Also, I'm done "thanking" Ozzie. It was just a matter of time before people finally caught on that he's not the sharpest of managers.
-
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 07:36 PM) Why not thank Ozzie? L - Duque would be a disasterous choice. I have no confidence we can beat Santana, no matter who's on the mound.

Well....Saturday is a loss. Thanks Gardenhire!

Who's your game 1 starter for the playoffs?
fathom replied to sin city sox fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Jon Garland. He's been our top pitcher against the best teams all season. -
QUOTE(longshot7 @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 06:47 PM) Right now: game 1 - Contreras game 2 - McCarthy game 3 - Garcia game 4 - Garland game 5 - Buehrle (repeat) McCarthy won't be starting in the playoffs. To think he would pitch before Buehrle and Garland is not giving those two guys enough respect for getting us this far this season, but also is completely ignoring the type of manager that Ozzie is.

QUOTE(soxfan3530 @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 05:35 PM) we could really use a sweep here boys! lets get it rollin' Can we ban the word "sweep" from soxtalk?

We're going to need Marte down the stretch more against teams like the Indians and Twins than we would likely need him in the playoffs. I know Marte has been struggling, but this team needs him. If he's not available, Ozzie has to make better use out of guys like Cotts and Jenks.

I guess the Sun Times has a crystal ball and can see into the future that the Sox have made the playoffs.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 04:36 PM) If only I had the power, I would banish all playoff threads until we clinch. No kidding. That's why no matter what my response is, I put in the disclaimer of "If we make the playoffs"! The thing is, as much as people like you and I complain about these threads, it doesn't have one ounce of influence on what happens on the field.

The lead female is just a terrible actress. The show is entertaining, and it definitely reminds me of 24 with all of the twists and turns.

Bring back PK, get rid of Frank and Everett. Everett doesn't bring enough to the team besides his streaky power. I'd rather find someone who can help execute a little better, and isn't such a health risk.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 03:03 PM) Right now they've got Vazquez, Webb, Vargas, Ortiz and Halsey in the rotation. They're stuck with Ortiz (worst contract in the off-season), Webb and Halsey are still young and good, Vargas has come on very strong since he was acquired and will get a chance to start next year, while Vazquez is going nowhere unless he demands a trade. So they may have to trade someone from there first, if they are going to fit in a Contreras. So it comes down to the bullpen. Jeff Bajenaru and Damaso Marte, would be 2 good chips to use, chuck in say a good pitching prospect like Sean Tracey, Arizona may have some interest there. Can't Vazquez request a trade? The other position I was thinking that they could use help is in the outfield. I know some Sox fans on here might not like to hear it, but someone like Chris Young could be a very valuable trade chip. Question: would you rather trade Rowand or Chris Young, with the thought that Brian Anderson could play CF for the next few seasons? I'd rather trade Rowand.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 02:05 PM) Didn't he beat us in the 2000 playoffs? I thought we hit him good before Cy Tomko came in for relief and shut us down in game one?
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 02:02 PM) Right now if the D-Backs and Brewers asking price was exactly the same for Chad Tracy and Lyle Overbay, I would have to go with trading for Tracy. And with the D-Backs having Clark, Gonzalez, Green, Quentin, Jackson, Glaus and Tracy for what 5 spots in 2006, they're going to have to trade one of those, so they can upgrade their pitching as well. A Damaso Marte for instance would be a good bargaining chip to use. Arizona will want some starting pitching for Tracy. I can definitely picture trading Contreras and Marte for someone like Overbay or Tracy.

IF the Sox make the playoffs, and IF the Sox have a home game in the first game, Garcia shouldn't be starting. He's obviously been better on the road this season. And as for his playoff experience, I don't remember him having too much success.

QUOTE(JimH @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 01:21 PM) Josh ... please don't take this situation too seriously. I can't believe how serious some people take the broadcasting situation. Now, I know there's a lot of people that can only listen to the games via radio. For those people, I can understand the concern. However, there's a lot of people who have been going nuts over the last few weeks regarding Rooney's departure who I know are able to watch all the games on television. Maybe it's just me, but I've always cared a lot more about the team on the field than anything off of the field regarding the organization.

Isn't Torborg's son associated with the team? You know, the wrestler formerly known as the Demon in WCW!

Marte might suck right now, but I feel a lot more comfortable with him on the roster than off of the roster. Remember how much it sucked when Walker was our 2nd lefty out of the bullpen? David Sanders hasn't exactly impressed so far. I hope Marte takes a few days to just step away from the game, breathe, and regroup for the rest of the season. I guarantee he'll be on the mound again in a crucial situation.

Idea about how to bring Frank Back Next year
fathom replied to White Sox Josh's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 11:53 PM) Angels are on record that they don't want him, according to Bill Plaschke of the LA Times. Interesting. Ken Rosenthal wasted a lot of time talking about it then a few weeks ago. Hell, I'll take Bonds if no one else wants him -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 11:15 PM) I think Anaheim may give him a pretty good incentive laden deal. They'll gladly play him if he's healthy and is so desperate for a DH. They may go after Paulie, but Paulie is staying on the South Side (or so I hope). I have a feeling the Angels have their eyes on Mr. Bonds. -
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 09:24 PM) Care to explain this thinking................. Just what we need.....to get rid of our best power hitter. I would take Crede over Mueller if it meant not having to downgrade from Konerko to someone like Hatteberg.
-
QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 08:07 PM) I know he's going to be on there. But one can only dream. That is IF we even get to the postseason. You and I share a common belief about things right now. This team has to make the playoffs before any postseason roster moves should be even considered. Of course, some of us have been saying this for 2 months now. Lets just win!!!
-
I got blasted for suggesting Frank was a selfish hitter this season. We need an offensive upgrade for next year, but no way can you count on Thomas to ever recover from his injury to help you on a consistent basis.
-
You have to be nuts to think Ozzie will leave Duque off the postseason roster (if he doesn't blow our chance to make it before then).
-
The first of many articles over the next few months that will suggest PK is going to one team or another.
