  1. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 01:08 PM) Carpenter has a lot of wins. I was thinking Bud Selig. And yes, Carpenter deserves Cy Young this season.
  2. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 12:27 PM) On the NL side, I hope the voters recognize that in 7 of Clemen's starts the team was shut out. Zero runs in 7 starts. He should be the clear front runner for the Cy Young, but his record will probably knock him out. I'm thinking that someone else will probably knock him out.
  3. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 03:32 AM) Like I said earlier, the logic is that it forces the Sox to stay sharp. Remember how in 2000 the Sox ran out to a huge lead then were flat as could be in the second half and cruised into the playoffs and got swept cause they weren't sharp? Thats what Im afraid is happening now, the parallels are too strong to ignore. One big difference between 2000 and this season in regards to a team chasing the Sox is that the Twins have all the confidence in the world when they face the Sox. Also, the 2000 team was clearly better than any team in their division. I'm not so sure the Sox are clearly better than the Indians and Twins this season.
  4. Well, Twins are on the verge of winning another game. They just seem to dominate teams the last 50 games of the season or so. I can't believe that anyone could have ever said they'd like to see the Twins stay close to the Sox.
  5. Why's everyone guessing who it might be? It's obvious that the rumors are all centered around Clemens and Damon. There's no reason for people to be guessing it's other players, just because they're all-stars, etc. How much you want to bet that some people could say it's certain White Sox players? You know, we do have an all-star of our own who hit double-digit homers last season, and doesn't have one this year! Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Pods is on the juice. However, this whole thing has become a witch hunt. I'll believe the Clemens/Damon thing when it's announced by MLB.
  6. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 10:17 PM) I really like Roger Clemens, but in some sick way I want these rumors to be true about Damon and Clemens. I don't want these rumors to be true about Clemens at all. The Astros have been very good to Sox fans/Cubs haters like myself, especially last year. The Astros need Clemens in order to stay in front of the Cubs this season. I don't care if people dislike the fact I hate the Cubs....but I do!

