Dunning to meet with Andrews Monday.

Think I saw he throws 95 but I agree doesn't seem to make sense. Maybe look at for a week until better options are put out there.

It is a typical long one. It feels like forever because we never committed to the rebuild until a couple years ago. Spending money on aging vets does improve the current product but hurts your draft thus prolonging the rebuild. It would take us back to the late Kenny years of 70 some wins. IE limbo. Nothing is guaranteed so this may not work but we know limbo doesn't work. We should take this money and do everything we can to build up internationally and in our current minor leagues. Hell rival the Yankees under George where everything was "the best". Be so good structurally you become desirable as a location. It won't happen but I wish it would. Ive posted in the past on restructuring the minors from education, nutrition, sports science to coaching.

The total lack of command/control with everything doesn't profile to anything if he doesn't get it back. Bullpeners are often the two pitch pitchers who can't develop a third pitch. The inability to throw a strike is career threatening. I really hope he gets it back cause he was looking really really good at one time.

I am not sure it is Jay's fault we offered him the most money. He did what Machado did, he took the most money.

Not very impressive when looked at. About the only assets you could have moved were an injured Rodon for pennies on the dollar and Abreu who is fulfilling the "mentor" role. As you stated there were some deadline deals that aren't included. We are now moving towards a bit of a 40 man crunch so I would anticipate some 2 for 1 trades and or trades for guys much further away. Looking back, not signing a ton of players in Roberts year really hurt. If you look at the Padres top 30 at least 15 are international signings (several signed by others and acquired in trade).

I wonder if the fact the agent gets a percentage off of the gross not net that an agent might steer to what is better for the agent. Wonder if the agent lives in a no state income tax state if he avoids the hit or is it tied to where the player is located?

I was under the impression he failed for Erythropoietin not epitestosterone. Erythropoietin increases the number of red blood cells. Used more by bikers and others in endurance activities to carry more oxygen to the muscle tissues and remove CO2.

I wonder if a deal might be struck at three $ wise to get some harder signs later if no one clearly is exciting at three?
-
This is gonna be another long year.

Do I get a cookie or an upvote for predicting a tie pregame?
-
I expect the spring training tie game. LOL

Fulmer: An awesome deep dive on his driveline winter

At this point, I think most people think anything we get from him is a bonus. Hopefully, he rebounds. It would be nice to have some pleasant developments. -
Are you my friend Manny? Good! Good! How bout a Fresca hmmmm?

Jose Quintana

Not a surprise but Collins removed from catcher top ten. Madrigal in second base group at number three. Among rhp, Kopech 3 and Cease 5.

If he goes to San Diego, what could we get trading Jay or Alonso to them? LOL

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's 70 percent top tax rate makes sense - Vox https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2019/.../alexandria-ocasio-cortez-70-percent Income tax rates were 90 percent under Eisenhower, Sanders says ... https://www.politifact.com/.../income-tax-rates-were-90-percent-under-eisenhower-/ Yes they are talking marginal rates like over ten million. Again, not trying to be political and not saying good or bad, but as an agent if I could construct a contract to protect my client from something like this I should look into it shouldn't I? It might take a couple years but this is what some want. I would try to protect my client from as many scenarios as I could.

I wonder if you can have a yearly player option on having a portion of your salary deferred? In the above situation a stipulation of 30 or 10 with 20 deferred payable at 7 per for three years after contract ends. Would give the player some tax options. Shouldn't matter in first couple years so maybe a player would want a really front loaded contract? Think about it a player/agent probably would prefer front loaded.

If they were correct and were the only game in town, what should they have done? Continue to bid against themselves?

At 463 pages its time to introduce a new concept into the discussion. The new tax proposals being floated by a variety of announced candidates propose all kind of new rates on the rich which big time ballplayers will certainly fall into that category. This is not meant to be political but could be why we may see some new types of structures to these mega deals which would take a lot longer to work out. Structuring your contract for tax diversification. Example: May avoid some of the new proposed taxes on super rich which since some talk of 70-90% tax on over 10 million actually makes sense. (not trying to be political but for some of these guys it would make a lot of sense). If Manny gets AAV of 30 to make math easier, 70% tax on over 10 million, 30-10= 20x70%=14 million in tax on just that 20! It would make sense to pay the 20 out over time+/- interest. Maybe 7 million a year x3 years for each year you defer the 20. So 8 yr 240 million would actually be 10 million for 8 years then 7 million for 24 years. If you revert to previous top income tax rates of about 40%, he would save 6 million per year in taxes. If after the 8 years, you move to a state with no state income tax, the savings would be even greater. Also as we all have a great feeling about all politicians, once that on over 10 million tax is in place, you can expect politicians to move it lower and lower cause thats what they do!
-
So 55 in first four with a ten option or 5 buyout = 60 guaranteed or is the five buyout included in the 55? I don't think the deferrals help on luxury tax as that is on AAV. If deferrals obviously helps on cash flow and future value of money.

Interesting but with some of the minor league invites surprised he doesn't get a chance. Wondered also if it might be because a trade might be in the works and they don't expect him with the team?
-
Speaking of Adams, does he have a spring training invite? May indicate thoughts on him.
-
I had hoped we would sign him to an incentive laden deal. This was a bit lower than I expected. Funny guys rarely take that kind of deal from there team as it is often perceived as "disrespectful". Then they end up taking less somewhere else.
