  1. I think Broadway is the leading candidate to be the long man out of the bullpen. I'll be surprised if Masset joins the big league squad again.
  2. QUOTE(FlaCWS @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 04:52 PM) He's a .280 lifetime hitter with a .329 OBP. Compare that to Hunter's .271/.324. They're both good for around 20 steals a year. Obviously Hunter has more power, but he also strikes out more. We already have that covered with Thome, Konerko, Dye and AJ. Hunter's a better fielder, but Crisp is no slouch in the field. Crisp is 4 years younger and would come MUCH cheaper. And like I said, we have more holes to fill and not much payroll room if we sign Hunter for 5-6 years (and don't forget we need to extend Cabrera at some point). Crisp's power numbers are significantly down over the past two seasons.
  3. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 04:41 PM) proof? You post stuff based on what you have "heard" all of the time, and we just accept it, why it is different for him? Do you want me to name the exact BA writer or minor league scout it's coming from?
  4. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 04:37 PM) Probably the dumbest thing Levine ever said. Really dumb. The dumbest thing Levine ever said was when he thought that the Sox losing the first game to the Mariners in the playoffs in 2001 was a good thing, as it would help them get the jitters out and rebound for the rest of the series. The second dumbest thing might be when he reported that Alex Cora had agreed to terms with the Indians, like he had some breaking news, about 3 days after the story was reported and the contract signed.
  5. QUOTE(iamshack @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 04:36 PM) It would be a tremendous insult to Tom Hicks and his family if Torii and his agent just decided to hang for dinner at the Hicks' residence if a deal is already complete with the White Sox. His dinner there may certainly have been a posturing move to show the White Sox he is serious about Texas, but from everything I have heard about Torii, he is a class act- I sincerely doubt he would waste the time of the Rangers owner, his sons, and his GM by being entertained for an evening when he has already committed to another deal. I have no doubt that Hunter wants to be a White Sox, but that doesn't preclude him from trying to become a White Sox on his own terms, rather than their own. I sincerely doubt anything has been agreed to, or that anything is a "done deal." Hunter LOVES the spotlight and attention though. There has been some gossip that he wanted the deal done prior to Thanksgiving. As I mentioned last night, Cowley's article seems like it could be a plant by the Sox organization to state their case if the Rangers offer him a crazy amount.
  6. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 04:30 PM) No, people don't know where you get your information from. You never say, it's all coy and hush hush, unless you are talking again about the Baseball America connect. If so, I would take a source inside the White Sox org. over that any day, but that's just me, again nothing personal re: your connections. Just my opinion. Nowhere did you tell him to mention how he knows this is true? Really? What does "provide some proof" mean then? I told him to not say anything unless he has some proof.....in absolutely no way did I then say that he should actually give us that proof. If I wanted to know what supporting evidence he has, I would ask him straight up: what do you know? I guess it's just a matter of semantics, and I'm sure he would share his information if he really wanted to. I wouldn't go around saying things like the White Sox are down on Sweeney and are willing to trade him this offseason if I hadn't at least heard that from some source. As you know better than anyone, there's a difference between a gut feeling and actually information. I just hope ssi has legit information.
  7. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 04:18 PM) And exactly what type of proof should he post on a message board? I hope he's correct and I think he's a good poster. I don't know why you of all people are calling him out though. Nothing personal but he did what you do all the time, make statements about what'll happen without naming a source or providing proof. In complete fairness and for accuracy sake, he did post yesterday the meeting between Hunter and the Rangers wouldn't take place last night, and they did meet ... unless Jon Daniels is lying, which I doubt. So southsideirish was wrong on that aspect. People on here know where I get my information from. I recall in an earlier post he said it's just a gut feeling. If he actually has proof, then that's a great scoop and I hope he's correct. That's all I'm saying...nowhere did I tell him to name a source or mention how he knows this is true.
  8. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 04:03 PM) Oh, s***. The sportswriters on my College newspaper picked him as MVP of the Cubs last season. They haven't lived it down with me yet. f***ing Ryan Theriot. Even though he was definitely a catalyst, it's comical how overrated he is by Cubs fans.
  9. I wonder if Ryan Theriot will get any votes?
  10. QUOTE(FlaCWS @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 03:29 PM) Actually I love that idea. Crisp is younger than Hunter, isn't quite as good defensively but still a major upgrade over what we have, is a pretty solid hitter (we already have plenty of power and don't need Hunter for that) and would come much much cheaper. Let's not forget we still need at least one more arm for the 'pen and probably the rotation as well. If Kenny thinks this team is contending with Contreras as the #3 starter, he's a lunatic. And I'm not just going off last year. I said at the time they extended him that it was a mistake. He has basically had two good HALF seasons his entire time in MLB. And if you consider Vazquez's historic shakiness, and Danks' still-unproven'ness (yeah, i know, not a word), we are in no position (at the moment) to be "going for it" in '08. Ain't gonna happen. Just being realistic. Crisp isn't a very good hitter.
