White Sox vs Yankees, 6/7/07 (L)
By the way, this is the perfect time to trade Dye to the Mets for Milledge and solid pitching prospect. They're struggling right now, and Alou/Green/Chavez are injured.

If they're going to make him be a starter, they're going to have to make him into a sinker baller and have him throw more in the 92 range than in the upper 90s.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 09:59 PM) well, the only people who think he is a reliever or a LOOGY are on this board. So I wouldnt put a whole lot of stock in that. or about three different college scouts who work for BA. I know what they say on the draft blog....but that's not what they think. For the record, they don't think it was a terrible pick. The biggest laughs of the first round were the Pirates and Twins picks.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 09:56 PM) That's the main thing that disappoints me is his projection to the bullpen. At least we're not the Pirates.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 09:52 PM) I've watched his video on mlb.com. From what I saw, it reminded me of Sisco. Little movement and no secondary stuff to back it up. His delivery is very similar as well. He's going to have to be a reliever. I wouldn't be to upset if he can be a lefty set-up man.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 09:49 PM) And I have a hard time believing so many people that are paid to scout and project the draft are wrong. Poreda wasn't a 1st round name, but was a Top 50 player. I just have a real hard time already calling this kid a 1st round bust an hour after he was picked. None of us have seen him for more than 2 or 3 minutes, and he is obviously extremely raw. I know it's fun for alot of fans to rag on everything Sox, but lets give it a little more time. Now if you want to be upset about Porcello, fine, thats another story. You know that most of what I just said there is coming from scouts and draft editors.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 09:43 PM) Sorry, but how can you make a statement like that? I have a hard time believing you have seen him throw a pitch(aside from the 10 second clips on ESPN) Your going to make that statement just on some scouting reports you have read from various online sites? Sure you can gather the best information possible to find out what type of pitcher the Sox drafted, but you have no idea on how this guy projects. I just find it hard to project a guy who only throws fastballs to be extremely productive against MLB hitters when he can't even average 2 strike outs every 3 innings. According to a scout after the pick, he said "well, good luck letting Yankees hitters put the ball in play compared to letting Santa Clara hitters".

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 09:42 PM) Coop can't fix him ?!?!?! He's sure worked wonders with the offspeed, or should I say lack of, pitches of Thornton and Cotts.

Just watched some video of Porda on mlb.com. Not a lot of life on his fastball, which explains the low K rate. Cooper doesn't have have a good track record with teaching lefties good offspeed pitches.
