QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 11:50 PM) Our biggest free agent acquisition sits yet again. I guess a career line of 440 .462 .560 1.022 in 25 at bats against Bedard isn't good enough. To be fair AJ is 3-5 with 3 singles, but Thome has a career line of 250/.308/.250/.558 against Bedard Two years ago, I was begging KW to acquire Mackowiak. Last offseason, I wanted him to get Toby Hall. Both years, I was extremely disappointed in the way that Ozzie used the player. Like you said in another thread, I have no idea why he keeps playing Thome every single day. Give the big man a rest....it's not like he's on fire or is good against LHP.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 11:27 PM) this organization is officially a debacle

QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 11:14 PM) Per Reifert: That's just pathetic.

I'm stunned that are three starting outfielders from opening day are injured at the same time.

QUOTE(NYSox35 @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 10:59 PM) To me, this is the optimal plan. I'd like to hang on to JV too, but if finances dictate it, I'd be fine with 2 of Floyd/Broadway/Gio/Egbert/Russell to go along with the 3 you named. Russell is not even close to being a possibility right now. If anything, they should try to make him into a righty set-up man.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 08:27 PM) I wonder what percentage of players with blanket NTC get traded. It seems a lot of them do. Exactly, and this almost proves that the Sox were intending on trading him in a year or so. I've always thought NTC are overrated, as players almost always waive it and accept the trade.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 08:14 PM) Good grief... not only was I crying from before the start of game 1... I think I was still a bit weapy at the parade. I'm with you. I don't think I will ever be over it. I still watch at least one game from the collector's DVD each week.

I hope he either re-signs or gets traded tomorrow, as the arguments we're all involved in on here are going nowhere.

Dodgers and white sox discussing possible deal
fathom replied to chisox2334's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
Too many uses of the word "believed" to make me think this is some big inside information. I do find it funny that it says we asked for both Billingsley and Broxton for Dye. -
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 12:05 AM) Doesn't it figure? We've probably lost a division title or maybe even 2 since 2001 because of not being able to beat KC and TB, particularly on the road, and this year we go 6-1 on a week of road games against them. The recipe was pretty simple in that our offense was just plain bad, instead of epically bad like it usually is, outside of Danks first start, our starting pitcher went at least 7 innings in every win so we avoided the pen quite a bit, and when we did use the pen, they were ok. Of note: Ryan Bukvich in his first 2 outings gave up 3 earned runs and 5 hits in 1 inning. In his 8.2 innings since, he's only allowed 2 earned runs on 6 hits, and Thornton threw 4.2 scoreless on the trip. Also, Boone Logan and Bobby Jenks are good. Paul Konerko walked only 60 times in 152 games last year. Through exactly half as many games (76) this year, he's already just over 2/3 of the way to last years total with 41 walks. That's what happens when you don't have lineup protection, and just imagine how many walks he'd have if Paulie had hit at all before Memorial Day. Jim Thome hit .233 in both May and June, but his OBP took a staggering dive from .425 in May to .337 in June. He's hurt, he can't hit nearly as well as normal, and other teams figured that out and started to pitch to him more in June. Is a DL trip necessary? For all the love Buehrle is getting here for his bounceback year, Jon Garland is actually slightly better in ERA (3.15 to 3.33), has a similar record at 6-5 to Mark's 5-4, and similar WHIP at 1.16 to Mark's 1.10. And unlike Mark, Jon is coming off an 18 win season. One day he'll get the credit he deserves among Sox fans. Like I said, if you can get him to waive his NTC and find some valuable prospects in return, trade Thome. People closer to the situation than any of us keep saying how injured he's been/is.

Nice play by Cintron.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 08:47 PM) I do not think you are correct on that. Not at all. Not even a little bit. Time will tell. Though that wasn't even the point of my post. Sox fans are a "what have you done for me lately" crowd. If Mark was pitching like he did the 2nd half last year everyone would be screaming not to give him any more money. If they weren't looking to trade him, they would have put him on the DL a week ago. And wouldn't that make sense for fans to react that way to Buehrle? He had the roughest stretch of his career during the 2nd half last year, so we wanted him to prove it was a fluke and that he could regain his velocity and ability to get hitters out. He's done that this year, but if he sucked so far this year, fans would have every right to say he shouldn't be re-signed for the money he wants.
-
QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 08:35 PM) No one cares about the facts. If Mark was pitching s***ty right now the majority would be screaming about what a s***ty player he is and to trade him. JD couldn't get a bad word said about him for the past 2 years - same as Kenny. The organization was peeved at Dye when he made mention of the fact that he'd like to play for Ron Washington. Then, they got really upset again when they felt he wasn't making it seem like he'd be upset if he was traded. They're trying their best to trade him right now, I can guarantee you that. I'm just grateful that we didn't extend his deal. Jermaine Dye had two of the most memorable seasons in Sox history his first two years here, and I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and just forget about this year once he's traded.
-
Quick thought: it would be ironic if Buehrle gets traded tomorrow, as it would be the one year anniversary of his start against the Cubs which was the beginning of the end of his season.
-
Santo, I saw you post this elsewhere, but I'm on the Willie Harris at 2nd base bandwagon for the Sox next year. You find a guy who can hit lefties that can platoon with him, and you have a perfect #9 hitter for the squad. He wouldn't cost much, and you could use your resources on guys at other positions. QUOTE(Chopper2Hopper @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 08:26 PM) Garland cruising! Shame he may not even be on this team much longer. How does this team not see what it has? Maybe they look at this offensive personnel and bullpen personnel and realize how far they are away from competing again?
-
Very smart play by PK, as if he went for the force out and then the play at 2nd base, the runner would have scored from home.

Cintron's swing is so pathetic this year. Everything seems to be a weak pop up.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 07:53 PM) Paulie is heating up. Probably the most idiotic thing continuously said on this site is that the contract we gave him is bad.

Official Love for the Milwaukee Brewers Thread
fathom replied to Greg The Bull Luzinski's topic in The Diamond Club
Tough luck for Brewers today, as they've been hitting rockets all over the place, but right at Cubs defenders. -
QUOTE(3E8 @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 07:15 PM) I don't think anything Gavin did/does today would have an effect on Buehrle's situation with the White Sox unless he died or something If they didn't start Floyd today, it could be a sign that something is imminent and they'd need Floyd to come up and start.
-
FWIW, Gavin Floyd pitched today, and walked 6 guys in 5 innings. That makes me think Buehrle isn't getting traded in the next 24 hours. Two atrocious at-bats for AJ today.

Strained left rib muscle for Barbaro. Once again, thanks KW!

Luis Terrero sure sucks now as well.

QUOTE(Chopper2Hopper @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 06:45 PM) Well shucks, I was hoping for the housecleaning to begin. Soon enough I guess. Don't worry, it will probably be people we don't want to see traded.
-
Just have to hope there's nothing serious going on in terms of health or family things. Can we trade them Ozzie and Uribe for Bettancourt?
