QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 05:26 PM) Would you be willing to commit to a 6/120 contract to keep him here? I for one would rather just give Brian another chance this year, and if he doesn't work out, make the effort to sign Wells next year when he becomes a FA. Yes, I would definitely consider it. We're not going to sign him if he becomes a FA, as a lot of big market names will be in the mix.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 05:24 PM) Sorry Keith, but I think we get absolutely reamed in that deal. Hirsch isn't near the prospect I want if all we are getting in addition to him is Burke (who is a decent player but will never be anything great). Freddy Garcia has been great and could still be great so there is no way I'm dealing him without getting the possibility of greatness in return (meaning upper echelon spects that can help the team now, some of which could be moved to get the club its CFer). I have to disagree with you here. Hirsh is a big time pitching prospect, and I doubt the Astros would give him up. Also, Burke is definitely in their future plans after 2007, so I don't think they'd give him up either. I'm more concerned that the deal would focus on Tavares, who is a bad player. An outfield with Pods and Tavares would be a disaster.

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 05:21 PM) Vernon Wells is awesome! However, Toronto would want the world for him, im guessing a package of Brian Anderson, Freddy Garcia, Lance Broadway and more... FORGET IT! Not for a rent-a-player. He would be another Bartolo Colon. Just too bad we dont have anymore Rocky Biddle's to offer That's what we're saying...if we can extend him, then I don't care who we give up for him.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 05:17 PM) That report makes absolutely no sense to me though so I just can't believe that would be the case. Farnsworth had some sort of chemical imbalance IIRC and it was diagnosed late in his tenure with the Cubs but I remember it was something similar to ADD and it kept him from being able to focus and since than he's taking medication to correct the problem. I've heard legendary stories of Farnsworth's partying here. I'd rather not have him on the Sox, as he seems like the type of guy who can never get the big out in a big game.

Rumor:Garcia to Philles for Arow + Madson/Floyd
fathom replied to joeynach's topic in Pale Hose Talk
From roto... The Philadelphia Inquirer says a deal sending Jon Lieber to Milwaukee for Kevin Mench and Derrick Turnbow is in place, pending the result of the Phillies' negotiations with the White Sox. The Phillies might not make the trade unless they can get Freddy Garcia from the White Sox, probably using Aaron Rowand and Gavin Floyd. It's unclear whether that will work, and White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen isn't wild about the idea. "We have a center fielder right now," Guillen said. "I won't trade one of my pitchers one-for-one for Rowand right now. He's a good player, but we're not desperate for a center fielder. I love Aaron, but we need more." Please don't do this trade KW! -
If we're going to trade McCarthy to Tampa, it better be for Crawford.
-
QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 04:02 PM) owens and broadway for rocco. Ha....Owens would be about 50th on Tampa's outfield depth chart.
-
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 03:49 PM) I'm sure that could be talked down, and I believe when healthy Rocco is > than Crawford. Rocco isn't close to Crawford. Crawford is better in just about ever aspect.
-
Tampa's asking price is insane for Rocco. From the sounds of it, they'd want two top prospects like Fields and Broadway.
-
If Bonds wants to be a DH, he'll end up with the Tigers.
-
BTW, if the Sox were to get Bonds, then Anderson would be the perfect CF to go along with him.
-
What's the difference between Pods and Bonds? Both are horrific fielding left fielders who have seen their power numbers plummet since the 2004 season and both don't hustle down the line. One is a future Hall of Famer though, and the other one is a future Schaumburg Flyers designated hitter.
-
I really don't know why more teams aren't considering him. Yes, he's a bad person. However, the ratings for any game he plays in are going to be insane once he gets within 10 homers of the record.

Yahoo reports Mets talked to the Sox today about Garcia.

QUOTE(ChiSox9 @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 10:52 PM) How much do we get from the D-Backs? I thought I heard 3 mil on the radio today. -
QUOTE(redandwhite @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 10:54 PM) Not to bring the room down, but it baffles me how personal trainers recommend him working out every day for fours per day. He's gained ten pounds, but there is a good chance that all that exercise will turn into over training and begin to negatively affect McCarthy down the road, specifically late in the season. You never know though...he's still such a young kid, and this seems to be his first serious workout regimen. Obviously by looking at his frame, he really could use it and hopefully it adds to his velocity. Don't worry though...if he hits the wall at the end of the season, many of us will be blaming KW/Ozzie for mishandling him in 2006. Good news about Lester though... I know he's your boy.

Rumor:Garcia to Philles for Arow + Madson/Floyd

Why trade for Rowand when, after another crappy season, he'll be begging for us to sign him to be our 4th outfielder? I think we can survive another season without him. -

Nightmare offseason checklist: - Bring back Pods - Bring back Sandy - Trade one of our starters for Rowand -

fathom replied to joeynach's topic in Pale Hose Talk
After about 10 minutes to rethink this trade, this might be the worst possible scenario that has been mentioned yet. Not only is the "prospect" we would acquire not very good, but Rowand is a 4th outfielder. I'd rather have McCarthy start the year in AAA than have this trade occur. However, I'm confident in saying this deal won't take place. -

QUOTE(Felix @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 10:01 PM) I would assume that Rowand would move to LF (or BA would), or be the fourth outfielder. If that isn't the case, then the deal isn't nearly as good as my previous thought. You really think Rowand wouldn't be placed in CF, and Anderson shown the door? You know Ozzie better than that, Felix my man! -

I'm really beginning to dislike Aaron Rowand. -

Madson reminds me of McCarthy in some ways, and that's not necessarily a good thing. -

I actually trust that Garcia will magically find his 92 mph fastball again during his FA year. On the other hand, unless the Phillies are offering Rollins, Howard or Hamels, I really hope KW puts down the phone. We can do much better than some crappy 4th outfielder and a medicore pitcher. -
BTW, I hope people don't start freaking out if KW doesn't make a move during the meetings. It's better off if he waits until Zito and Schmidt sign.
-
There's only one problem with the Yanks trade....ARod doesn't want to waive his no-trade clause. It's too bad Ozzie had to open his big mouth last offseason.
