QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 08:55 PM) Now I gotta hear the bulls*** for the next couple weeks that the Royals are going to contend for the Central this season. Not that the Sox are a sure contender but the Royals arent close yet. They're a pretty solid team..they've eliminated a lot of the holes they've had in their lineup. If they can find a 4-5 starter, they'll give everyone a run in the division.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 08:54 PM) We need a CF/lead off hitter badly. And Greg Walker...what the f*** are you doing? Can someone tell Alexei he's getting nothing but breaking balls from everyone in this division? Do you f***ign job Walk. It's been a long time since we had stud young players coming into their second season. Walker's going to have to earn his paycheck this year by helping them overcome the league adjustments.
-
BTW, as noted in the game thread, it's sickening how many fastballs this team is taking for strikes and offspeed pitches out of the zone they're going after.
-
Ozzie managed a good game today...it's just Jenks is not very effective when it's not a save situation. This lineup just isn't going to work. Getz is a patient hitter but still better suited for the 9 spot in the order. The pitching looks great so far, but the offense is miserable. We were a bad managerial decision away from getting swept this series. KW...this mess is on you!
-
Getz has been too patient at the plate, and he's taking very hittable pitches and falling behind in the count. Hopefully with experience comes better top of the order instincts.

QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 05:00 AM) And Wise is? Yes, he's a better CF than Pods.

QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 04:56 AM) Really only 2 players I think you consider in free agency is Dave Roberts and Podsednik, give them a minor league contract and see where it goes from there. No harm in trying. Scott Podsednik is not a CF. Will people please stop mentioning him as a possibility!!!!

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 03:46 AM) That is scary that you say CQ had a bad spring as well. That would really suck if he was not the CQ of a year ago. Actually we could not survive that. Our lineup will be toast without CQ being CQ of last yar. From the games I saw in ST, Quentin's bat speed was significantly down and he was rolling over on a lot of pitches. He put a great swing on the ball in the 9th inning tonight, but it seemed like the ball didn't fly off of his bat like he did last season.
-
Fields still needs to show that he has a prayer against a strong fastball. With that said, he showed a great eye tonight.

Something that was disappointing is that even after yesterday's dramatic win, it seemed like the Wise issue was the most talked about thing relating to the Sox. When you add in Ozzie's ambiguous comments, it seemed to create some bad mojo. Poor Wise is going to be trying so hard at the plate to shut up everyone.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 04:35 AM) i thought the locke ben dynamic was great in tonights episode....i thought it was one of the better ones among the recent season....in typical lost fashion, a couple of questions answered....even more questions proposed... Is Illana an other? What happened to Ben after he gets his crap kicked in by Desmond...does Desmond just leave him in the water? What the hell is the temple and how did locke know where it is? And now i think even Locke has entered a new strata of "special." We've heard that other people on the island are special (walt, etc.) but it seems Locke transcends this into almost somethign divine, when Ben is down in the hole looking up at him (Him?) A theory I read elsewhere is that Locke has embodied the Smoke Monster. As soon as Locke disappeared, the Monster appeared. When he came back to help Ben, the Monster vanished.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 03:35 AM) They booed when he popped out on a bunt attempt, it wasn't unbearably loud, but it was noticeable. They cheered, I guess sarcastically, when he made a play in CF. There weren't enough fans in attendance to boo loudly enough to be really audible. That had to be one of the most boring games I can recall. The Sox didn't hit a ball within 50 feet of the outfield wall.
-
Wow, Gallardo just hit a mammoth 3-run homer on a high fastball by Randy Johnson.
-
Terribly disappointing episode. I don't know what it is, but this show is boring the crap out of me.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 02:39 AM) Yeah, we are going to pitch well, but offensively we won't be hitting until the weather gets better or we are in a dome. Still not going to be able to manufacture runs because our fastest runner is never on base, getz is a grinder, but he isn't a speedster. Alexei looks bad so far at the plate, too, dunno why. But I worried about his adjustment because the whole world knows he hits fastballs well, but not hooks. or maybe Alexei just really struggles in cold weather? He's pulling off the ball so much. The pitch recognition seems off, but that's going to happen at the start of the season. I'm not worried about that, nor am I concerned about how the other AL Central teams are doing.

Really disappointing game from the offense, as I've never seen a team take so many hittable pitches and swing at pitches out of the zone. Quentin's fly out in the 9th was disturbing, as it seems like he crushed it and the ball went nowhere. It's going to take him a while to get things going, and I hope he doesn't try to do too much at the plate. Oh, and someone tell our first baseman to stop trying to just make weak contact at the plate. If he's in that mindset, might as well sit him on the bench. Gavin looked great though, just needs to keep the fastball down more consistently. Bullpen is definitely a strength of this team.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 03:20 AM) whats even more inexcusable is that your opening day CF last year, is still on the roster, yet you didnt even try him in CF for 1 inning this spring, when in the near future you could forseeably have a glut of decent middle IF options Yep, it's just inexcusable...I was thinking today that if you can get the Dodgers to pay most of his salary, I'd want Pierre on this team. Pierre stealing bases with Getz's bat control could be special.

Walker's contract extension will be announced shortly.

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 01:35 AM) I turned on the radio just on time to hear the crowd boo Wise out of Chicago after bunting up a popup. Oh, but Brian Anderson will get his chance on the 7th game of the season, against Liriano, while Wise continues to embarras himself. I just don't know what the f*** KW was thinking this offseason. He was too busy trying to clean up his mistakes from last offseason (Swisher, OC's arb), and inexcusably did nothing to help this 25 man roster. It's honestly one of the worst GM decisions you'll ever see, and it's reflected in the booing by our great fans (I mean this sincerely, as it's fantastic to see people booing the decisions being made).
-
Going from bad to worse for Wise...I can't believe he's our leadoff hitter.
-
Ouch, not a good effort by Moehler tonight. First 7 Cubs hitters have reached.
-
It's pretty sad that after one game, this crap is starting up in the media. KW and Ozzie have no one to blame but themselves. KW should have seen what he had in the organization and found a suitable CF, and no one is forcing Ozzie to bat Wise in the leadoff spot.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 03:59 AM) cubs got a lucky call at 3rd...miles didnt get the bag cubs fans love to call hawk a homer....len kasper is just as bad...even brenley said it was a bad call and kaspers just such a b**** Kasper has turned into such a freaking turd. Terrible decision making by the Astros all night.

Yep, Twins win. Can't believe they didn't let Morrow try to close it out.
