good start based on our previous history of fading down the stretch while the Twins always play strong? We got into a hole last season with the Wise debacle, and even when we made a run, it was too hard to overcome the slow start. I keep hearing people say "we'll just acquire someone during the season if it's not working out". That rarely ever happens in a positive way.
  12. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 09:38 PM) Why would he be....although I think he should. He still thinks Wise was the right move as was Mackowiak in center. If Jones/Kotsay post s*** numbers, they trade for Dunn in June or July hopefully. For $1M, bringing in Thome is a no brainer and then you can Carlton Fisk him in June if he is sucking. There's going to be more heat on Ozzie than ever this season if we go with his "rotating DH" idea. Even KW has said it's Ozzie's call. You combine that with Thome possibly going to a Twins team that has a loaded offense, and it's going to be interesting.
  13. QUOTE (b-Rye @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 09:30 PM) Cowley says Ozzie to talk to media in a little while... might be a 'No' on Thome. Sadly, this seems like a situation where Ozzie wants to show he's smarter than everyone. I'm fine with that, as long as he's held accountable.
  14. This reminds me so much of last year. Going into season, we all knew that Wise in the leadoff/CF spot was going to be a disaster. If you go with Kotsay/Jones at DH, you deserve to get no contributions from the DH spot.
  15. It's official, Ozzie is out of his mind. He's referring to Vizquel as a Hall of Famer, so that means he won't have to get the mop-up innings that every other bencher would have to. I can't believe we have playing time reserved for Kotsay already. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,6100155.story
  16. Haha, nice throw Favre!
  17. QUOTE (quickman @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 01:58 AM) Ranger, this board has a tendancy to fall in love with players. That said, and I am by no means wanting thome back, Ozzie and KW have put themselves into this corner. They could have just cut bait and moved on. KW did not do a good job with this whole scenerio. They all like thome, he is a nice guy who does everything the whitesox want. Hire him as a bench coach after nobody picks him up. I'm more frustrated that it seems to have put the Sox in a Thome or nothing position.
  18. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 05:45 PM) And Omar Vizquel... Teahen + Vizquel + Kotsay pretty much pays for Johnson. I'd rather have Johnson than those three. I think Kenny has something up his sleeve, he usually doesn't BS like this. Good point, I'd much rather have Getz over Teahen if it meant having money to afford an actual DH.
  19. The fact we couldn't match 5.5 million in an offer for Nick Johnson pisses me off even more than we're wasting money on Mark Kotsay.
  20. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 06:24 AM) Am I the only one that's bothered that this entire board is obsessed with adding a 40-year old DH? I mean I'd like Thome back as well. But you would think we were talking about a combination of Barry Bonds, Roberto Alomar and Ken Griffey Jr. I couldn't agree more with you. It's pathetic it's even gotten to this point. I have no idea what KW and Ozzie's plan was this offseason, but if we get Thome, at least there's some hope that we might get some production from the DH spot.
  21. The funny thing is that we're trying to create at-bats for Kotsay, who will surely be injured when he's not putting up a .270 average with 10 homers over the course of a full season. I love how KW is putting Ozzie on the hot seat.
  22. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Jan 22, 2010 -> 06:53 PM) Is that before or after he hits the GW 3-run HR? You know Ozzie would intentionally walk him to get to Cuddyer....or he'll just pitch to Morneau/Mauer with an open base in front of him.
  23. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 22, 2010 -> 06:46 PM) Ugh. Ozzie, I hope you're happy when Jim Thome kills us next year. I look forward to seeing Thome swing and miss at every high fastball that is thrown to him by Thornton
  24. It would be interesting to hear Hawk talk about the Twins playing smallball when they out-homer the Sox by 50 next season.
  25. I'm very concerned that Putz is supposedly not close to being 100 percent.
