  1. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 02:20 AM) Ok well let's compare El Duque to some other pitchers who got bigger deals this off-season. Jaret Wright: 2-2, 9.15 ERA, 13 K's, 9 BB's Russ Ortiz: 4-5, 5.45 ERA, 32 K's, 41 BB's Odalis Perez: 4-4, 4.50 ERA, 32 K's, 10 BB's Eric Milton: 3-8, 7.97 ERA, 44 K's, 23 BB's Jon Lieber: 8-4, 4.61 ERA, 47 K's, 19 BB's The only guy that was an option when we signed Duque was Milton, and that was never going to happen. Besides the win total (which has more to do with the Sox than Duque this year), his numbers are pretty much on par with the mediocre numbers you posted. Good job with the stats though, they come in handy for these friendly disagreements
  2. Anyone notice how every out against Shingo seems to be a "loud" out? Last night, nearly every ball was hit to the track against him. We need bullpen help, and pronto. It's ridiculous that we don't have a long man, and we're going to need another lefty.
  3. QUOTE(whitesox91403 @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 02:29 AM) 2003 was a fluke, he's not that good. Couldn't disagree with you more. Marte was easily one of the best lefty relievers in baseball for the past three seasons. Even in his so-called down years, he was way above average.
  4. Might as well put Marte back on the DL after tonight. Something is obviously not right with him.
  5. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 02:16 AM) Thanks for letting us know he's done. Just calling it like I see it. Of course, just cause I say something, that doesn't make it right. For the record, I was saying how awful Duque looked this season well before he started giving up 4-6 runs every outing. It was just a matter of time for his terrible WHIP to catch up to him.
  6. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 02:07 AM) So I ask again. Who should we have signed instead for $8 million over 2 years? B-Mac is not ready, he's still giving up homers at an alarming rate down at Charlotte. Trust me, I don't want Brandon "Ruffcorn" McCarthy called up anytime soon. I don't recall which pitchers were available when we signed Duque....but no one outside of the Sox PR machine thought it was a good move. With his age, arm injuries, and flyball tendencies, he was a disaster waiting to happen at the Cell. For that reason, I'm content with what he's given us so far. However, I don't see anyway that we can expect Duque to turn it around the rest of the season. He got unbelievably lucky at the beginning of the season getting out of the jams he did. It was just a matter of time for him to start giving up a lot of crooked numbers.
  7. QUOTE(quickman @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 02:07 AM) you know I think we are ready for a trade to add a jolt to the club. Its time. But...but...but....we have the best record in baseball. We're going to need new guys to pick it up, because a lot of the players that were carrying us earlier in the season are struggling. Iguchi's batting average has been slowly fading for a month now, and Contreras and Hermanson have struggled recently. Uribe looks to be coming out of his slump, which will help.
  8. QUOTE(quickman @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 02:06 AM) Yea saw that. I'm still not sure why Omar didn't just throw that ball in the hole to the 3rd baseman in order to get the out. Instead, he tried to make the fancy jump throw to 2nd base. I guess you don't become the most overrated fielder in baseball history by making the smart choice (dont tell Hawk that though, he wants to have Omar's baby).
  9. QUOTE(rangercal @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 02:03 AM) I say anthrax will be in this thread within 24 hrs bashing kw for signing el duque. I didn't like the Duque signing, and still dont. I'm just happy though that we got a solid 1/3 of the season out of him. It's more of a contribution that I figured we'd get from him.
  10. Everett joining the ranks of AJP, PK, and Crede with the bat throw after a weak pop up.
  11. QUOTE(whitesoxjr27 @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 02:03 AM) who is pitching for the dbacks on wed? we have a chance? Russ Ortiz. He has control issues, but with the Sox hitters, that usually doesn't mean much.
  12. QUOTE(quickman @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 01:58 AM) personally this is game I would like to see if marte is healthy. He has not pitched in a while, and we are out of this game. Put him in there for a couple of batters. Definitely
  13. QUOTE(bschmaranz @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 01:58 AM) Not quite understanding this one. You're talking about getting rid of a pitcher who is 7-1. Get your head on straight. Look past the record, and realize how bad he's looked in the past month or so. I'm not saying get rid of him after tonight. I'm more just anticipating what needs to happen if Duque continues to look like he has nothing left. I'd give Duque 3 more starts to get it turned around. If he still continues to struggle, you might have to consider placing him on the DL again to try and rest his arm.
  14. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 01:55 AM) It's not going to happen. So we keep marching out Duque even if he continues to struggle?
  15. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 01:54 AM) I'm not saying that I like that it's playing like a hitter's park, I was just surprised for the first two months that it was playing (for the most park) like a pitcher's park. Yeah, I agree. It was playing like a normal park for the majority of the beginning of the season. However, tonight's an example of how the ball just flies out of here. We'll see how successful "Ozzieball" is when everyone is trying to hit homers.
  16. We need a long man in the bullpen. Viz pitched a lot last night, and with all the lefties up this inning for DBacks, not a clue in the world why he was left in this inning.
  17. QUOTE(quickman @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 01:50 AM) stop it he is not pujols, He is a 250 hitter. thats it. done. quickman....you know I'm not that stupid to think of Crede as being in the same planet as Pujols. It was just a joke. Crede and 3rd baseman is not the position that I'm worried about with the Sox now. 5th starter and righty reliever seems like it might be a serious problem for the rest of the year.
  18. QUOTE(Yoda @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 01:48 AM) It was very smart of KW to sign Hernandez to two years. Live with it... So if Duque's ERA continues to climb into the mid 5s.....we're supposed to "live with it" because our GM gave a two year deal to someone with a history of arm problems and was alive when dinosaurs ruled the earth (sorry Carl Everett). El Duque isn't as bad as our 5th starters were last year, but his last month or so of pitching has resembled last year's debacle way too much.
  19. Twins down 3-2 in the 6th after a sac fly.
  20. QUOTE(quickman @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 01:48 AM) He is streaky, he could go into a 3-40 slump starting tonight. So could Albert Pujols. I'm not going to b**** about Crede when he's actually producing at the plate now.
  21. QUOTE(quickman @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 01:43 AM) When did Crede get Better? When he's been batting over .300 with 4 homers this month. Also, his defense has been outstanding. I'm not a fan of Crede, but he's the least of our problems right now.
  22. With Duque's ERA nearing the magical 5 mark (4.88), and his WHIP exceeding 1.60, I personally believe that we're going to need a 5th starter added to this team in order to make the playoffs. Given Duque's past medical histories also, I'm not very confident in counting on him to have a strong second half this year. The big problem is that there aren't a lot of pitchers on the market right now.
  23. Duque's ERA is now up to 4.88. With Viz and Crede looking better, I'm of the opinion now that starting pitcher is our biggest priority to trade for.
  24. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 01:39 AM) Sheesh, the ball is just flying out of the yard tonight. The ball that Green hit just flew out of there, easy. 'Bout time US Cellular started playing like a hitters park... I liked our chances much better when the park played bigger.
  25. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 01:38 AM) The bullpen has to hold em to 6- thats all. We have 4 innings to score 4 runs for the win. I'm not giving up yet. Its kind of crazy- when Contreras sucks- El-duque sucks, when Contreras pitches well- El-duque pitches well. Are they attached to the hip? Maybe Ozzie should stick with what's worked, and have AJP catch Contreras, and Widger catch for Duque. AJP and Duque never seem to work well together, while we all know the numbers of Contreras with each catcher.
