Sox interested in Mike Myers; Marte being shopped
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 05:00 AM) I bet he gets 2/$5M with a 3rd year option, small buyout Well, I would be pissed beyond belief if we gave him that deal.

Sox interested in Mike Myers; Marte being shopped
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 04:58 AM) You'd be suprised. I'll guarantee that Myers won't get more than 2 million in a season. About $1.5 million seems more likely.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 04:46 AM) I am, and i was for Deron and Luther. I honestly could care less what these guys do in the NBA (i mean i'd rather have them be successful, but you know what i mean) And you are correct about his shooting. But right now, he can't even make the open shots when he does have time to get his body under him. I don't understand it. Krush...you seem like an intelligent Illini fan. You know how a lot of the posters on the illiniboard seem to mention Dee's NBA career every other hour. Congrats on the win though...and congrats on getting Gordon.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 04:40 AM) I know. But he still didn't hit some open shots. He can't just limit himself to scoring in transition. If he's an all-american, he can't let a good defender make him shoot that terribly. Dee does a TERRIBLE job at squaring up for shots coming off of the dribble. He's a very good shooter when he gets the ball passed to him and can get his body underneath him. However, when he pulls up off the dribble, there aren't many worse shooters than he is. He was fading away on a lot of his shots tonight also. I've never thought that he projects as a NBA player, and everyone should be more concerned with how he does for the Illini than what this means for his NBA career.

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 04:33 AM) Don't get to down on Dee. Marcus Ginyard is an elite defender, even as a freshmen. He's going to lock down alot of good point guards this year. Thats one thing this Carolina team can do, is defend. Now shooting and rebounding, thats yet to be found. R. Terry looks absolutely awful. I know he was supposed to be the main scorer for UNC this year, but his shooting has been pathetic so far. UNC is going to have a tough time making the tournament this year, as I think they'll struggle to win on the road in the ACC.

konerko says no to the O's
No surprise there. I think PK is going to decide sooner rather than later. I'll be shocked if he hasn't picked a team before the end of this week.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 04:13 AM) Illini are playing like garbage, but finding ways to win. The development of the team will improve greatly when Brown is moved back to off guard where he belongs. He's not moving anywhere. They have no other point guard. Maybe I'm missing something, but Frazier looks awful when I've watched him.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 03:58 AM) Dee Brown is playing absolutely terrible right now. Good win for the Illini, but Dee's absolutely not a point guard. He can't create his own shot if his life depended on it, and he's not a good creator.

Official Re-sign Paul Konerko Thread
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 12:22 AM) George Offman did say that Konerko is leaning heavily toward returning to the Sox. If I didn't know better, I would think that someone recently told Offman that PK is coming back. He thought a decision would be made before Friday. He also said that Thome talked to him on the phone.

IF the don't sign Paulie
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 09:02 PM) I think they would have taken Gio Gonzalez and Daniel Haigwood for him. Very likely, but since we've traded them, I don't think it's really possible for the Sox to get Overbay now.

IF the don't sign Paulie
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 08:59 PM) Overbay is available and the Brewers want young, cheap starting pitching. We just gave that up for Thome. Overbay is overrated anyways. Good OBP but do you really want only a 20 homerun guy at 1B/DH? They turned down McGowan straight up for Overbay. The Brewers don't think Fielder is ready for the beginning of next season, so they're going to have to be blown away by an offer to do it. I don't think they're a good fit with the Sox right now.

IF the don't sign Paulie
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 08:35 PM) If this were last year, I would agree with you. But look at the FA Market this year. There's a reason BJ Ryan is getting so much. There's a reason Giles is asking for a 5 year deal. This FA Market is horrific. Last year, we were able to find bargains in people like Dye, AJ, and Iguchi. Can you see anyone who's left out there who is a potential bargain other than a guy like Nomar or Thomas who has been hurt for years? I think any significant addition to this team will come via trade.

This is fantastic news. I still don't trust Marte for next season, but I think he does have some trade value still.

IF the don't sign Paulie
QUOTE(JimH @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 08:30 PM) No, I wouldn't see that at all. I do not see this as an either-or situation. JimH and I clearly don't agree on much during the season. However, I agree with almost everything he's stated during this offseason. If we lose PK, I'm not going to start conceeding the division to the other teams. If anything, I'd be excited to see what additions KW would make to this team.