  11. I think it's funny how people think the decision will come down to which team Hunter thinks has a better chance to be competitive. It only has to do with money and years on the contract. And southsideirish....I respect your opinion that it's a done deal, but don't going around saying it is unless you actually have some type of proof.
  12. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 03:07 PM) Let me dream here.... 1) Owens, LF 2) O. Cabrera, SS 3) Konerko, 1B 4) Thome, DH 5) Dye, RF 6) Hunter, CF 7) Crede/Fields, 3B 8) Pierzynski, C 9) Richar, 2B DAMN!!! Yep, still looks like a 3rd place AL Central team.
  13. Congats to McDonough, who's easily the nicest guy I've met involved with professional sports. It's funny that he grew up a Sox fan, and then worked for the Cubs for almost 25 years.
  14. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 09:27 PM) Tomorrow should be a formality for the LSU/OK-State winner. Either team shouldn't have much trouble with Marquette. I'm so sick of the drooling over our defense. I don't give a damn about all the steals, we gave up 60+ points AGAIN. We're wild on defense. Sure we rack up the steals but when you combine the lack of rebounding with the tendency to be overaggressive, you have a very average defensive team. Something I've noticed in their box scores in their astonishing lack of assists. They're averaging less than 10 assists a game. Is this just because no one can make a shot off of a pass?
  15. With rumors floating around that Hunter is meeting with Texas brass tonight, this could very well be a story planted to make it look like we were going to get him if not for some ridiculous Texas offer.
  16. If the Sox were to trade PK, who would play first? I really hope KW doesn't plan on having Fields at 1b and Crede at 3b.
  17. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 10:29 PM) With "anoher deal imminent," being reported and Uribe possibly being shopped what are we going to see? I see us opening more holes, but Hunter in CF would be nice, but I like A-Row also. Uribe would be a real good super sub, but at $4.5M that probably won't happen. I don't see him as a 2B option either and it doesn't sound like KW does either and that's what counts obviously. Richar seems to be the leading candidate to stay at 2B. I see Crede or Fields as possible trade chips and we need help in the bullpen. Could that come from Japan? The move for Cabrera opens up more questions. I don't have a problem with Cabrera, but wish it was Contreras was the one that went in the deal and not Jon. Is Contreras still a trade option for the Sox? No one is reporting that another deal is imminent.
  18. I wonder if Yanks could be interested in Konerko.
  19. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 09:20 PM) That's just it. This is just the first domino, Williams is already saying he's in on other potential deals and he's saying he wants to move Uribe. It is a natural reaction for fans to look at one deal and jump to conclusions about what will be, but it doesn't work that way with this front office. Other things will get done. One position has been upgraded and now they'll try to upgrade others. For all you rebuilding fans, it ain't happening, another quote from Williams today was "we are 100% commited, from top to bottom, to achieve another World Championship". Personally I like that approach, I have seen too many the kids can play seasons when they really couldn't play. But that's just me and I realize others will have a different take. This is actually quite a fun time of year to be a baseball fan. Yep, the sooner people realize we're not rebuilding, the easier it will be to understand the moves. Like you said, it's more entertaining to go online every morning to see who we're rumored to be going after instead of who we're rumored to be getting rid of. I think there's still 2 huge acquisitions down the road.
  20. QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 07:11 PM) Would a "Ray" qualify, such as Crawford? I don't want Miguel Cabrera. But what this does seem to imply is another trade on the horizon. How can you not want Miguel Cabrera? The only person who should not want him is the owner of an all-you-can-eat buffet.
  21. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 07:04 PM) If Uribe ends up at 3B, somehow...I will boycott the Sox until KW is fired. The only way he ends up at 3rd base is if we trade Fields in package for Miguel Cabrera. If not, Fields will be our 3rd baseman.
  22. One observation on McCamey: if he doesn't watch it, he might break the record for most palming/carry calls in a season.
  23. Most underrated performer on the Sox over the last 3 years. Thanks for everything Jon!
  24. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 06:06 PM) Few people are saying that Jon's going to tear up the AL for the next 10 years. (Although, Kip Wells and Josh Fogg were each better than the garbage we trotted out for our fifth starter for the next couple years, not to mention the garbage we traded them for. Jury's still out on the BMac/Danks challenge trade.) The point is that there's no Gio coming back in this deal. Gio isn't exactly a sure-fire pro. At least Cabrera is someone we can put on the field and know he can produce offensively and defensively.
  25. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 05:53 PM) I still want Uribe moved. He's not going to give you good at bats late in the game, so his value rests with his defense. The more I think about it, the more I like Cabrera, but I'm still a little disappointed with what we get back for Garland til I find out the cash. Don't expect the cash to be that much...it rarely ever is.
