  1. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 01:32 AM) Count pitching like Freddy huh? Booyah Actually, Contreras has had a solid fastball tonight. He just hasn't been able to control his forkball, and thus the Twins hitters are sitting on the heater. Garcia just had nothing yesterday on his pitches.
  2. QUOTE(RegionSox @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 01:31 AM) What did Iguchi do? Wasn't it Uribe that missed the bag? You have to make sure you get one out in that situation. It was too close to risk it, in my opinion. Great pitch by Contreras there though!
  3. Cotts should be warming up to face Jones. I don't like Cotts, but you have to use who you have in your bullpen. If you're not comfortable enough to bring someone in for a lefty in the 5th inning, he shouldn't be on your roster.
  4. Iguchi's defense/decision making is killing us tonight.
  5. Anyone else notice how much Dye is jumping at the pitch? He'll likely get the day off tomorrow with Timo facing Radke.
  6. Iguchi is swinging the bat better after his terrible Friday and Saturday games.
  7. Good inning by Contreras. Thought for sure Stewart's ball was gone.
  8. QUOTE(rudylaw @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 01:09 AM) It's smartball not small ball :puke It's called having easy outs in the lineup. Way too many hitters on our team don't work the pitcher and look to go the opposite way for easy hits, etc. Thank god we're 8-4, because our offense surely doesn't deserve it.
  9. Our offense is absolutely terrible now. One hit through the first 9 batters without a walk is pathetic. We're not even hitting the ball hard at all either.
  10. Good AB by Crede spoiled by a terrible uppercut swing on a good pitch to hit. Crede's looked better lately, but he really has to level his swing out.
  11. A few more games like this from Dye, I might have to admit that playing Everett in the field is the better option for this team when Frank gets back.
  12. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 12:47 AM) For the record, the Yankees are picking up a good portion of the salary if I recall correctly as part of the Loaiza deal. False. We're paying Contreras at least 7 million dollars this season. KW took a huge financial risk in trading for him last year.
  13. QUOTE(Brian @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 12:43 AM) Guess you missed the first inning when he got ahead of hitters with his fastball than pretty much threw splitters to walk guys after having em 0-2? He hasn't thrown a single fastball past a Twins player tonight. Contreras gets about 90 pct of his strikeouts on the splitter.
  14. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 12:42 AM) 48 pitches, he'll be lucky to last 5. I'll be happy if Contreras is still pitching in the 5th inning.
  15. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 12:42 AM) Stupid play throwing home on that. Our outfielders throwing this season has been beyond terrible so far. No one mentioned it, but Timo throwing home in the 9th inning of the first Seattle game was one of the most idiotic things I've seen in a long time. If the runners were paying attention, they both could have advanced an extra base.
  16. Someone tell Contreras he's in the majors because of his splitter, and not his fastball that has no movement at all. He's now given up 2 hits to batters with 2 strikes because he put a nice 93 mph fastball right down the plate.
  17. Contreras hits leadoff batter on a 1-2 count. I hope Ozzie has someone in the pen on short notice.
  18. I know it's been said before, but those scout seats behind home are a terrible idea. They're never full, and looks really bad on tv.
  19. Huge play! Very nice turn by Crede and Tad.
  20. Our 7 million dollar a year pitcher is just as much of a threat to not get out of the first inning as he is to get into the 7th inning. I would have liked to have had the rotation set so that Contreras faced the Mariners yesterday, and Garcia face the Twins today.
  21. Contreras is overthrowing all of his pitches. Lecroy had two great pitches to hit, but took both.
  22. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 07:04 PM) Stuff happens. I'm not saying he'll be a good defensive lf, but it's the least demanding position, he'll be adequate. If Dye continues to struggle, then that's Kenny Williams fault, and he's going to have to find another option. Carl Everett is not an option to play RF. Dye made one mistake in the outfield in 11 games this season. Everett looked terrible in one inning in the outfield. There's absolutely no comparison between their defensive ability, and I'll bet by the time Thomas comes back, there won't be a difference between Everett and Dye's offensive production. We've faced very few lefties so far this season, which really helps Everett since he's terrible facing lhp. One thing I'm sure of is that we need another right handed hitting outfielder off the bench who can drive the ball. I've been saying this for a week now. Ozuna is a nice story, but I don't think he's a major league hitter.
  23. QUOTE(ISF @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 06:09 PM) If running into the wall making a play makes you a bad outfielder, I must wonder why an outfielder as crappy as Rowand is playing CF for us. Dye is no longer the fleet of foot guy he used to be. Everett covers as much ground. He's fearless out there, like Rowand. Probably doesn't have as good an instinct as Dye on getting jumps, but this is a guy who was playing CF for Texas a few years ago. He can hold his own out there just fine. When Everett played centerfield, I remember hearing about how experts had never seen a player turn more routine singles into triples due to terrible range and instincts. Everett has absolutely no range in the outfield...he even helped us win a game in Montreal last year when he was in the outfield for the Expos. I like Everett as a hitter, but he should never play the outfield again. He makes Timo look like a gold-glover out there.
  24. I can't believe anyone would suggest putting Everett in the outfielder. He might be the worst defensive outfielder in the last 10 years. We knew when Everett picked up his option that it was likely we were going to be stuck with a 4 million dollar bench player. The difference between Dye and Everett's offensive ability is nowhere near the difference between their defensive ability. It took Everett less than one inning to not only hurt himself in the field, but to play a huge factor in blowing the game for the Sox.
