  1. NOT TO JINX HIM, BUT SCHILLING HAS A NO-HITTER THRU 8.
  2. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 09:32 PM) I never said that. But the negative, the Sox suck, the manger sucks, the gm sucks none stop daily vibe around here is bulls***. All we're asking is for them to prove us wrong. It's been almost an entire season worth of the team slumping, crap in the media, questionable decision making, and lethargic play. KW was the toast of this site last year around this time, even after the bad Vazquez trade.
  3. What's the more annoying argument: - if you know so much, then why aren't you managing in the majors? or - if you think such and such team is so good, then why don't you become a fan of that team?
  4. Flash....you think will get some arrogant comments from KW in the press about how he figures Sox fans will like this because he throws hard?
  5. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 09:22 PM) Pal, I have a clue. I think having a player with a plus fastball with an excellent chance of signing with a good upsaide is better than wasting a pick so you can get another pick next year...which is your concept. You need a clue. We've taken enough safe picks lately in terms of signability.
  6. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 09:21 PM) I got one thing left to say, Aaron Poreda must put up some crazy numbers this year and move through the organization fast, or else, I don't know what I'm gonna do. Seriously, does this guy not seem like Andrew Sisco part 2? Hard fastball but with no secondary stuff and some command issues. He has good control. He's Matt Thornton Jr.
  7. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 09:18 PM) You approve of wasting a first round pick instead of picking the pitcher we got????...and Kenny's the bad GM, eh? I approve of going all out for someone that you usually don't have a chance at (with that kind of talent) due to your average record.
  8. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 09:17 PM) If Porcello is pitching well for Detroit alongside Miller and Verlander, it's Williams responsibility to find pitchers to match them. Whether from international scouting, trades, or devoting money to picks who slip in the draft. He better do it, because I'm not any more confident about our future now than several hours ago. The immense expectations for Poreda start right now for me. If Williams is willing to pass up Porcello at #25 knowing a competitor rests two spots below, he better be confident. Especially since everyone was aware that there was a team that would take him before #30, and when you look at the teams that picked after us and before the Yankees, it was obvious it was the Tigers.
  9. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 09:08 PM) Explain that to the other 10 teams that wanted nothing to do with him. Don't you think they know that? They obviously value the negoiation process a LOT more than our Mel Kipers here. The upside isn't the point. What good is selecting a guy if he's not a lock to sign or you know it will be difficult? Of course if the Sox are/were willing to give a prospect that kind of money ($3-5 million,) it's only natural that the b****ing about not spending that money on the major league team will start to arise. Personally, I would have been so impressed if the Sox realized that they needed to put more money into player development due to the upcoming rebuilding that's going to have to be done.
  10. 66 strike outs in 100 IP against average-to-mediocre college competition. I can't see how he projects to be anything else than a reliever.
  11. I still predict the Sox will take John Ely with their next pick. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 08:55 PM) For the record, i watched Broadway pitch in person last night. one of his better games. went 7 innings, allowed three runs, two earned. only four Ks with four walks. Fastball usually at 87, occasionally hit 88. NEVER HIGHER than 88. Gave up six hits, including a 398-foot dinger by Mark Bellhorn. He looks functional, a fourth or fifth starter, which is what the scouts say about him. Nothing wrong with that, except he was a first-round draft pick. We need to trade him. He has no chance to succeed in the Cell pitching the way he does.
  12. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 08:54 PM) Go watch the Tigers and all their great pitchers than. Watch as they go to throw to 3rd base and air mail it. So we're going to start mocking a team for what they do in the playoffs? I don't get this line of thinking by some on here. The Tigers are one of our main competitors....we didn't want them to add another top-line talent.
  13. I love the pick for the Yankees.
  14. Oh, and Flash, one more thing: the Sox were taking a hard thrower with their first pick, no matter what.
  15. We always hear the excuse about how the Sox never have a high pick because of their good record over the last decade. Thus, that's why we never have the massive talents in our system. Now, we have the best high school pitcher in the draft fall into our laps if we want, and we don't take him.
  16. A couple of tidbits hot off the presses: - the Sox never considered Porcello today. There was only one team that contacted him besides the Yankees that picked after #10 - the Sox were leaning to taking Main or Alderson
  17. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 08:38 PM) And if we picked Smoker, Griffith, Harvey, or Porcello all of you would have found reasons to blast the White Sox for those picks too. I'm calling bulls*** on that.
  18. Haha....congrats Tigers for not being a bunch of pussies. Bonderman, Verlander, Miller and Porcello = good night
  19. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 08:34 PM) Yeah, as I've said, I'm not too upset -- there certaintly is projectability. I would have loved to have Smoker or Griffith, though. It's simple. If Poreda is a bust, we won't have to worry about the current collection of crosscheckers and scouts making any more decisions. If Minnesota or Detroit picks Smoker, Griffith, Harvey, or Porcello, we may be in trouble for quite a long time. We're in trouble for quite a long time no matter who they pick. It's sad to see this organization draft like a cheap team just because Borchard tanked.
  20. I think it's safe to say we had our hearts set on Main.
  21. He's got some pretty pathetic strike out numbers. Sounds like he might as well be Matt Thornton's brother.
  22. What's the scouting report?
  23. I'm going to cry if we take Jackson.
  24. Thanks Padres!
  25. Someone post the Main scouting report for me?
