White Sox vs. Royals, 5/13/07 (L)
15 hits total so far between the Sox and their three highest minor league teams. Adam Russell did horrible today. If we can go 3-3 in our next 6 games, I will be thrilled beyond belief.

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ May 13, 2007 -> 08:49 PM) Don't make fun of my disability Tad can play areal good 2base and that's a fact. But, all good players can make an error once in awqhile. I think you are letting all the negative stuff get in the way here. serenity now actually kind of works I couldn't disagree more, but we each have our own opinion.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 13, 2007 -> 08:46 PM) Borchard is batting .198 and strikes out once every 2.88 at-bats. His SLG% is comparable to Iguchi's. Nobody is getting on base for Iguchi either. Iguchi is 2-20 with RISP. Borchard is around .200 with RISP after today. It's sad that we even have to argue that Iguchi might be worse than Borchard. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ May 13, 2007 -> 08:47 PM) i think we all know the answer who goes down when Hall arrives -- molina or masset? Molina

Sorry Gustavo....when you're 50 years old, you can always tell your kids you went 0 for your MLB career.

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ May 13, 2007 -> 08:43 PM) There might be some truth to that. Team chemistry is important and when you start messing with success it can bite you in the behind Team chemistry is the most overrated thing in sports. Winning = chemistry 6.61 for Jenks Jr.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ May 13, 2007 -> 08:43 PM) Hooray for another Ass Whipping!!! It's almost time to fall over ourselves to make excuses for the sad and pathetic Class A ball offense. We don't get our ass kicked very much at all. It happens, not a big deal from the pitching side. It's just the offense is worse than we give it credit for.

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ May 13, 2007 -> 08:41 PM) Fathom, he has made some abosultely great plays at second When was this...must have been when I wasn't watching. All I've seen is a lack of range and poor double play turns.

BTW, Iguchi only has 3 swings this year that has resulted in an RBI. Looking at their numbers, Borchard's had a better season so far.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 13, 2007 -> 08:39 PM) Come on. Ronny Cedeno, Inge, Brochard, Cano, I-Roid, Pena jr., Edmonds, Eckstein, and Jason Kendall just to name a few all disagree. At least guys like Inge, Rodriguez, Pena, and Edmonds contribute defensively. Iguchi hurts us on defense, if anything.

So, remember when KW said Masset had similar stuff to Jenks? Send his ass down to the minors...he's got nothing. The scouting report I was told about him was dead on....the Rangers had no problem giving him away.

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ May 13, 2007 -> 08:36 PM) So is Baines and others. Close friend or not to me it's called supporting and believing in the whole team regardless If the reports are true and Walker feels like a big part of his job is mentally supporting these players, then that's a sad testament to the fragile psyche of these guys. I'm sure we'll hear Iguchi whining soon about how he wants to be hitting 2nd in the lineup.

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ May 13, 2007 -> 08:31 PM) I have also believe and have heard that hitting is contagious. Our guys are not rag tag players. Part of the problem is they struggle and try to hard to improve and put alot of pressure on themselves. It's a vicious cycle when your not going well. I am not defending Walker by the way I think that's an issue for the team and management and they seem to thing Walker is doing good and give him their support. Walker is close friends with Ozzie....we saw how much safety that gives you last year with Cora. Iguchi = worst player in baseball this year.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 13, 2007 -> 08:30 PM) All the hitters slumped at once? If thats the case we need to check their betting activity because the probability of a team that slumped as a group that pretty much has the same characters here that scored 520 runs in the first half last year is remote. We heard weather, we heard the pucker factor, now its slump year. Just thank your lucky stars we didn't give any contract extensions this offseason. Jermaine Dye has had two of the most memorable seasons I can ever remember for a Sox player, but I would cry if we locked him up to 3 more years at 35 million.

Not quite sure how much longer Masset will be in the majors. His average stuff, combined with poor command, has made him a liability when he's out there. He's been bailed out a lot by relievers after him to avoid him having a huge ERA.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 13, 2007 -> 08:27 PM) So let me get this straight. We cant fire walker because he is a great hitting coach, best in the league if you ask the sox. We have these stellar hitters who suddenly as a group have decided not to hit. So what is it. Slumps do not affect entire teams, and affect people for almost a month and a half. Hitting is an individual endevor. Sure a good hititng guy behind you can allow you to see better pitchers. But the rag tag group of Cy Young guys who have shut this team down have blown. The thing is, the at-bats are awful. I can hardly even think of any really hard outs we've hit into. If jphat was still around, not even he could say we're not getting lucky. If anything, the opposition has hit into a lot of hard hit outs lately in big spots.

