  1. I love when athletes try to come up with reasons they signed other than just saying "X team offered me significantly more money than anyone else".
  2. Rowand wants 5 year deal, but Sox are only going to give him 4 years. Bay is someone who I thought KW might be interested in, but the Pirates are supposedly asking for the moon for him. The Fukodome stuff is interesting, as earlier today there were rumblings that the Sox weren't interested in him. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7506740
  3. QUOTE(BearSox @ Nov 30, 2007 -> 04:47 AM) If we could do the above mentioned trade, and then sign Fukodome... 1. Fukodome, CF 2. Cabrera, SS 3. Cabrera, LF 4. Thome, DH 5. Konerko, 1B 6. Dye, RF 7. Pierzynski, C 8. Crede, 3B 9. Richar, 2B Buehrle, Vazquez, Contreras, Floyd/Egbert/Broadway NICE! Even though that rotation sucks, that's a hell of a lineup. Sox aren't pursuing Fukodome. Teams have basically given up on the idea of him playing in CF.
  4. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 30, 2007 -> 04:00 AM) This Gumbel is the most boring announcer I've ever heard. I don't want a cheerleader announcing the game but gosh damn. Plus he tries to add color commentary and that makes things worse. He's awful. Reminds me of James Brown during the NCAA Tournament. It sounds like they're on a cell phone. Why can't Gus Johnson just announce every game.
  5. QUOTE(BearSox @ Nov 30, 2007 -> 03:40 AM) McCarthy is no Garza, plain and simple. After 2005, he was one of the top pitching prospects in all of baseball. I must have missed when Garza became this top-notch stud. I know some members of the Tampa organization are furious that they gave up on Delmon when Rocco's career is in jeopardy.
  6. QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Nov 30, 2007 -> 03:38 AM) We may be stuck with Uribe. Word out of STL has the Cardinals and Pirates talking a deal in which STL would get Jack Wilson and Matt Morris (two bad contracts) from the Pirates for a couple of low rate prospects. I still can't believe KW signed Uribe, and then traded our best chip for another SS less than 10 days later. It's really disappointing to see what's taking place so far, and I like OC.
  7. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 30, 2007 -> 03:07 AM) I can come up with about 10 other young hitters in A ball, equal or better than Carter, who didn't make the list. Thankfully they said Carter, and not soxtalk icon Egbert.
  8. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Nov 30, 2007 -> 03:26 AM) These are my exact sentiments. I actually envy the Twins here because, first, they undersand contention next year is unlikely and aren't making marginal signings/acquisitions to appease their fanbase; and second, the talented players they're making available will fetch quite the haul. Even if any deals are primarily the result of payroll restrictions, it's still a approach which may lead them back to the playoffs before us. I still can't believe the Twins got a young stud like Delmon Young for a starting pitcher that they didn't even like enough last year to keep in the rotation for the full season. McCarthy should have had similar value for to Garza last year, and we end up getting a starting pitcher who, if everything goes right, can be a #3 starter.
  9. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 30, 2007 -> 02:04 AM) They didn't non-tender him. He was a FA. They declined to offer him arbitration, which would have resulted in either 2 extra top 75 picks (about $2M in signing bonuses), or 1-year of Riske at about $2.5MM. Sorry, I meant the arb. offer. Riske very well could have picked up that 2.5 million. Let's face it though, the Sox have very little appreciation for racking up draft picks.
  10. Real quick opinion, not like anyone cares. David Riske is a reliever who doesn't handle tough outs well. His stuff has deteriorated over the last few years, and I have no problem with them not tendering him last season.
  11. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 03:49 AM) James was fine in Maui outside of Chaminade. The Duke game he was getting to the lane whenever he wanted, he had four or five shots that went in and out. His shot selection was fine, too. His shot looks a lot better this year -- don't know if the stats bear that out. And no, Marquette's offense doesn't run better through Acker. That's silly. Acker is a good bench player, a good backup PG, nothing more. I just don't think James sets up his teammates well. He was a more well-rounded pg his freshman year. I saw those shots he rimmed out, it will be interesting to see if he keeps shooting with the confidence he showed. As you know, he had no confidence at the end of last year.
  12. QUOTE(bmags @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 03:29 AM) way to draw up a final play mike anderson. That was pathetic by Keon Lawrence down the stretch.
  13. QUOTE(BaseballNick @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 03:18 AM) Why is everyone having a hissy fit? It's November; not April. The second round of GM meetings hasn't even started yet! If you really think we should have outbid LAA and given Hunter somewhere around $100million then there's exhibit A as to why you're not the GM of this team. KW already added two pretty good players at the expense of a pitcher who was unspectacular (10-13) last year, in the walk year of his contract, and who publicly admitted that he has a knot in his shoulder which bothers him when he throws. Pitchers who have shoulder issues and who have logged 850IPs over the last four seasons are an extended DL stint waiting to happen. KW thought he would get Hunter, plain and simple. Also, Orlando Cabrera is in his walk year, and sounds like he has no intention of resigning with the Sox before the season.
  14. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 03:18 AM) His whole season so far has been bad, but he's still on pace to be Jarret Jack's twin :-P. Not even close. J. Jack was a true pg, James is a shooting guard now. Marquette's offense runs better when Acker is creating, at least from when I've been watching.
  15. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 03:16 AM) No Dominic James? I thought you were his biggest fan, Fathom... His assists numbers are pathetic this year.
  16. Top 10 this year, in no particular order: - CDR - Hansbrough - Gordon - Love - Hendrix - Beasley - Rose - Singletary - Brian Laing - Augustin
  17. Randle and Pruitt's skill set is really quite pathetic for being seniors.
  18. Yabuta to sign a 2 yr, 6 mil dollar deal with the Royals
  19. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 06:41 PM) Any GM would say the same. All along, I've just said the one thing I don't want to hear from KW is the same tone he used last offseason with "market correction". I'm confident KW will take a new approach this offseason....but he can't start blaming other teams if they go the extra mile to get the player they want. He's the person who wasted 4.5 million on a SS we don't need now.
  20. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 06:16 PM) I see what you mean but it doen't always work that neatly. Cabrera may have just been made available by the Angels for any number of reasons. Or, maybe something came up on the Angels radar where it suddenly made sense to pursue a one year pitcher. Things change rapidly and a player who wasn't known to be available can suddenly be very tradeable. That's not to discount the possibility you raise of KW simply not being aware. It's possible, but doubtful. Doesn't it seem obvious though that the Angels made these two moves in order to free up players to deal for Cabrera?
  21. That's a great article....only part that I don't want to see is KW saying he's bothered that a team could come in and blow their offer away.
  22. I'd rather have this deal for Wood than Linebrink's deal.
  23. Sean Taylor's in very critical condition after being shot in the groin during a robbery at his house.
  24. QUOTE(Brian @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 05:15 AM) And the Mayo lovefest is sickening. If the internet feed wasn't so far behind, I'd listen to Reis. I'm extremely impressed with how under control he's played tonight. Floyd actually has these guys playing great.
  25. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 24, 2007 -> 11:18 PM) He's been caught abusing 2x now, and was stupid enough to not learn from the first positive test. I really don't want to be the team that gets caught when he gets his 3rd. In my mind, there's likely a huge correlation between people who took amphetamines and people who did steroids. I really hope KW does his research to make sure he doesn't sign someone that's going to get busted in a month.
