THE OFFICIAL SOXTALK 2009 MLB DRAFT THREAD
fathom replied to southsider2k5's topic in FutureSox Board
I really hope the Sox sign Thompson. One of the more intriguing picks of the decade for us. -
Maybe we'll see KW offer extensions to someone like Dye at the Sox's price, and if they don't agree to it, they'll trade them. I'd love to see Dye get a 2 yr deal and return as our DH. That way, you can go out and get a RF for next year who bats lefty.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 05:15 AM) If you ask enough scouts about anybody, no matter how good or potentially good, you'll get some negative opinions. There is a reason some teams are good and some teams are awful. You listen to B&B today about those NFL rankings from scouts? As someone brought up, they were all ex-scouts, and the rankings showed why. -

Wow, those scouts about Beckham must be watching another game. He hasn't even seen an inside fastball since he's been up, it seems. He's just getting under things and popping them up to the right side instead of driving them. -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 04:09 AM) He means getting a pile of prospects for one of our legit players via trade. Ok, even though 3 of the 4 guys he mentioned were first round picks. There is one guy on our team that would fetch a potential game-changing prospect, and it's Jenks (assuming he's healthy ) -
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 04:08 AM) Just because the Sox don't slap you in the face and tell you they are rebuilding doesn't mean it's not happening. They are just trying to be more creative than your typical team going through this process. Shame on them. Well said...the Poreda move today is a perfect example of what you're saying.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 04:07 AM) Man I hope so. I would love to get a boat load of high level prospects that have a good chance of panning out. Where is our Longoria or Utley or Pedroia or Hanley Ramirez? did you miss some of the scouts saying Beckham should turn into one of the best hitters in baseball? In 3 years, I'll be shocked if Beckham doesn't put up numbers similar or better than Pedroia. -

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 05:01 AM) right a fire sale now probably won't reap as much as you could get on July 31st... even a very good pen arm can get a decent bidding war going between two teams and you could pull out a higher level prospect I think the best bet would be trading Dotel to the Phillies. -

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 05:02 AM) But, Fathom do you really believe that is correct thinking? I don't. You can't rush these guys. Maybe that;s what we are going to see with Beckham and Poreda? They are rushed. Absolutely not, it's terrible thinking. I think we're rushing Poreda, as he'll need 100 pitches to get past the 5th. Beckham is a special situation, and I think getting used to the speed of the majors is a great experience for him. -
Sox attendance is up 2 percent so far this year. We're one of a handful of teams with a positive increase this year.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 04:55 AM) KW is delusional enough that he won't actually unload until July when he has to because the deadline is nearing anyways. He probably still thinks we're in the race. But he's going to be forced to sell off parts in July if we're out of it, and losing 4/5 to Detroit at home would go a long way towards putting us there. You know my thinking. If you're not going to end up within 5 games of the divisional lead (which means you're in it until the last week), then you might as well be out of it come the deadline. -

QUOTE (tommy @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 04:55 AM) Ozzie said he wanted to face Granderson, because he knows Polanco is their most dangerous hitter. FWIW Then where was Thornton? The Tigers had ONE lefty in their stating lineup, what were we saving him for? I guess he only pitches in 6 run games. -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 04:47 AM) There is a difference between rebuilding and just being dumb and forcing guys who aren't ready to play. That would be the latter. If we can't get Reed Johnson, I honestly believe some might start asking if Mitchell can contribute this season at the big league level. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 04:48 AM) If we lose the next 2 games, the f word (firesale) becomes a very real scenario. Yep, but it won't be done until July. No way KW starts unloading before the Cubs games. I know it came across poorly, and I do apologize...but I really do worry about the health of Jenks. It's not like Ozzie to not use him in those situations. If he didn't use him cause he knows he struggles in non-save situations, then I say good for Ozzie for finally learning. However, I don't think he's that analytical, and something has to be up. -

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 04:40 AM) If we lose those two we're 7.5 out. It's not 10, but it's far enough to know that we're not good enough to compete in even a s***ty division. And our schedule is pretty difficult with Dodgers coming up, good pitching in 6 games vs the Cubs, Reds (looks like we'll face Cueto and Harang). -

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 03:34 AM) 5.5 games out. If we lose tomorrow, and it's highly likely with Verlander pitching well and Danks struggling, then it should be time to seriously consider looking forward to next year and beyond. We aren't already? We just DL'd Colon with a fake injury so we could promote Poreda. That's a pretty good sign of things to come. Let's just make sure our two best trade chips are fine (Jenks and Dye). -

Today was a prime example of why we need to send a pitcher down and call up a lefty for the bench. There's no reason to have 3 lefties in your bullpen. I feel sorry for Ozzie that he had to use Getz to try and hit a 3 run homer. -

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 04:26 AM) Apparently Holmberg is gonna be a tough sign as well. The Holmberg pick is really making me scratch my head more and more. I think part of the reason this draft disappointed me is that we spent no money at all last offseason, so I was hoping we'd spend more during this draft. It's funny, as I don't mind the Mitchell pick and love the Thompson pick. It's the Phegley pick of the top 3 that bugs me when reviewing things. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 04:25 AM) It is a f***ing huge game. The series is tied at a game apiece, and it is the difference between being 3.5 and 5.5 games out. Why would you diminish how important tonight is??? If they finish 2 games or less out, then I hope Hawk makes a JFK style film about the play. If not, it's just another game honestly.
