Frank will break the record for saying "most definitely" more times in an hour than anyone has ever done before. Good for Frank though, and nice to see him moving on with his life.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 02:48 PM) Also Colon HAS to be going somewhere. They sure as hell won't release him or move him to the bullpen. Makes me wonder if he's involved in a trade or if someone else is leaving. I'd be disappointed if it's for Gobble, especially because I don't mind Gobble in his current role.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 02:47 PM) Poor defenders with 3 homers and 60 strikeouts hitting .238 really shouldn't be saying anything about playing time. He's still getting it. He wouldn't on most teams. Yep, between that, the retirement nonsense from 2007, and his poor attitude in AAA last season, those are some of the reasons I called him a mental midget.

TCQ update: If Sox Out of Contention, Shut-Down...Maybe

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 05:52 AM) did i miss something? When you use terms like slowly improving, etc., 24 hours before you're supposed to be activated, it makes me think that Quentin isn't comfortable yet with the injury. -
Any chance we trade Fields for Gio?

QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 01:23 PM) Is it me or does it feel like there is going to be some trades happening here really soon. Yep, and I can't wait.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 03:43 AM) And I hope they draft him again at 22. I really don't want Mitchell. Not a fan at all from what I've seen of him. Likely will be limited to left as he doesn't always get good reads and has an average arm, at best. He K's a ton, and has a pretty big hole in his swing that needs to be fixed. If he fell to 38, I wouldn't mind it, but there will be better players at 23 for us to pick, IMO. No problem with speedy LF, especially with Danks in the system. Mitchell/Danks/Quentin for 2013 outfield!

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 03:40 AM) And while he strikes out a lot, he also walks a lot. So thats a good sign. I had no idea his OPS was easily over 1.00

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 04:40 AM) Plus toolsy outfielders are valuable. Hell, look at Carlos Gomez, Martinez, McClutchen. Guys that all have a s***ton of speed and a lot of raw tools. All are in the majors now, Gomez obviously having a year of seasoning, but they all had massive trade value (even look at Lastings Milledge). Bottom line there are far dumber picks you can make than toolsy outfielders because as long as they put up decent numbers in the minors they'll have awesome trade value and if they do put up big time numbers or develop you'll end up having a stud. Too bad Bowden's gone.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 04:34 AM) He's got a very live bat but he hasn't really clicked this season. He could always move back to 2nd base though and become a hell of an asset, imo. I'd say he's got a shot to at least be a solid backup but he still has the offensive potential to be a very solid everydayer. He can't play a corner outfield position though and be a premium bat so his value enlies in being able to play CF, 2B or as a utility guy. Agreed, and that means you don't cater your draft to not overlap him, etc.
-
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 03:31 AM) Why, with the success of Jordan Danks, and the semi-success of John Shelby would this organization still think that toolsy project OF is still a priority with our first pick? Shelby's not really a true prospect, is he? Seems like he's more of a back-up at best.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 03:26 AM) To be honest, I'm more of a Mitchell fan than most on this board that I have read. I wouldn't be terribly upset with the pick. I think he fits nicely into the possibility of the CF leadoff role, almost in line with Allen, Flowers, Danks, Beckham, Retherford's timetable. I want Ev Williams more than Mitchell or Trout. Trout seems to have a really low ceiling, and I just don't want to hear the Rowand comparisons. A friend of mine who works for the Cubs think they'll have a chance at Kyle Gibson.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 03:21 AM) Considering how close this team is to a rebuilding mode, I hope they realize that it would be very very smart to spend money in this draft, especially when there are bound to be a good group of players available in the first 4-5 rounds and than plenty more guys that fall who could be good options. Don't get your hopes up.

What type of power does Mitchell have? Is he from the Owens school or can he hit the ball into the gap?

Bad news, I'll be shocked if it's not Mitchell. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/chi-0...0,5772928.story

Posted this in other thread, but CQ isn't going to be back on Wednesday. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/chi-0...0,5772928.story

Sounds like we won't see him for a long time. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/chi-0...0,5772928.story -
QUOTE (G&T @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 03:31 AM) Turns out that Fields has a babip of .333 this season. So not only has be been bad, but he has actually been very lucky when he makes contact. So he's actually has the ability to be worse. Of course he's been lucky...he has the flare over the 2nd baseman's head down to a science. He's hit about 5 balls very hard all season.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 02:29 AM) Dayan is such a good prospect. Would you rather he hit .300 with 10 homers this year or .270 with 20 homers?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 03:27 AM) On tigertalk.com they are b****ing about the Tigers offense calling for the head of their hitting coach and referring to Jose as Cy Contreras. That was a very heartless performance by the Tigers. I also bet their fans are fuming about Ordonez and Cabrera cracking up in the dugout after Bonderman was pulled and sitting next to them.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 03:25 AM) But then what happens if Gordon really struggles and has to go back down to the minors? You play him regardless. Let's face it...if we can't count on Beckham in the next 3-5 years, then this entire rebuilding of the farm system is destined to fail. -

Impressed by the crowd of 30k tonight. That's not a turning point win, but it could definitely be classified as a season salvaging win. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 03:22 AM) ah? WTH would Kenny be looking to trade Quentin? Sorry, I meant Wise/BA/Fields. I think Wise gets DFA'd on Wednesday, and Fields is probably on the trade block.
