3 hits in 4 batters for Garland. Once again, thanks Ozzie!

QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 08:25 PM) f*** francona, he f***ed up when he let beckett face alex and pods, when lopez should have been in there. he has nothing to do with the fact we cant score a damn run. Nope. Lopez can't face righties, everyone knows that. Also, Ozuna would have hit for Pods then. He played that inning to avoid Thome doing damage, and it worked perfectly.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 08:24 PM) Have Papi and Manny ever come up with the bases loaded and nobody out and fail to get the damn ball out of the infield? Probably. I remember Papi striking out against Shingo with the bases loaded and one out, down 2 against the Sox a few years ago. It's too bad the Red Sox didn't release him after that.

QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 08:23 PM) thome, pk, dye, yea they just proved that this inning. ortiz, manny, nixon wouldnt have wasted these opp.'s Seriously, shut up. Take a step back, and think about what you just said. You can be disappointed in that inning, but we're talking about the best 3-4-5 our organization has ever seen, and two of those guys carried us to the WS last year.

Francona's managing one of the best games of the season against us. We clearly don't deserve to win this game.

QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 08:21 PM) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ do they ever come up big when we TRULY NEED THEM? YES THEY DO!
-
Pathetic. Where o where did PK's bat speed go?
-
QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 08:19 PM) what do u mean, we have cotts and thornton who are a million times better. they can get righties out and lefties Lopez would have been valuable to face lefties that you knew wouldn't get ph for.

QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 08:16 PM) So Boston won that trade? No, but it really makes you wonder how we didn't have a spot for him.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 08:17 PM) Ughhhh, big K there. I hope PK doesn't GIDP for the 5th time this week. Shhhh....I got yelled at for saying he's struggling this week due to rolling over on the ball.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 08:12 PM) PH with Anderson here. Widger

Lopez keeps it low, but has a lot of sweep to his slider. Thome needs to just aim for left center again.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 08:07 PM) I know. I probably bring it on myself by coming in here. I'm the anti-fathom, in a word. I just have blind faith sometimes, and that makes seasons like last year a heck of a lot more enjoyable. The scary thing is that I'm nowhere close to being the most pessimistic person on this site now.

QUOTE(Capn12 @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 08:06 PM) And cue the Chicken Littles now... What was Oz supposed to do there? Our 'pen is completely overused right now because our supposed strength this year is a flat out weakness behind Contreras....not much can be done when we have 5 starters who seem completely lost. Let Cotts finish his mess. There was no reason to put Garland in this game. You have Cotts, Thornton, McCarthy, and Jenks left to pitch at that moment.
-
QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 08:05 PM) no seriously, how does it feel to be 11 back because you started TONY BATISTA and kept liriano in the pen while running kyle fing lohse out there for half the year. I'm pretty sure he's a Sox fan. And instead of taunting Twins fans about Lohse, shouldn't we be thanking them?
-
BTW...I know there's been some whining about the pitching, but I thank everyone for some good baseball talk in this thread.

QUOTE(rudylaw @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 08:03 PM) Agreed. They are the better team right now. No doubt about it. I sure hope we get a chance to play them in October again. I don't mean this negatively, but it's things like this which really make me appreciate how we won it all last year, when all the chips fell into place. This Red Sox team is so much better than the one we beat last year.
-
QUOTE(MinnesotaSoxFan @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 08:02 PM) so....how is it gonna feel being 3 games back? About the same as it did the numerous other times we've been in that range this season. We've been hovering around the 2.5 mark for a few months it seems. Hopefully the DRays will help us out tonight. The series at NYY is much more important that this one against the Red Sox.

QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 08:00 PM) It wasn't a K situation. There's two outs. That's what I'm saying....we needed an out, and one strikeout would have done it. As jphat always says, you can't defend the bloopers. That's why sometimes your pitcher needs to nut up and get the K.
-
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 08:00 PM) I'd throw Cotts in there for the most part. Yeah, I was actually going to include him, but he has the shortest leash on the team.
-
Great managing Ozzie!!

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 07:58 PM) I actually agree with what McCarver said. Jon did what he was supposed to. That's just tough luck that it was right in between Cintron and Iguchi. I'm telling you, outside of Jenks, our pitchers can't get that big strikeout to end the inning before any runs are allowed. It's pathetic the amount of hits we're allowing with 2 strikes.
-
This is another example of why Politte needs to be released. If he can't be counted on to pitch in this game, then get him the f*** off of the team.
-
Ha...brilliant idea to bring in a starter out of the pen, especially someone who can't get a K in a K situation. If you're going to let Cotts allow 2 righties to reach base before the batter, keep him in the f***ing game.

QUOTE(BFirebird @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 07:53 PM) The funny part is..at least among the 'experts'...jenks was the sox most unreliable part of the staff. I thought he was unreliable coming into the year, as we had no track record for how he would perform. Also, the weight/velocity issues were concerning. I will say this though.....it's more exciting watching Jenks pitch than any other pitcher in Sox history (outside of post-surgery Parque).
