I'll take Cotts out of the bullpen in a heartbeat over Buehrle. A lot of the time, you need that lefty to come in and strike out a batter. Cotts is much more likely to K someone.

It would force KW to swallow some pride, but trading Pods could be a great idea for the Sox this offseason. I completely agree with everyone who says we can't have both him and Rowand in the outfield. Since Rowand's defense is vastly superior, and he plays a more premium position, there's no doubt Pods should be a trade possibility.

QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 05:35 PM) no. now is the time of the year to start killing em....i have been using this offshore book for about 6 years now.... www.sportingbetusa.com For the next few days, I would do a 4 team parlay with the Sox to lose, and the other three teams to win.

2-0 Red Sox in the 2nd. Do these teams ever lose?
-
The Red Sox look to be jumping all over the Blue Jays. The Blue Jays have a pretty weak lineup for the first game also. One more Red Sox and Yankees lose before this weekend would be HUGE.
-
I just hope that if McCarthy doesn't have a superhuman game, that people don't start bashing him. He's been pitching tremendous lately, but it's not realistic to expect another 7-0 or 8-1 out of him. We need to start scoring 5 runs each game.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 05:11 PM) How has Kazmir been pitching lately? I haven't paid much attention to him since the early part of the season. He had one great start vs the Indians, and one horrific start. Tonight is the best chance the DRays have for a win.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 04:40 PM) One quick thing, the White Sox have a problem of winning. Then they don't deserve to make the playoffs.
-
Here's the beauty about this last week: all four teams involved in the race control their own destiny. If they win, they're in the playoffs. Lose, and they're likely out.
-
The players are pressing in RISP situations over the last few weeks. And as much as jphat might want you to believe, our hitters aren't even coming close to getting the big hit in the situations you mentioned. A ton of strikeouts or weak pop ups.

I can guarantee you that KW had no intention of trading Rowand for the length of his deal heading into this season.
-
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 02:46 PM) Yet KW was still vilified for the lack of a move. For the lack of an offensive move. I don't think it would be right at all, but KW will be the scapegoat if this team doesn't make the playoffs.

QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 02:34 PM) I thought yesterday was going to be a sure victory. The scary thing is that with the Sox offense, there's no guarantee that they'll win a game the rest of the year. They're not like the Yanks or Red Sox where they can just go blow the other team out in the first few innings on a weekly basis. Games like Saturday night are more like a monthly occurence for the Sox.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 02:30 PM) You have to relax with the media Fathom. You always seem to be very worried about what everyone thinks of us, and how the Cubs are going to look when we lose/win. The media should be the least of the Sox worries, or for that matter the fans. Lets focus on getting the W. Tony....I could care less what the media says right now. I know every article will be about how they're choking. There are a handful of posters on this site that seemingly cry themselves to sleep if there's a negative article in the paper about this team. Like you said though, and I couldn't agree more, is that the focus should be getting a win. However, when I see Ozzie and AJP whine in the media that there are so many negative articles about the team, I then think that the bad press has really made this team lose a little focus. Hey boys....I don't care how many wins you end up with, but if you blow a 15 game lead on August 1st, that's a disappointing season.

Don't forget that there wasn't a chance in hell that Burnett would resign here.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 02:24 PM) Mariotti is the #1 most read columnist for Sox fans. LMAO at everyone that hates him and reads every one of his columns. Posts about his columns. Talks about his columns. Until the Sox make the playoffs, the main word that will be associated with the team is choke. Mariotti is the type of guy who makes money off of being highly critical of things. It was quite predictable with him....bash the Bears on Monday after they lose, and then write a bad article on the Sox when they lose.
-
This is a huge game, cause if the Sox lose, and the Yanks, Indians, and Red Sox will all their games, the Sox would have a 1 game lead on the 3 teams in contention. That's when the media will have a field day with the word choke.
-
Note to Sox hitters: When Robertson gets 2 strikes on the hitter, he'll try to get the K looking on an inside fastball.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 05:57 AM) I don't think we're gonna win a game in Cleveland. No way. Does anybody out there think we can win a game in Cleveland? After their incredible comeback they will not stop letting us win a game there. Can we still realistically claim the wild card? Can't win a game in Cleveland? Funny that this is coming from me, but have a little faith in this team. If we don't even belong on the same field as the Indians, then I could care less if the Sox make the playoffs. The Sox need to win a maximum of 3 games to guarantee a playoff bith.
-
Worst case scenario for this Tigers series is that the Sox have to at least win one game. Thus, we'd only need one more win in the Cleveland series in order to guarantee a wild card play-in game. Like I said, that's the worst case scenario for this week that could still end up being ok in the long run.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 02:30 AM) I thought Rowand should hit 3rd as well, but after tonight? Man he looked absolutely pathetic up there against a mediocre pitcher. The offense still blows no matter who hits 3rd. So f'n frustrated right now. Rowand's a totally different hitter against lefties.

For anyone making comparisons regarding the late seasons collapse of the 2004 Cubs and the 2005 White Sox, Curtis Granderson = Victor Diaz (Chicago born player who helped beat the Cubs last year).

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 03:01 AM) We all know how easy it is to 2nd guess Ozzie, and it is. I just think in September, with the big roster, there are other options for Ozzie to use. The blame for this game definitely goes on AJP. It's disappointing to see the terrible approach some of our veterans, like AJP and Everett, have had down the stretch. I respect that Ozzie is going with the 9 guys that got us this far, but why not give one of the benchers a chance to give us a spark in a game? Play 8 of the core guys, and put someone like Gload/Borchard/Anderson into the game. The Yanks have got a big lift from Bubba Crosby lately. As I said in a post last night, there's a difference between making a guy a "starter", and just sitting him out one game.
-
QUOTE(JimH @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 02:59 AM) What's your point? You said that AJP had to bat there because Spurling was up in the pen.
-
QUOTE(JimH @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 02:39 AM) Amusing. Some of you guys b**** at Guillen for lefty-righty pitching matchups and then crucify him when he doesn't pinch hit for Pierzynski with Spurling out there. Pierzynski is a contact hitter, doesn't K much, supposed to be clutch. Seems to me it was Pierzynski's fault, freaking awful at bat from my view. AJP was facing Walker. No matter who was up, Walker was pitching to the batter.
