Ozzie has lost his way
QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 04:10 PM) Are you talking about Sandy Alomar? If so, think bench coach. Yeah, I was referring to Sandy. With our current group of guys (for the next 3 years or so), he'd be a great leader of them. I haven't seen this mentioned, but Thome was saying in the paper how he just thinks Sandy is the nicest guy he's ever met, etc. Here's an observation I have about Ozzie....he's a much better manager when he has a group of scrappy players who feel like they have to overachieve to win. It might sound funny, but we might have too much talent this season for Ozzie to properly manage them. When you have this much talent, sometimes the best thing to do is just get out of their way and let them manage themselves.

White Sox close to acquiring Soriano
The Braves offense is sensational now. There's no way they're going to be sellers.

Ozzie has lost his way
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 03:38 PM) Won/loss record will never get Ozzie fired. He said last year he would quit if the Sox won the WS. I think he will walk away sooner than anyone thinks. The only way he gets fired is if he does something so stupid the Sox have no choice. I don't think he's lost the team, but these little tirades will eventually lead to that IMO. As unbiased as I can be, it wouldn't shock me if Ozzie is gone after this year. It has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not this team is winning or losing. I think that a certain person we brought in to the organization a few days ago could be the next manager of this team. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 03:49 PM) What on earth could Jon have said? Southtown Sorry I actually got Michael Young out.

Ozzie has lost his way
QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 02:47 PM) I'm gonna go with what I was told on the matter. But thanks for your info. Are you implying that there's tension between Dye/Ozzie? Also, Cooper was on the radio, and he seemed rather pissed about Vazquez and his performances recently.

Will The Sox Add Yet Another Reliever?
Roberto Hernandez or S. Torres are much more likely than the big name guys listed above. Linebrink and Gordon have not looked good recently.

Ozzie has lost his way
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 01:42 PM) Don't know what is up with Cottsy lately, given up a couple of jacks, but before he was showing pretty good form, hopefully it's just a couple of bad games he's going through. Live by the high fastball, die by the high fastball. It's amazing he only gave up one homer last season throwing so many high fastballs. It would probably help Cotts lengthen his career if he can start developing a 2nd and 3rd pitch.

If the Sox Get Soriano...
The Mariners are in the race for the AL West. Why would they trade their best player?

If the Sox Get Soriano...
QUOTE(kwill @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 05:02 AM) I have a feeling if we do get Soriano we will flip him again. Kenny is very good at filling holes and Soriano would create one, no matter how good he is with the bat. I think if he gets him he controls the market taking the Tigers or for that matter any other contender out of the market. I hear Seattle is very interested in Soriano, i wouldnt mind getting Rafeal Soriano and a couple good prospects for Soriano. How would acquiring Soriano create a hole? Also, maybe it's just me, but I don't see this "flipping" thing happening at all. How often does this really happen in baseball? KW sees his offense struggling, and Soriano is one of the best hitters in baseball. I think some people are making this more complicated than it has to be. Thanks dasox...I fixed it.

Tomorrows Game
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 03:38 AM) Anytime we play the game I think this team has a chance to win. Of course I usually deem things a loss anytime we go up agaisnt Johan, but you never know. It's amazing, but he's the only pitcher who I feel we have no chance against whenever we face him.

White Sox close to acquiring Soriano
Soriano fits perfectly in the leadoff spot with this team. We already have a great 3-4-5.

Sox get Mike MacDougal for Tyler Lumsden and Daniel Cortes
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 04:45 AM) Absolutely hate this deal. MacDougal is going to drive us absolutely insane.

White Sox close to acquiring Soriano
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 04:16 AM) Again assumptions about what the Sox could and could not afford and what moves they would and would not have made to be able to afford Delgado. I say this respectfully, but DA is dead on with his analysis of the situation. He knows a lot of the behind the scenes stuff with the Sox, and he's correct in this situation.

White Sox close to acquiring Soriano
Why would we want Soriano at leadoff? Isn't a leadoff hitter supposed to only steal bases and bunt? I don't want a guy who can knock in runs and create offense when we're facing a tough lefty or a catcher who can throw.

White Sox close to acquiring Soriano
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 04:06 AM) He would have been a rental, you're assuming things. Frank Thomas was hurt in 2004 and the DH, and Konerko plays 1B. He was coming in in 2004 to take over at DH when Frank was hurt, but refused because of his no trade. Frank was signed for 2005, and Everett was back on the team already too. You're the one assuming, and not doing a very good job at it. Come on now DA, no reason for actual facts or logic.

