  1. QUOTE(ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 04:32 PM) As much as it'd be great to have Griffey here, with his injurt history taken into account, I'm really hesitant to give up Chris Young as part of the deal. We have plenty of OF depth in our organization. Also, the OF position is probably the easiest in baseball to fill via free agency. There's no guarantee that Young will even make it to the majors. Griffey would help this team more this season and likely the next few seasons at the MLB level!
  2. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 04:22 PM) So is 22 in a row, and 17 in a row at 3rd. No, I know. I was just saying that for someone with the ability to steal 22 in a row, going 4 for 12 on the bases is almost an unbelievable stat. Pods is a much better base runner than that, and I think it's mostly mental with him now. I'm much more concerned with his approach at the plate than I am his base running. You have to reach base in order to be a threat on the bases.
  3. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 04:07 PM) Geez, the guy goes 4/12 for a stretch, and all the sudden he cant steal anymore. He did steal 22 in a row at one time. 4 for 12, in such a short stretch, is almost unheard of in terms of stealing bases.
  4. QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 03:59 PM) I have just read the first few posts but the thread is already a classic: I think we have some "sister" fans in Cincinnati! I'll never forget those games at the end of the season when Kearns and Valentin helped beat the Cubs in extra innings at Wrigley. I know it's not cool on this board to say you hate the Cubs.....but I HATE THE f***ING CUBS!
  5. QUOTE(mwolfson @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 03:44 PM) Trade: • RHP Orlando Hernandez, SS Juan Uribe, RHP prospect Jeff Bajenaru and OF prospect Jerry Owens to the Texas Rangers for SS Michael Young and a prospect to be named later Now, do you really think that the Rangers would do this trade? I'm not sure they'd give up Young for McCarthy and Chris Young.
  6. QUOTE(ceffa2000 @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 04:33 AM) White Sox Probable Pitchers Hopefully Duke's okay. Maybe his shoulder is hurting again. Sweet. Man, if McCarthy has to pitch at Fenway, he's going to be in for a long day. This is not the time in the schedule to have an injury in the rotation.
  7. QUOTE(SnB @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 03:44 PM) I'm aiming a little bit lower and hoping to work for the minor league team right by my house, "The windy city thunderbolts" for next summer Judging from previous history with a family member working for that organization, I'd pass on that opportunity.
  8. Not sure how accurate this is, but J. Hood said on the score before that the White Sox have listed their stating pitcher as TBA for Sunday's game. Has anyone heard something about this?
  9. Thanks to the Royals for all their help this week! What a f***ing joke. Indians have now won 10 of their last 12 games. It would be nice if Tampa and KC didn't bend over for them in the next week.
  10. When he says the thing about the teams needing to make a deal, I think he meant that it's not up to him. Instead of meaning they MUST make a deal (like he wanted the trade to happen), Griffey Jr. meant that it was up to the Reds and Sox to get a trade done, and then propose it to him.
  11. If a team makes a claim on Griffey Jr., they better be sure they can handle his contract. What's to stop the Reds from just saying "fine, you take him, and we won't have to pay another cent of his contract"? Just as the Padres got stuck with Randy Myers ridiculous contract, the Reds could possibly jump at the chance at getting out of Griffey's contract without a scratch. I know everyone thinks such and such team will try to block the trade.....but this isn't a one year contract that expires at the end of the season we're dealing with.
  12. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 03:21 AM) Why are you not interning with the Sox or the Angels?? BTW, does anyone on here work for the Sox? I was told by my grad school professors that they had students who had awful experiences working/internships with the White Sox.
  13. QUOTE(3E8 @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 12:08 AM) I enjoy working much more than I enjoy school. Man, I would do anything to have college hours again. The daily routine of work becomes such a grind, that it really makes me miss the laid-back schedule that is college.
  14. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 05:50 AM) Something tells me this may be the ONLY place where it seems like its getting interesting. After reviewing everything that's been said recently, I think there's a better chance of this trade happening than I did right after the initial rumor broke about a week ago. Griffey Jr. isn't completely ruling out the trade, which is definitely a chance in his mind since last week. Also, the Sox offense hasn't exactly been stellar since KW was initially in trade talks with the Reds. Put it this way: I have a feeling either Griffey Jr. or D. Young will be in the starting lineup on Tuesday against the Twins for the White Sox next week.
  15. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 12:45 AM) White Sox have a ginormous lead on their division and just won a series in NY. I know. I'm just saying it would be nice if they lost a game or two this month. I'm getting a little annoyed with them coming back down 5 every game.
  16. Sizemore hits a slam in the 2nd inning to give the Indians a 4-0 lead.
  17. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 07:28 PM) Work him as hard as possible. At this point we just have to hope the pitchers can go without giving up another run for 2 innings until Rivera leaves. Not to start a fight, but this is why I told you the Yankees bullpen is one of the better ones. I don't care what the ERA is of their mop-up guys. Gordon and Rivera are an outstanding combo at the end of the game.
  18. One thing I didn't like seeing in this lineup today is both Iguchi and AJP sitting. It's fine resting them, but we needed to have at least 2 of our 3 best hitters in the lineup every game (along with PK). I'm not so sure resting 2 of our hottest hitters for the same game was a great idea with how our offense is slumping.
  19. Hey guys, stuck at work and can't watch the game. Just wanted to thank everyone for their updates in the gamethread. Looks like another game where our 8-9-1 just can't produce? Lets find a way to win this game, and give KW an off day to come up with a solution to our offensive problems.
  20. The only thing Ozuna can provide out of the 2nd spot is the ability to hit-and-run if Pods gets on base. Besides that, he's a routine grounder to 2nd base waiting to happen.
  21. QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 04:37 AM) Hey if we can still get something for him in the offseason I say trade him, theres no reason to lose him through waivers. Someone is going to claim him if hes put through waivers. Besides, bringing him up and him doing horribly would reduce his trade value. His trade value can't get much lower than it has been. Calling him up and Borchard playing well could increase his value....but he's not considered much of a great prospect anymore.
  22. QUOTE(GBlum27 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 03:00 AM) KC gives up 6 in the 9th, including a dropped 2 out flyball. Was it just a routine flyball that was dropped? I'm not liking this Indians team that will comeback no matter what the score is.
  23. Indians just scored 5 in the 9th to tie the game against KC. KC defense is making all sorts of errors.
  24. Can I expect to see articles in every Chicago paper with Ozzie saying Contreras can start a playoff game now?