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ May 13, 2007 -> 08:22 PM) Dye-Konerko-Thome-Crede-Iguchi-AJ Perz are all above averegae hitters. The others maybe are average What are the standards for being considered above average? I have a hard time stating that Crede and AJP are above average. Also, if you say they're above average, then guys like Pods, Uribe, and Erstad are below average.

Don't worry though, Aaron Cunningham is on his way to help us. Our 2nd best offensive talent in the minors right now is 2 for his last 28.

3 hits in 7 innings vs De La Rosa. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ May 13, 2007 -> 08:18 PM) Team slump not an indication though of how good we can be. I ain't happy either, but you gotta believe they will come out of it. Right now for the most part our pitching is keeping us in there and hopefull the bats come around. I wish people would stop talking about how great our offensive talent is. Even with Thome healthy, you still only have 3 above average hitters. The offense was hot for a 2 month stretch last year. Besides that, they've been average at best over the last 350 games or so.

Sweeney's swing looks horrendous against lefties. It looks like he has no chance to hit a ball hard to right field from that angle. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ May 13, 2007 -> 08:15 PM) This teams offense is pathetic as all get out that's for sure. I watched the game last night on WGN and Hawk and DJ both were saying they have never seen a team hitting slump last this long or involve the whole team like this. These are the same clowns who said all last year how they've never seen a team go so long without going on a roll like the Sox did last year. It could be game 162 this year, and they'll still think we're going to break out of it.

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 13, 2007 -> 08:09 PM) Buck has been okay this year and Crosby was very good his rookie season, but they haven't produced position players like they did 7-8 years ago....with Hernandez, Giambi, Tejada, Durazo, Chavez, as well as trades for Dye and Damon. I still would take our offense going forward over the A's, but it's only due to my hopes that Thome will come back at full health. Their offense in the past was based on steroids.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ May 13, 2007 -> 08:07 PM) Atleast there aren't many tough lefthanded pitchers within the American League central to worry about. I'm sure you remember how many times I said this same exact thing this offseason. One could argue that Ozzie really screwed up in putting Toby at first base during ST, and then not keeping Perez on the roster.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 13, 2007 -> 08:04 PM) If we want to compete without an offense we need to petition Selig to move the sox to the NL right now. The American league hits, and no matter how good your pitching is eventually you will need your offense to man up and score you some runs. The fact that they keep talking about flipping f***ing baseball cards and all is well is dumb. The offense is getting worse, the Royals got torched last week and our pedestrian offense is making them look great. Most of our games have been against the lowest scoring teams in baseball. No way this pitching performs as well as they have when we face teams like the Yankees, Cubs, Red Sox, etc. At this point, I just want to watch some exciting baseball, as I think we have no prayer to top the Tigers in the standings this year. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 13, 2007 -> 08:05 PM) And the A's are virtually our mirror image...great pitching and lousy offense. Except when they call up people from the minors, they get instant contributions.

Here's are hit totals against lefty starters this year: 8, 1, 1, 5, 5, 5, 4, 5 That's an average of 4.25 Translation = we suck

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 13, 2007 -> 07:55 PM) Talent-wise, yes. Not even the most pessimistic of people thought our offense would be this atrocious, and I wouldn't mind being proven wrong if anyone made any off-season posts stating so. Execution-wise, no, there aren't enough negative words to describe the offense. Looks like the worst in baseball offensively. And if you just mean today's lineup, it's party due to injuries, but I agree that we still should not look this atrocious. There were a few of us begging for upgrades. KW deserves so much blame for not bringing in a leadoff hitter who can play against righties and lefties. And please don't give me the whole....who would you have brought in? I have no clue who was available, but the GM's job is supposed to be to find players that can fit into the holes you have. Under no circumstances should Barbaro have been brought back to play LF and leadoff.
