  1. Maybe the Bears would have less injuries if they weren't busy knocking each other out! News reports tonight say that Kreutz punched Fred Miller in the jaw, and that's how he injured himself.
  2. QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 03:32 AM) If the sox were looking at a right handed hitting DH [which I don't think will happen--maybe if he's a switch hitter], a guy like Nomar would be better than Piazza. I'm surprised LAA haven't been mentioned with them for DH. The Angels are more interested in getting PK, and then worrying about their DH situation after that. Nomar won't be playing DH next season.
  3. Piazza would fit in with the other guys who look clueless against a righty slider.
  4. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Nov 13, 2005 -> 09:46 PM) eddie guerrero abused drugs and alcohol and while he and everyone else in the wrestling world uses steroids, they are not the reason he died. rip eddie. If he was the first wrestler to die in the last 10 years from a heart attack, then I would agree with you. However, this has become a pattern with wresters when they reach the 35-45 year old range.
  5. As it is far too common in the world of wrestling, Eddy Guerrero was found dead today of a likely heart attack. And you wonder why baseball is trying to prevent players from abusing steroids also?
  6. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 03:52 AM) There's no way we would get Teixeira for Contreras. And even if the Rangers would make that trade, Reinsdorf isn't going to want Teixeira when his agent his Boras and he's going to want a 10 year contract for huge money soon. I never said we'd get him straight up, but it was a hypothetical situation in which KW shouldn't rule out trading Contreras. I think there's a better chance of getting Dunn in a trade, even though I know a lot of people dislike him on here.
  7. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 03:46 AM) Kenny won't sacrifice any of the big 5 in our rotation for Delgado or any other hitter minus Pujols and other guys who won't be traded. Kenny knows that he won the WS with pitching and won't compromise that when searching for a LH power hitter. I wouldn't say it's so cut and dry that he won't trade one of the 5 starters. I know that many disagree with me on this point, but I think there's a chance that KW will trade either Contreras, Garcia, or Garland this offseason if the offer is something he can't refuse. It's HIGHLY unlikely the Sox would be able to afford both Garland and Contreras after this upcoming season. Their value will likely never be higher, so I don't think KW should just say no chance in hell. Everyone here knows that I would be willing to trade Contreras for a marquee hitter like Dunn or Teixeira.
  8. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 03:44 AM) You missed that the Marlins aren't trying to take on extra contracts. They have no need for Patterson which is why he wouldn't be included in a deal unless you're talking about Eric Patterson who would be a viable option to replace Alex Gonzalez. Eric Patterson = 2B And if they have no need for Patterson, then why would they need Rowand? Rowand has more years left on his contract that C. Patterson does.
  9. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 03:42 AM) You didn't answer the question. And BTW, they are trying to shed payroll. Rowand is better than Pierre. Hill is a good pitching prospect who some think is the next Barry Zito which would work in Miami. Marte still is a decent RP, despite him being our worst reliever. Rogo also is a pretty good 1B prospect, but I just threw him in as a prospect. They might want Sean Tracey instead. But it won't take one of our 6 SP's. There are going to be a ton of teams in the Delgado sweepstakes if he's available at such a cheap price. Teams like the Dodgers, Orioles, Red Sox, etc. will definitely be interested. Hell, are we even sure he wants to play in Chicago? I know he turned down the Sox last year (even though I know things have changed). I guess all this debate is what we deserve arguing about something that Mr. Zero, Bruce Levine, said.
  10. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 03:39 AM) Oh really? Enlighten me as who they could get that would equal that package? Keep in mind that the team has to be willing to take that contract(at least 13 mil). The only way any deal with Pierre includes Patterson is if Lowell is thrown in. The Marlins don't want to take on more contracts than they have to. Did I miss Patterson sign a new contract? Last I heard, he's still a financially cheap option. If the Marlins do trade Delgado, they're definitely going to try and get a MLB caliber starting pitcher in the deal.
  11. If the Marlins GM ends up trading Delgado and Pierre for Rich Hill, Rowand, Marte, and Rogo......then he should win the award for worse executive ever. Hell, maybe we can throw in Vizcaino in the deal, and get Miguel Cabrera!
  12. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 03:33 AM) Patterson wouldn't have to be included. In fact, the Marlins would prefer his contract to be kept out of any potential deal. Hill would be the guy in the deal. We fill two of their needs and give them a 1B prospect who could fill the hole in 2 years. So basically, we're giving them what they need(not luxuries) for a guy they need to get rid of because of his big contract. I don't think Contreras is needed in the deal at all. Any Pierre deal to the Cubs will almost definitely include Patterson in it. Patterson's contact you mention? I've never heard anyone mention anything about it be a problem. I guarantee you that they could get a MUCH better deal for Delgado than 3 players like the ones mentioned.
