QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 12:36 AM) Like I said, there will be an increase in payroll. We've agreed to disagree on this. Don't think this last week of awful attendance didn't give JR every excuse possible to not raise payroll this offseason.

If we don't make the playoffs, you're not going to see an increase in payroll.
  3. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 12:29 AM) Told most of you guys that we shouldn't be making stupidass elimination threads, especially prematurely. Now it's going to look so f***ing stupid. Respect all teams until they're mathematically out of it. Something lots of Sox fans on here didn't do. You're preaching to the choir on this one. I've been laughed at all season cause I said the Sox hadn't clinched anything yet.
  4. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 12:28 AM) Cleveland has 67 less stolen bases then we have. How the hell are they scoring runs without that balance that the Sox have? Hawk tells me we have a lot of balance. Isn't balance good? Because they have an extremely productive leadoff hitter, hit a ton of doubles and triples, and have depth up and down their lineup. It must be nice to have a leadoff hitter that can actually produce runs, a manager that doesn't play for one run in the first inning of a game, and a team that has the ability to comeback from a deficit.
  5. Isn't it amazing what a team that senses they're in a pennant race can do for their energy?
  6. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 12:20 AM) No. Thomas Jones is mediocre, and no team will win anything with him at RB, unless Peyton Manning is behind center. Having Mike Williams today would have meant nothing. If we're talking about players that the only way their team would win anything is because of them, then there's only one skill position player, Moose, that would start for a Super Bowl team. If Thomas Jones is mediocre, I don't want to know what Justin Gage is. Jerry Angelo better be fired after this season. To draft a RB after making Jones your key FA signing in ridiculous.
  7. Indians are up 4-0 in the first. ICEBERG, STRAIGHT AHEAD!
  8. 2-0 Indians are winning. There's absolutely no comparison between the White Sox and Indians right now. Get this....the Indians actually look like they're having fun on the field.
  9. Sizemore with a leadoff triple to start the bottom of the 1st. That's one more triple than Pods has had all season. Crisp than doubles on the next pitch, and Indians lead 1-0. WE'RE f***ED!

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 12:17 AM) If I were to trade for a 3rd baseman, I'd take a chance and talk to Seattle about taking on Beltre and the remainder of his contract. I don't know if Seattle wants to shift their focus from two big boppers or not (it would be early for them to give up on it). However, Beltre is a really good offensive player and a stud defensive player as well. He's the person that I keep thinking would really be a good fit. However, there's a lot of money involved with him, and I'm not so sure the Mariners would give up on him. Would they consider trading him and a lot of money for Iguchi? It's easier to find a quality 2nd baseman than it is a stud 3b.
  11. Helton's not an option. He has a mammoth contract, and the Rockies have said they won't pick up any money in any Helton deal.
  12. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 11, 2005 -> 11:16 PM) Yeah, 'cause having Mike Williams on the field today really would've ensured us a victory. I mean, Thomas Jones is probably one of the best halfbacks in the league, right? :rolly GMAB. I can see you ripping on the decision to draft Benson rather then Cadillac, but Jones isn't an elite back. We need an elite back to win. I fully expect to see a lot more carries -- ten plus -- from Benson next week. Thomas Jones is a lot more productive at his position than any 2nd WR the Bears have. Any RB in the Bears system is going to produce about the same. As long as the opposition can stuff the box, no RB on this planet will have extremely productive games.

Well, the Cubs are now 5.5 games back in the Wild Card, so they'll be the major focus of the Chicago media the rest of the way.

This piggyback idea is absolutely stupid. Why change things now? If Duque is no longer good enough to start a game and not just implode after a certain number of pitches, then he shouldn't be starting!
  15. fathom replied to kapkomet's topic in Pale Hose Talk
According to another post, Ozzie said Duque will make his next start.
  16. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 11, 2005 -> 10:01 PM) OZZIE JUST SAID HE IS GOING TO GO TO MIAMI TOMORROW ON THE OFFDAY BECAUSE HE NEEDS A DAY OFF FROM THE CITY OF CHICAGO. NICE QUOTE OZZIE IN THE POST GAME NEWS CONFERENCE Nice quote Dusty. It's fine, we get the day off tomorrow from his horses*** decision making and collapsing team.
  17. I got excited when I saw Guillen and fired in the same sentence! If we did give up on Marte, that's a terrible move. Talk about blowing any trade value he might have had.
  18. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 11, 2005 -> 09:42 PM) Why wait? Wouldn't you rather whine now and get everybody's attention? I've been told basically all season to quit my whining, because this was a team of destiny with the best record in baseball. My concerns all season (in-game managing, lack of offense, overachieving starting pitching) are the same concerns I still have. I never would have imagined the Indians playing at such an amazing rate though.
  19. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 11, 2005 -> 09:41 PM) Yeah who gives a rat's ass about the facts if they don't favor your argument? Do any of you actually expect Cleveland to keep winning? As s***ty as our team has been these past few weeks, Cleveland is winning the same games (4 game sweep of Detroit, winning 2 from the Twins.) Our last 3 games of the season are against the Indians so I really don't see them catching us by the end of the month. Yes, I expect the Indians to keep winning at an extremely high rate. They have an extremely talented team, with a dynamic offense, very good starting pitching, and a great bullpen. Guys like Martinez, Perralta, Boone and Blake have completely turned their seasons around, and C.C., Lee, Millwood and W'Brook have been better since the ASB than our top 4 pitchers have been. The Indians also have all the confidence in the world that they can comeback from huge deficits. The Sox, on the other hand, can't comeback from more than a one run deficit in nearly 50 games.
  20. QUOTE(rudylaw @ Sep 11, 2005 -> 09:38 PM) If we did not sweep the tribe right after the all-star game we would be sooooo f*cked We did though, so big deal.
  21. QUOTE(JimH @ Sep 11, 2005 -> 09:37 PM) The White Sox site says Marte is unavailable for this entire series. A combination of a bad neck, plus confidence issues. So all he's got is Cotts and Sanders. So maybe he is in fact thinking about what pitchers he can use today. So it sounds like Marte has loser's limp. He probably hurt his neck turning around to see that blast that Emil Brown hit off of him. I have a feeling we've seen the last of Marte in a Sox jersey.
  22. BTW, someone in another post is reporting Ozzie kicked Marte off the team today. Can we please fire Ozzie and his ego?
  23. Wow, that would be something. I've been saying this for a month now, but we're seeing a full organizational collapse.
  24. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 11, 2005 -> 09:33 PM) :headshake What's Cleveland's record against us this year? Who gives a s***. It's been a tale of two halves for the Sox and Indians this year. We're not the same team we were earlier in the year, and they most definitely aren't.
  25. See, this is what pisses the living s*** out of me. Today's the type of game where Marte should be pitching and trying to get confidence. Rather, Ozzie's wasting our only reliable lefty in mop-up duty. Of course, that would require some actual thinking by Ozzie.
