Bill Mueller To Sox?
Mueller might be brought in as a DH/back-up 3B. I HIGHLY doubt he's being brought in as a utility player.

More Levine 'Rumors'
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 22, 2005 -> 04:10 PM) BTW Howry to cubs for 12 million. Is that official? That's a ridiculous contract.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 22, 2005 -> 03:31 PM) I think you are thinking of their PG Rondo. 19 rebounds from a point guard is unheard of.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Nov 22, 2005 -> 03:54 PM) Yep, he gone...But I would think Rowand goes to Philly for Thome. Then Marte for Pierre. That's really the only sensible thing I see out of this cluster of rumors. Quick question: Why do people think Marte and a mid-level prospect will be enough to get Pierre?

More Levine 'Rumors'
What cracks me up is that he said the teams were in serious negotiations with these players involved.

The title of this thread should probably be changed.

Bob Nightengale: Sox Tell Phills They Want Thome
QUOTE(S720 @ Nov 22, 2005 -> 02:12 PM) Per Bruce Levine this morning, Phillies want Rowand AND Contreras/BMAC for Jim Thome. If this is the case, I say, "THE HELL WITH YOU! I'll stick with my players then." I heard the same thing. Levine said they were in serious negotiations. This would be an awful, awful trade.

Am I the only one that thinks we've seen the last of Rowand in a White Sox uniform?

QUOTE(JimH @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 03:58 PM) Just because you don't like it or agree with it doesn't mean it won't happen. Again, I am taking emotion out of it and listening to what the manager has said, and we both know he has lots of say so in terms of how the team is made up. As you said, trading for Pierre is a lot more realistic than some of the ideas I see posted on here. I'm not a fan of Pierre, but I think he could be a better number 2 hitter than Iguchi. Iguchi K'd quite often last year cause he would get 2 strikes on him letting Pods get a read/steal. With Pierre, you would have someone who could handle the bat better with 2 strikes. Also, Pierre is available, and he's someone that Ozzie is very familiar with. I know it's ironic for me to say this, but people don't need to freak out about every single trade rumor or even possible transaction. The coaching staff/KW has earned our trust, and unless they trade Mark Buehrle for Carl Everett again in a few months, we should just enjoy whatever product they put on the field.

If we could trade Rowand and Duque for Thome and a lot of cash, it would be a fantastic trade.

QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 02:53 AM) We lose the clutch RBI's of Carl from last year, but if Iguchi proves to be a viable middle-of-the-order type hitter in the Major Leagues, all works out well. Could this be what Ozzie & KW are thinking? For every clutch hit by Everett, there were also one or two other ABs with RISP where he struck out on a curve in the dirt. He's the last guy I'm worried about replacing on the Sox, to be honest.

QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 02:59 AM) "I bet there's 2 or 3 players on every team in baseball whose fans think the same way. Stats prior to the 2005 season shouldn't be used when evaluating players, sadly." Huh? You just argued that only stats from the previous season should be used to evaulate players? That makes no sense at all for a variety of reasons, the most obvious being small sample size. I won't bother to highlight the other deficiences with that way of thinking. In the age of steroids, it's too hard to tell who was on the juice and who wasn't. Look how many players went from superstar to league average this season? In past years, there used to be a lot more players who went from league average to superstar. However, with drug testing involved, it's made it a whole new game. I bet the Mariners want to know what happened to Beltre's 50 homer power. I bet the Orioles wish they didn't spend so much more on Javy Lopez now. I put a hell of a lot more stock into how a player performed in 2005 compared to 2004. If you have someone like Pujols or ARod who kept up their great stats from previous seasons, then there's no problem with using their previous stats to evaluate them.

QUOTE(Felix @ Nov 20, 2005 -> 11:33 PM) If A-Row's offense would return to 2004, and his defense maintained its high level, he would be one of, if not the, best CF's in the game. I bet there's 2 or 3 players on every team in baseball whose fans think the same way. Stats prior to the 2005 season shouldn't be used when evaluating players, sadly.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 20, 2005 -> 10:31 PM) Your right, they did lose to George Mason. At the same time Mason lost by like 5 to Wake Forest and thats Mason's only loss. Yeah, George Mason is a very solid team, that returns some very good players. Even though I think UC-Irvine is a good team, don't forget Stanford was without their best player, IMO, Haryasz. Stanford really needs to do something with their soft court, as their players frequently hurt themselves.

Blockbuster Move -- Boston & Florida
QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 20, 2005 -> 11:25 AM) I like Gonzalez but Rowand wouldn't be part of this trade. Marte and a good pitching prospect could work. We're not going to get Pierre and Gonzalez for Marte and a pitching prospect. That would be a massive steal. The Marlins wanted Wang and a prospect for Pierre alone.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 20, 2005 -> 01:09 AM) Woot Woot Anteaters. They got a really good coach and thus far this year they have been squashing everyone they played. They could be able to pull off an upset or two if they make the tourney. Didn't they lose by over 20 to George Mason?

Blockbuster Move -- Boston & Florida
QUOTE(redandwhite @ Nov 19, 2005 -> 07:54 PM) Lester is going to be a top 20-25 pitcher in baseball, I feel. A perennial 15-20 game winner. Until they prove anything in the majors, it's too hard to tell. A top 20-25 pitcher in baseball is extremly high praise. I don't even think McCarthy will reach that status, and he's already shown he can do well in the majors.

Blockbuster Move -- Boston & Florida
Redandwhite...in no way is this directed at you. However, which trade rumor wouldn't be complete without the Yankees or Red Sox being involved. Next thing you know, we'll hear the Cubs are involved also!
-
Blockbuster Move -- Boston & Florida
Blalock's work ethic and adjustment ability is very poorly thought of by MLB scouts.

If Rowand was moved...
Pods should never play CF unless it's in emergency duty!

Lets stir up the pot a bit
QUOTE(knightni @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 08:26 PM) Chris Young, Gio Gonzalez, and Lance Broadway might pique Seattle's interest. Not a chance in hell I would give up those 3 players for any player not named Albert Pujols.

Carl Everett?
QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 08:49 PM) too early to say about the Everett deals. Obviously they worked as our goals were to win a ring. I still be Frankie Francisco will be a superstud, if not in baseball then in the wwe Rupe has looked pretty solid also.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 06:41 PM) McBride will be solid if he stays healthy. Last year's offense was based on the perimeter, so that's where the defense focused, and as a result, Rich simply didn't get a lot of open looks. Umm...he got wide open 3 after wide open 3 last year due to the terrific ball movement and the fact the other 4 guys were the focus of the defense. Far too often, he was way off on his shot. Also, since he does absolutely nothing to generate offense besides his 3 point shooting, he was worthless on the court.

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 06:27 PM) Really? So they are just in the 'dumping mode'? They can have a prospect or 2, but they also need to EAT a lot of his rediculous contract. No, they asked for King Felix!

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 06:26 PM) Being the defending champions- THAT BETTER NOT HAPPEN! That would be a serious shot at our fans. The good thing is I'm pretty sure JR, KW, and Ozzie realize this.