IF the don't sign Paulie
QUOTE(mr_genius @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 08:26 PM) and who are these players you speak of. Like JimH said, we're not the GM. However, if we have to pay PK that much money, you're going to see us not spend as much in other areas. If the PK contract prevents us from extending the deals for Garland and AJP, then I think it's a bad trade. Look at how much money average pitchers like Loaiza are getting in the FA market. If we don't extend Garland now, we're almost definitely going to lose him and Contreras after this year. Since we just gave up 2 of our best starting prospects, we need to keep as many of these core starters as possible.

IF the don't sign Paulie
QUOTE(JimH @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 08:12 PM) I wouldn't do $13M for 5 years but that's just me. If this is true, I see Plan B coming into clearer focus. I agree. Every day now, it seems like not bringing back PK might be the Sox best option. Don't get me wrong people, PK is a good player. However, he's not a 13 million dollar a year player, and I honestly think there are other players out there who can benefit our team just as much as he can, but for a lot less money.

IF the don't sign Paulie
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 07:00 PM) Who said Uribe k'd to much? Iguchi gets on base at a better clip then Juan and he also can control the bat much better then Uribe. I love Juan but he can't handle the bat, he has no clue where he's trying to hit the ball half the time. He's just not a good 2 hitter. Post 49 in this thread has a statement that Uribe K's too much. I don't want to butcher the cut/paste, so I'll just refer to post 49.

IF the don't sign Paulie
QUOTE(illinilaw08 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 06:55 PM) Yes but Iguchi handles the back well in terms of hitting the ball the other way, not being a free swinger. Based on Juan's swing mechanics, I just do not see him as being a hitter who will go the other way and move the runner over. Most importantly I dont see him fitting into the role where he will take pitches to hit so Pods can run. Iguchi also gave up way too many ABs when taking those pitches from Pods, and ended up striking out cause he was down in the count. Uribe is the type of guy that if you force him to go the other way with pitches, you could really end up helping him. I don't think either guy should be batting 2nd, to be honest. Iguchi should be batting 6th, and Uribe 8th.

IF the don't sign Paulie
If the Sox got LeCroy, we'd hear the phrase "country strong" from Hawk about 1000 times in the season between him and Thome.

IF the don't sign Paulie
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 06:49 PM) It'll be Iguchi unless Owens is somehow the starting cf which I highly doubt or if we trade for a 2 hitter. He's still a much better option then Juan. I still think it will be Juan Pierre (who I don't want on the Sox). And for people saying Uribe K's too much....SO DOES IGUCHI!

IF the don't sign Paulie
Remember this: Ozzie fears Stairs more than any other hitter in baseball.

IF the don't sign Paulie
QUOTE(JimH @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 06:39 PM) The Twins cut him, what does that tell you Josh? That had more to do with the roster situation than anything else. He's a great platoon player/3rd string catcher. However, I don't think we're in the market for that type of player, as Ozzie doesn't really like to use platoon players. I still think we would do well to get a righty power hitter for the bench. Eduardo Perez is a real solid bench player.

Paulie's offer
QUOTE(JimH @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 05:50 PM) IMO this team is far from done in terms of personnel moves. FAR from done. They are always planning ahead and if Konerko doesn't re up they've got Plan B firmly in place, KW and Hahn are not gonna get caught with their pants down. And I will guarantee that Ross Gload isn't part of Plan A/B/C/D, etc.

Paulie's offer
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 05:41 PM) This lineup wouldn't be all that bad but you're probably right. It looks like we'd be missing a big stick in the middle of the lineup. Podsednik LF Mueller DH/3B Thome 1B Dye RF Iguchi 2B Pierzynski C Crede 3B/DH Anderson CF Uribe SS That lineup would get you 3rd place in the AL Central

Paulie's offer
QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 04:03 PM) Don't forget we are the defending world champions also. And how can we forget Pauly saying "What is it going to take for baseball people to realize we are a good team? And I came up with 1 thing... We are just going to have to go ahead and do this again next year" If Pauly is a man of his word- he will be back here! There's a few reasons why I think PK might be back next season, but I'm not going to put any stock into what he said at a victory rally. If victory rally speeches meant anything, Illinois would be facing Sean May tonight in their game.
