Official Day 1 Draft Thread
Just talked to my source, and he said Colvin was ranked the 130th best prospect in this draft. He also said Perez has some "make-up" problems also (and not in the cosmetic way).

Quick suggestion...can we please list the team that's selecting these guys?

I think the list of people in this thread is quite funny. It's not exactly the same list of posters in the "should the Sox trade for Zambrano" thread.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 05:10 PM) Don't forget Bondy If Drabek isn't taken early, a high schooler won't go in the top 15. He's going to start to get expensive soon though, isn't he?

QUOTE(daa84 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 05:08 PM) miller verlander zumaya wont be fun in 3 years ^^^^^^^ QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 05:08 PM) f***ing Tigers, taking another really really top of the line arm. That's a great pick to continue the momentum the organization has going right now.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 05:04 PM) On Chris Perez -- his stuff looked good. Fastball with movement clocking in at 92, a real good slider at about 80-81. It would depend on the situation, but if he's there, I can see the Sox grabbing him. He has trouble putting on weight, and issues with drinking.......KEEP HIM AWAY FROM JENKS!

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 04:48 PM) Ya, they want Miller to get major bucks and are really trying to push him to the Cubs. That would suck

Official Day 1 Draft Thread
I don't know if this has been discussed, but Miller's people are trying to get him to slip to the Cubs, as they know they'll have tons of money to spend on him (they don't have a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th round pick).

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 04:33 PM) Drabek is going to have to go to the type of team that will just flat out take a chance. He has top 10 talent, but with all the other stuff surrounding him he could drastically fall (even out of the 1st round; although I am hard-pressed to see it happening). A small-to-mid market team will not be taking him. Like I said....the Cubs BTW....who does BA project Drabek going to right now?

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 04:25 PM) So, you're not just thinking his troubles are coming from the 'typical' 18-year old who knows he's going to be a millionaire in a couple months, cocky/arrogant type kid? He seems really talented, no question... Nope....it sounds like he has some serious problems. The Drabek team has been going out of their way to keep things hush-hush, and I've actually been told to keep things quiet that I've heard from my source. It will be interesting to see how far down he drops.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 04:21 PM) If Drabek were to fall, do the Sox take him? Or is there too much 'baggage' there? Too much baggage, in my opinion. I don't think 90 pct of his troubles have even been reported. Watch the Cubs take him, as they usually go for the best available talent.

QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 03:19 AM) Alex White? That's the only name I found that matched your description. Unfortunately, mlb.com doesn't have any video of him. Not sure. I won't find out anymore until the draft starts, so we'll just have to wait and see.

Official Day 1 Draft Thread
I heard a legit rumor that the Sox are interested in taking a North Carolina high school pitcher in the 2nd or 3rd round. His last name is White, and they've offered him a pretty big deal. My source wasn't very impressed with him.

Gay baseball players
Piazza is married....so I do think it was actually just a popular rumor. I've heard a few names, but obviously, it's impossible to prove. Thus, it's just a bunch of speculation.

2006 MLB Catch-All Thread
I just thought I'd let everyone know that Zambrano has a NO-HITTER thru 5 innings tonight. Again, Zambrano has not allowed a hit thru the first 5 innings.

Gay baseball players
I'm pretty sure Zambrano and Michael Barrett are openly gay. Barrett punched AJP after he asked him out, and AJP said no. In all honesty, there aren't an openly gay players in the majors.

Backup Outfielders and now Relievers
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 5, 2006 -> 09:11 PM) Because our manager is in love with matchups based on which hand someone was blessed with. I'm probably the last person on this site who has credibility regarding this subject, but I don't think Ozzie's done a good job of managing this season. As Jas pointed out, he's completely butched McCarthy and Anderson this year, and it really seems as if this season has retarded McCarthy's growth. The use of Ozuna in LF is pathetic, and you really have to question Ozzie's handling of the starting/relief staff in terms of early or quick hook. It seems like Vazquez and Garcia have the longest hooks possible, while Garland has a quicker hook. I'm sure I'll probably be attacked for criticizing Ozzie, but everyone's always said that his best asset is being able to pump up his team. We've been flat for a while now, and the remarks in the press from certain players is disturbing (McCarthy, Buehrle, etc). There's a long way to go this season....hopefully no one panics. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 5, 2006 -> 09:29 PM) Also, why does he do it half-assed? He'll have BMAC face a lefty and get torched, even though Thornton is warmed up. Did the same thing when Politte gave up a base runner and Chavez was up next. There's been some instances where Ozzie seemed more afraid about the hitter on deck, instead of the actual guy up to bat. A prime example was when he let Cotts face Barrett, with Jones on deck. Instead, if Ozzie had been more proactive, you bring in Jenks to face Barrett, and you hope that Jones leads off the next inning.