  13. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 03:29 AM) I don't think so. The Cubs, even though the Marlins want Pie, will most likely give up Rich Hill(a starter with lots of upside) for Pierre. That leaves the Marlins needing a CFer (Rowand). They also need relievers to bridge the gap between their starters and Todd Jones(assuming they resign him) which would be Damaso. Now we might have to throw in a prospect like Rogo, but I would be fine with that considering we would have Delgado and Kong. Patterson will also be included in any Pierre deal, and he'll be their CF. Rowand, Marte, and Rogo are not enough to get Delgado, let alone have the Marlins pay some of his contract. Don't forget that the Marlins love Contreras and that they think he'd be a hit with the Cubans by playing in Florida.
  14. Um, are some people forgetting what we'd have to give up to get Delgado? It would probably cost the Sox Contreras, and put us without a 5th starter again.
  15. When evaluating any player, you can only give so much credence to their stats before the 2005 season.
  16. Here's my thought on Duque: We all knew he was a risky proposition when we gave him 2 years guaranteed. No way can he be counted on as a starter next year, and he'll likely be on the DL about 2 months out of the season. Will he be paid too much for his 2006 role? Most likely yes. However, he contributed when we needed him in the postseason, so it will make it a lot easier to swallow.
  17. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 10:05 PM) That's honestly the biggest reason I wouldn't want Aaron traded: him, Joe, and AJ are so close and I just don't want to mess with the chemistry of this club. That being said if Aaron could be the center piece for a big bat you obviously have to look into it. As much as Rowand disappointed me at the plate last season, he impressed me just as much with his leadership and attitude. However, if you can trade him with the big picture being that he's a piece to acquire a marquee power hitter, then I have no problem getting rid of him.
  18. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 09:47 PM) Um...el duque. You want to trade Aaron for a top notch starting pitcher and do what with him?? I don't understand what you're trying to say, and if you want to trade him for a prospect I actually have to agree that, that is taking a step backwards, no need to trade Arow for a minor leaguer when you're going to have the Duke to back them up. My idea for trading Rowand would be to get a starter that's coveted by other teams (like Wang), and then use that starter to acquire a hitter. Thus, we wouldn't have to give up one of our core starting pitchers (the heart of this team), and we have Rowand's replacement in CF as a cheap player with a lot of potential. The thing that could be important is giving Anderson the shot in the outfield before the minor league guys below him are ready for the majors.
  19. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 09:45 PM) Rowand = Kotsay Hunter >>> Kotsay Kotsay's arm is infinitely better than Rowand's arm. Hunter's better than both guys when healthy.
  20. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 09:41 PM) I don't think Rowand would be traded in a deal for Delgado if Pierre is dealt to the Cubs. Why? Because FLA wants Pie if for Pierre from the Cubs. Not a chance in hell they get Pie for Pierre. More than likely, Hendry will get the better end of the deal, and it will likely be Patterson and Wellemeyer for Pierre.
  21. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 09:08 PM) Hudson and Rowand are attracting a lot of attention because they're not just mid-level players. Hudson is the best defensive 2B in the game. That + and average bat is extremely valuable. Rowand is one of the best CFers in the game. CF, specifically in a spacious ballpark, is the most important defensive posistion on the field. Rowand is also only a year removed from a top 10 OPS season in the AL. -- These guys are very good players. Mench can hit HRs, doesn't strike out a lot, and is cheap, thus his value. When I say mid-level, I don't mean that they're average players. Rather, they're not near the superstar level either though. If you've seen the names being thrown around in deals for these guys, you would have thought they were superstars. With the weak FA market, more teams are looking to acquire their big players via trades this offseason.
  22. Well, I guess since the expert has spoken, there's no reason to follow the hot stove this offseason.
  23. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 05:57 PM) I still don't want Rowand traded until after the '06 season. Unless a trade comes up for Delgado, I really don't want to see Row moved. The .900 OPS CF from '04 was so f***in' good, he needs one more season to prove it wasn't a fluke. Or you could trade him now while he still has value. Another subpar offensive season from him, and teams wouldn't be willing to give up much for him at all. From what it seems, mid-level players like Rowand, Orlando Hudson, and Mench are attracting a lot of attention, and there seems to be a pretty nice sized price tag for them also.
  24. If you were to trade Rowand for C. Wang, then you could turn around and include Wang in any trade to try and upgrade our offense. Thus, the Sox could possibly avoid having to give up one of their big 5 starters for next season.
  25. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 06:39 AM) I don't really buy that about Walker. He still has a lot of value because he is a great stick and makes barely anything ($2.5 million). By the way, Eduardo Perez is 36 years old. I'd rather bring Frank back very cheaply, hope he can stay healthy, and have Gload as a backup DH/1B. Even though I gave my suggestions, I think the most likely scenario is PK signs with the Red Sox, Gload isn't brought back, and Frank signs for about 2.5 mil. Of course, I still stand by my blind prediction from 5 months ago that Carlos Pena will be the starting 1B for the 2006 White Sox (no reasoning for that psychic vision). BTW, I know people suggest that if PK leaves, we should use guys like Rowand, Duque, and Marte to try and trade for a new 1B. I think a trade chip that should really be used is Politte, who on a team like the Tigers might think he can be a closer. We can make Steff happy, and sign Urbina then.