Ozzie has lost his way
QUOTE(greg775 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 04:02 AM) I agree. This has been our first real real slump. The reason we are not going to survive it is the Tigers and Twins win every series. There has been no margin for error and one critical slump is probably enough to doom us unless we get our pitching together soon and battle for the wild card. It's not like our bullpen has been dominant. If it wasn't Vaz it woulda been Cotts or Riske getting lit the way it's been going. We need to be the team beating the Twins/Tigers. We play them more in the 2nd half of the season than anyone else. It's time to nut up or shut up.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 04:01 AM) ever heard of a position change? Yeah....in the wild card standings this week at the Cell.

White Sox close to acquiring Soriano
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 03:59 AM) Then looks like 3 way. We get Soriano and Lee, Washington gets McCarthy and Fields goes to Milwaukee. We then flip Carlos Lee to the Mariners for Soriano and a prospect or for JJ Putz. DAMMIT IM A JEANYUS!!! R. Soriano has some injury issues right now. If we need to trade for another reliever, then the MacDougal trade was pointless. BTW, I predict now that we're going to despise MacDougal.

White Sox close to acquiring Soriano
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 03:56 AM) I would much rather trade Fields and Broadway for Soriano than any trade involving McCarthy. I think Fields stock is at an all time high, but I really think he's going to have trouble hitting major league pitching, at least for a long while. I have never been high on Broadway, I think he's a back of the rotation guy at best. I'd try to give up less, but if that what it took to keep him away from Detroit and Minnesota, I would do it, although you really should worry about Minnesota more at this point, and they are after CLee. Yep, if it's Fields/Broadway for Soriano, you do it. Broadway will likely struggle to have success at the Cell, and as you said, Fields stock will never be higher.

White Sox close to acquiring Soriano
QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 03:49 AM) Soriano is exactly what we dont need right now. Sure its fun to have the power in the middle of the line up, but we need bullpen help bad more then anything. If Vas can only go 5 innings, let him and bring in someone else. Soriano wouldnt be an upgrade on defense either. Yeah, our bullpen has really been killing us lately. That damn Bobby Jenks can't be trusted. BTW, Flash Gordon has been brutal for the Phillies lately. Our bullpen is fine....I just wish Ozzie trust them as much as our underachieving starters.

Time To Say Bye Bye To Javy
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 03:43 AM) Jas this is not the first time this has happened. This is not a lets tip our hat to the opposing offense moments here. We have a pattern. To me, Javy is the same thing as our 5th starter is to the 2004 team. He is an autoloss. I bet our team was waiting around for him to detonate. You definitely get this feeling that the team is sitting around waiting for something bad to happen. I don't think this trade deadline madness is going to help anything either.

And That's A White Sox Loss
QUOTE(Frozen_Rope @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 03:40 AM) I guess I'm just a typical Sox fan. I watched every pitch of the playoffs and World Series last year and I can't seem to get my mind around how bad our team is right now. We have a stronger lineup and with the addition of Javier Vasques, we were "supposed" to have a stronger staff. WHAT HAPPENED?! Oh well, I still have the Bears. We had a lot of pitchers have career years, and our bullpen was absolutely sensational. Also, we had a lot of luck last season. That's not to say we were lucky to win it all, but we're seeing this year how the Tigers seem to be catching all the breaks.

And That's A White Sox Loss
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 03:25 AM) There is something very wrong with his line of thinking. He should be getting a lot more crap over this line of thinking than he does. The more the Sox lose, the more people will begin to question Ozzie's strategy (in the media). I'm confident in predicting that if this happens, there will be more than one Ozzie media blow-up. Why can't we just win the rest of our games, and let Ozzie look like a genius.

And That's A White Sox Loss
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 03:23 AM) I really can't blame Ozz. Its hard to listen to the stats that say Javy can't get guys out late in the games, when he throws so dominant and had barely been hit for 5 innings. You and I disagreed on this in the thread, but I think we can both agree that if it's a similar situation in his next start, he needs to get pulled before too much damage can be done. We're facing the Twins bullpen...it's not like the KC bullpen where we can afford to fall behind and then catch up.