Looks like I have an apprentice. I've been saying this for nearly a month, since the time where more people were concerned about facing the A's in the playoffs or making sure we rest guys like Pods and Hermanson. 10.5 is not a guaranteed lead, and there's no guarantee we play even .500 baseball the rest of the way. Enough with the excuses by everyone, we just need to win some f***ing games!
  8. The problem I have is when people go "it's only a 5 game skid, better to have happened now than later". The thing is, there's no guarantee this is only a 5 game skid. It's not like we're playing well, but just aren't getting the breaks. We've looked like s*** for quite a while, and it's finally catching up to us.
  9. Considering the price it would cost to get Guardado, and the fact that if you don't score, you don't need a closer.....I'm totally against trading for him.
  10. QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 02:55 PM) Yeah. Actually they said it yesterday after the game on AM1000. They also had Mark Buehrle quotes after the game where he said the guys are just not having fun. I've been saying that for a week or so. This team has been playing way too tight, and playing not to lose.
  11. PK was sticking up for his team, trying to be the team leader. The whole Griffey Jr. thing really got out of hand, and you're foolish to think these players weren't caught up in it also. As much as I disagree with what PK said, I totally respect him for saying it.
  12. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 02:36 PM) So another Pauly comment that's probably been blown out of proportion or something. Well it really wouldn't suprise me if he ran off to the Mets this off-season. I'm thinking Red Sox.
  13. Bill Mueller would be a huge upgrade over Crede. Mueller is a very consistent hitter who can be counted on to put together good ABs. There's not much of a difference in their defense either.
  14. Ozzie needs to do what about 20 other players in that locker room need to do: pick their games up.
  15. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 07:43 AM) I'm at a loss of words to describe the above statement. Wow. What I mean is that I don't care how they make it, as long as they make it, that's good enough for me. You can lose 30 in a row, but once that first game of the playoffs starts, you're 0-0 that season. It's a hell of a lot better to tank down the stretch and make it than it is to win your last 30 games, and not makeit.
  16. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 05:08 AM) I couldn't be more pumped to have a full day of packing and no white sox game tomorrow. At this point, a day without a white sox game is a good day. Also, being 11 up doesn't mean s*** at this point. We all know they're winning the division, but that means NOTHING if you don't make noise in the playoffs. How about we concern ourselves with best record in AL for home field advantage, and just playing good baseball? Saying we're 11 up lends to the thought that people would be happy if we won the division by one game. If we make the playoffs, I'm happy....END OF STORY!
  17. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 05:07 AM) I thought this offense would be bad this year, but not this bad. When we lost Thomas and Maggs last year we still hit .262 in August. We hit like crap in July and that was to be expected with the two losses. But they bounced back. And that was with marching Timo and Borchard out in RF. We didnt pitch well in August and had the 5th starter disaster. Last year before Maggs and Thomas went out we hit in the 280s. I thought Uribe and Rowand were going to be much better this year.
  18. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 05:02 AM) If i had to bet my life on one guy, i'd bet him. He has used em, just look at the guy, i've always suspected he was on roids. Can't make a call on the AL guy though The supposed NL guy is Clemens, no doubt about it.
  19. QUOTE(SnB @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 04:46 AM) a week ago, i would have argued this statement. all hail fathom Trust me, I wish what I had said about this wasn't looking dead on. I would have much rather been completely off. I just hated the attitude I was sensing from the whole organization. Ozzie's comments in tomorrow's Tribune about the game piss me off also. The fact he says he juggled his lineup because some people need at-bats is ridiculous. Our benchers get more playing time than any other benchers in baseball. We need to play guys that will help us win, especially in a series against the Twins. The Twins have all the confidence in the world against us now.
  20. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 04:14 AM) Don't think it's Clemens because he gave a hint that really limits this thing to five or six teams. He said that this team would be assured of a playoff birth if the season ended today. He was clearly talking about Clemens and Damon. The Clemens rumor is all over the Internet now. I have a feeling it's a bunch of BS though, and just a rumor that's being spread by people trying to break a story. BTW, I can't wait to read what Bill Simmons says about the whole thing if these two guys get busted. He hates Clemens with a passion, and he loves J. Damon.
  21. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 04:41 AM) They believe that they are just the best team on paper and that they'll be fine during playoff time. I don't like the stuff i'm hearing at all. Bingo! Way too much talk about resting players for the playoffs, planning the playoff rotation, and other goodies like that. We just have to go out and win games. I don't give a f*** if Ozzie wants the most wins in baseball. Rather, Ozzie should just focus on getting his players ready each game, and putting his team in the best chance to succeed as possible. You can't ask for anything more than that chance from your manager. And BTW Ozzie, it's not a crime to pull a pitcher after 6 innings if the game is pretty much a sure loss.

QUOTE(WSFAN35 @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 04:33 AM) There's alot of people here that don't deserve this team. I didn't know that we have to pay a fee to be a fan of the team? Just because some of us are loyal optimists with the team, it doesn't make us better or worse fans than anyone else. And I don't see how anyone could think this is just a minor slump. We've looked like s*** for a while now, and we suck at home.
  23. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 04:34 AM) Konerko: "we're going to go down swinging with the guys we have" Maybe the sox just don't get it...the objective is to not go down swinging, it's to win the f***ing thing. I just can't stand the attitude I'm sensing from the White Sox right now. I've never seen a team just assume so much with plenty of meaningful games left in the season. Oh well, we just have to win some games.

QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 03:50 AM) Now I'm "sipping the kool aid" because I'm confident that the best team in baseball since April will come out of a slump that has taken place while one of the teams most important players who produces a great deal of runs has been on the DL? Pods produces a lot of runs? PK has 10 more runs scored this season, and Pods still has less than 20 RBI this year. If anyone really thinks our offense has completely tanked because Pods is out, they obviously haven't been watching the last few months. The bottom of our order is just brutal, and now that Dye sucks again, we're missing our 2nd best power guy.

QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 03:28 AM) It's only a 5 game losing streak. I'm sure every team has had one this season. It's not the end of the world, it's just a slump. Well, yesterday we were saying that about a 4 game losing streak. How long does this have to go on before a sense of urgency is shown?
